Would a Beautifect Mini be a disappointing birthday present if empty?

Thinking of buying the beautifect mini for a birthday present for D.d. My D.h thinks its expensive for what it is and that it would be shit to just receive it empty so therefore would need to spend more money filling it. What do you think? Dd is really into makeup and already has a styl pro but I thought the beautifect is a bit more grown up and luxury, just thought it was a nice idea for a big birthday. Would it be shit to receive it empty? It cost £150 for the mini one

@LouXx12 Mate, you can find much cheaper and nicer looking beauty organisers online. I wouldn't spend £150 on one, that's ridiculous. (Most of my make up is stored in small sturdy plastic boxes I got from Poundland and they've lasted over 10 years.)

Next have one for £40 (with a light up mirror.) Then you've still got £110 to spend on things to put in it.

I have a full size beautifect. It doesn’t fit all of my essential make up and creams for a week away. It’s also heavy so not ideal for overseas travel. Also whilst the lighting is good, the mirror isn’t great and the magnifying mirror you get to place in the corner slides about unless you get the positioning absolutely right. It looks really posh though (IF you are travelling with people who know the brand)..

Rosecoffeecup · 19/08/2026 12:15

I buy a lot of unnecessary crap but even I wouldnt be that

Have a look at Stackers, they have a lot of nice travel and cosmetic accessories

hdunn1408 · 19/08/2026 12:17

This is LITERALLY the best gift you could give. Mine goes everywhere with me, I love being able to just grab my bag

Edawson · 19/08/2026 12:19

I actually have this set and its so handy for travelling. I don't think giving it empty would be a bad present at all. I use this everywhere, when I travel to work on the train, taking abroad on holidays and to our caravan. The lights and the different settings help massively in being able to see when im putting my make up on and when its dark in winter and i use it while travelling to work I don't look like an orange clown when i look in the bathroom mirror later in the day.

MyNeedyLilacBird · 19/08/2026 12:21

Honestly who is buying this. An absolute rip off- you'd need to be a fool to buy this imo. I love luxury makeup and products etc but this just looks really cheap to me

Sharon1289 · 19/08/2026 12:26

Haha at people thinking it’s a car! I actually have one and use it every day defo recommend it for your girl! Don’t think u need to buy makeup she can put all her own makeup inside, it’s expensive cos of the good lighting oh and the mirrors removable too FYI it’s good quality!

Deadringer · 19/08/2026 12:42

Get her a cheaper one and put in a voucher so she can buy some new make up products.

pointlesstips · 19/08/2026 12:43

LouXx12 · 18/08/2026 23:42

She already has the styl pro pod thing but its massive it looks small online but it's really big. We are just back from holiday and she took all her makeup in a pedal bin liner as the styl pod would have been too big to take with us, so this was just an idea. Obviously not a very good one🙈

In that case, get her a cheaper travel case with mirror from Amazon and spend rest of money on nice make up.

blossomsnow · 19/08/2026 12:47

That seems insanely overpriced for something made of plastic.

I can't see why it's worth more than about £20.

This one looks great! Far more sensibly priced

Glitchymn1 · 19/08/2026 12:52

As long as it can be returned. You know her best, if she loves her make up it sounds like she might enjoy this. It’s mega bucks though!

Would she prefer an Elizabeth Scarlett open flat makeup bag, then you have money left over to fill it.

Seems more like what a 16 year old would love.

These are lovely! (still expensive though but lovely)

PinkCactusPink · 19/08/2026 12:59

I hate it when things are described as "vegan leather", is that not just plastic and you are calling it that to charge a fortune for it?

I don't really "get" why this would be useful to be honest? Would it replace a handbag so you would keep makeup and your handbag bits in it?

HappyImarriedaDarren · 19/08/2026 13:18

Boots do a dupe that looks okay and you could buy her some of her make up to go in it? www.boots.com/sensse-glow-up-vanity-case-with-led-light-mirror-10360548

Superhansrantowindsor · 19/08/2026 13:28

The one from Next posted up thread is lovely. I’d get that and put some good quality product in it or a special perfume.

nomas · 19/08/2026 13:41

I think it's fine to give a beauty box unfilled, the gift is the box and she has her own make up to put into it.

£150 is a lot to spend unless she loves it. Does she had a good dressing table with those celeb style lightbulbs? My nieces love those.

pinkspeakers · 19/08/2026 13:42

It does seem quite expensive, but I think that a beauty case with mirror, light etc is definitely a complete gift and doesn't need filling. You will be a much better judge than us of whether your daughter will appreciate this enough for it to be worth spending £150.

Gengha · 19/08/2026 13:43

The mirror looks no different to one I got off Amazon for about £8

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 18/08/2026 23:10

So it's a plastic make up box bag.

with straps to turn it into a bag.

I would be buying her favourite / usual lipstick, mascara, foundation etc. to put in it.

As you can't give an empty bag, it's like buying someone a purse and not putting a £1 coin in it for luck.

Does your daughter even know about this ' bag ' has she mentioned it ?
or is it something you have happened upon ?

Of course you can give someone an empty purse or bag! I've been given an (empty) purse a few times before. Never heard of putting a coin in!

LouXx12 · 18/08/2026 23:03

I could give her the money but all the family will give her money and I think money is a bit thoughtless. She never really asks for anything and I thought it was nice as she likes her makeup! Shes going to be 16, doesnt want anything, birthday near xmas so also have that

I think it’s really lovely I’d quite like one myself! They are expensive but they’re a nice gift.
You say her birthday is near Christmas? Could you get a nice luxury beauty advent calendar so that when she opens each door she puts the nice bits in the case??

Twoboysanddog · 19/08/2026 17:06

People are missing the point, just because they wouldn't appreciate it, maybe your daughter would. I don't mind spending the money if it will be appreciated, which it seems like she would enjoy using it & recognise the brand for what it is..it's like buying 5 cheap lipsticks or one posh brand, someone might look at the one & think meh that's not a lot but another person will appreciate the brand if that makes sense?

broomstickie · 19/08/2026 17:43

@LouXx12 I have a Beautifect - not the mini - and I would say for anyone who loves doing their make up it's a great gift. Pros are the mirror/lighting are good, the mirror stays in place wherever you are, the charge lasts for ages, it is easy to clean and it's very sturdy. Cons are - the price - obviously and I don't know about the mini but the regular size isn't that big. You could fit an average make up bag's worth of stuff in it and not much more.

If she doesn't need it for travel so much and has a tonne of make up, you might be better off getting her a vanity table with lighted mirror for about the same price.
