I know, I’m going to get a load of YABUs as I love this time with my precious children’ but there are still three weeks left, I’m skint and having to muster the enthusiasm for another day out because the alternative is worse!

Of course YANBU to feel like this. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time.

LadyLooo · 17/08/2026 16:19

I think it was much easier when I was a kid and we all just played out in the street together.

Sure there were some squabbles, but mostly our parents just let us get on with it.

Obviously different now with more traffic and parents not being as keen to let under 12s out of their sight for long.

EtoileLune · 17/08/2026 16:19

2 weeks for us. 2nd sept return date. Sorry you are having a tough time.
I feel like this summer break has been rapid!

BinBagDress · 17/08/2026 16:20

@blackcurrantsuponus when do yours go back? One of mine is back 1st September or the other is back on the 2nd September.

StressedOutPeanut · 17/08/2026 16:24

I've just let mine play out or play on PlayStation with their friends. They are all very happy. Think there's to much pressure to do all these massive days out.
We did a week away and a couple of days out and that's it.

SadiraOfTyr · 17/08/2026 16:25

We only have 2 weeks left. I wish it was longer. I'm dreading having to drag DS out of bed in time for the 7.15am bus and dealing with the stress of an exam year. And dealing with all the bloody after-school activity ferrying.

user1476613140 · 17/08/2026 16:26

Schools went back last Wednesday where I am. Thank f*ck. Was just about losing my sanity!

LadyLooo · 17/08/2026 16:27

Ours go back on the 2nd and 3rd, so just over 2 weeks.

hugasaurus · 17/08/2026 16:29

Back this week here but I would like longer, I don’t feel ready for the routines to start back up again, the getting out of the house in the morning, the extra-curriculars all starting back up. However YANBU to feel however you feel. It can be a long haul!

JohnWickAteMyHamster · 17/08/2026 16:29

Three weeks? Im back teaching next week Wednesday!

Alamint · 17/08/2026 16:30

Mine go back 3rd September. But have been off since 8 July, so we're in the home stretch. I have a decent budget for holidays and days out, but it's still exhausting.

Indenialagain · 17/08/2026 16:40

I can’t wait for the little buggers to go back so I can go to the coast without all the crowds

ToffeePennie · 17/08/2026 16:44

You can feel how you want to feel.
I personally LOATHE term time. It’s such a slog getting my kids to their various schools on time and dressed with the right equipment. I hate the school run with a passion and literally spend all year looking forward to the little bit of peace I have from the horrific teachers I have to deal with at my DS’ primary.

DontBuyAnotherBook · 17/08/2026 16:45

Another three weeks here! 😵 SEN child as well.

gohomeroger1 · 17/08/2026 16:49

Yep Derbyshire here so back 7th Sept. We are going away last week and not looking forward to doing school runs again. My body has got used to 8am lie ins

UniquePinkSwan · 17/08/2026 16:52

Can’t wait until they go back. Sick of screaming children all day long

SummerHols2026 · 17/08/2026 16:52

Mine also go back on 7th 🫣 it’s too long!!!

I’ve resorted to paying for a week of holiday club because I’m losing my sanity. 7 consecutive weeks is just too much whether you love or loathe your kids!

Thisismyfinesthour · 17/08/2026 16:52

Summer holidays are shit for lots of parents who are struggling financially. There is too much pressure to make memories shit.
Most kids want simple stuff like their parents time- that is priceless.

Jaimelefromage · 17/08/2026 16:54

Mine finished on the 10th July and don’t go back until 7th September so 8 long weeks. Im ready to sit in a room in complete silence.

violetblue25 · 17/08/2026 16:57

I can’t wait either. We live in a seaside town and I know it’s great for the economy here, everywhere is fucking heaving. It’s far too hot. People are just wandering aimlessly into the road. Dogs everywhere. Kids screaming everywhere you go.

teen ds is living his best life waking up at 10, eating crap and gaming with his friends. He doesn’t leave the house much and drinks endless fizzy drinks and snacks - it’s not very healthy but he’s old enough to make his own decisions but I’m looking forward to him getting some routine back at college.

Mostly I just want autumnal weather please!

HamSandwichKiller · 17/08/2026 16:58

I feel the same way. We've had our family holiday and now it's just juggling work and kid stuff at the same time, essentially a battle to stop them going blind on screens as there's not enough annual leave to go round. At least we have the bank holiday weekend to look forward to which will be another few days away from constant juggling.

It's not helped by the fact that mine aren't back in school until the 3rd of September. It feels like there's no end in sight.

glowworm82 · 17/08/2026 16:59

Yanbu. We’ve had a holiday and eldest went away with his dad’s family too but now I feel pressure to do days out in the coming weeks and they are somehow harder work. I crave routine and get all discombobulated when we have to make our own fun, plus the juggle of work and childcare too. It’s not fun.

Disturbia81 · 17/08/2026 17:00

We haven’t had any days out yet, why do you need to take them out constantly!?

glowworm82 · 17/08/2026 17:02

What else do you do otherwise? I think social media plays a part too - you see people out doing wholesome hikes or galleries or museums and feel bad. Mine have been swimming, cinema, libraries etc but it doesn’t feel very enriching in comparison with others. I often feel like deleting social media over the summer holidays as it throughly depresses me (I realise this is a me problem and comparison is the thief of joy etc etc).

JustGiveMeReason · 17/08/2026 17:03

Where we are, they've been on holiday just over 4 weeks and go back in two weeks time, so well over 1/2 way.
I know Scotland go back a lot earlier than England.

Where are you ?
