Would a Beautifect Mini be a disappointing birthday present if empty?

Thinking of buying the beautifect mini for a birthday present for D.d. My D.h thinks its expensive for what it is and that it would be shit to just receive it empty so therefore would need to spend more money filling it. What do you think? Dd is really into makeup and already has a styl pro but I thought the beautifect is a bit more grown up and luxury, just thought it was a nice idea for a big birthday. Would it be shit to receive it empty? It cost £150 for the mini one

Well now I know it's not a car, I can say my 16 year old daughter would most likely be delighted with this. I would have to chuck in, at least a Dior lip gloss though. And I'd also gift her, say some earrings from Pandora. You say she likes to go coffee shops with her friends. My older daughter loved her coffee shop gift card I slipped in her birthday card.

These are lovely! (still expensive though but lovely)

Yes I agree they are expensive although much better than £150 for plastic.
Op could just buy a separate mirror.

It's a sort of dolls house really, isn't it?

Instead of putting dolls in it, you put make-up in, and play with organising it and arranging it and taking it out again. And play with cleaning it and moving things around and making it look pretty and...

A toy for older girls. £150 on a toy seems fairly normal for these days. No child who wanted a dolls house would be happy with being given a cardboard shoe box with windows and a door cut into it or whatever, just because it would serve the same function.

£150 for a make up case! Just set fire to the £150- it would be less painful 😂.

In all seriousness, I’d get her a dupe of it (I’ve had one years ago) and some spending money. If she likes it, get the legit one for Xmas.

It's made of plastic! That is a ridiculous price

Plastic! It’s vegan leather 😂

What do you think vegan leather is?!

YouHaveAnArse · 19/08/2026 21:31

God that's an ugly bag.

If she doesn't want anything, then don't get her anything

If you feel you have to get something, pick out a nice train case from TK Maxx or somewhere and put the other £135 in an investment account for her for the future.

YouHaveAnArse · 19/08/2026 21:40

"Vegan leather" degrades over time - I had to throw out a very nice Sephora makeup bag because the PU "leather" essentially dissolved on the front. Stupidly I thought that it would last longer than regular leather what with it not having once been alive...

Blankscreen · 19/08/2026 21:47

I also had to Google it. Id giver the money and make the suggestion and if she wants one then get it.

Emperor's new clothes spring to mind

Yes I know it’s plastic. It just makes me laugh.

Not all vegan leather is plastic

Not all vegan leather is plastic

99.9% of it is PVC or PU on fabric. These are both petroleum based plastics. The only other newer options are made from things like mushrooms which I'm not sure would stand up to heavy usage as a makeup bag.

SapphireSeptember · 19/08/2026 23:57

That is lovely! Half the price and made from real leather. 😊

I don't have any fancy make up bags, although I have some glittery plastic ones from Skinny Dip that have lasted ages and are very easy to clean.

I could give her the money but all the family will give her money and I think money is a bit thoughtless. She never really asks for anything and I thought it was nice as she likes her makeup! Shes going to be 16, doesnt want anything, birthday near xmas so also have that

I think it’s lovely gift idea! I would probably put some products in it! If you could afford it the Getaway Edit looks a good gift idea as there’s a bit more to it! Hope she has a lovely birthday!
