To think DD is being ridiculous over her lost Roblox account

Eastie77Returns · 12/08/2026 17:31

DD is locked out of her Roblox account. She's convinced it has been hacked since the password apparently no longer works. The account doesn't have a linked e-mail address so she can't reset it. Roblox customer support cannot help her as she needs to prove the account is hers with e.g. billing e-mail receipt of a Roblox purchase which she doesn't have.

She has been crying on and off for a few days now and occaisonally stamping around the house shouting about the unfairness of it all. She is still trying to retrieve the account and has been on calls with multiple friends trying to find a workaround. I heard her complaining to one of them that if I was a proper mother I would have contacted Roblox's owners to resolve the issue😂

This morning I snapped when she began her daily moan about it and told her to just accept the account is gone. She is 13 and I really think she is a bit too old for this nonsense. Or am I being a bit harsh?

I don’t know what Roblox is but if I lost my Pokemon go account I might have a little cry. Must be awful if you’ve built up to certain levels, etc.

SerenaCat93 · 12/08/2026 17:37

Of course you're being harsh. It obviously matters to her so why are you laughing about it? She will have spent hours creating things and putting work into it and now it's all gone.

Not giving a shit about the things your child cares about is a one way ticket to a rubbish relationship with them when they're an adult.

Bookwormmumuk · 12/08/2026 17:45

It doesn't matter if it seems daft to you its important to her and you should care about her feelings and be able to empathise with her even if you dont understand.

IHaveTraumaFromAlfredHitchcocksTheBirds · 12/08/2026 17:52

She's 13?

You can either show her shes supported, even if you dont understand, or show her that something that is huge to her is laughable to you.

Choose wisely, this could shape what she tells you as her teen years progress.

BitCoinBillionaire · 12/08/2026 17:53

A normal parent would be helping her out and contacting Roblox

Shmodipshit · 12/08/2026 17:56

Has she never bought anything on Roblox at all?
If she hasn’t linked an email or phone number then all she can do is apply for a manual ownership check and send in her username plus any purchase proof. At 13, has she really never bought anything on it?

Boreded · 12/08/2026 17:56

Is this life now? We only care about something that means something to us?

Help her out, contact Roblox, they’ll sort it out for you. I don’t know why you aren’t being more supportive, she just needs an adult to talk to the adults who man the email helpdesk to come up with a solution together.

Imagine her having a real problem, she won’t come to you about it if you don’t help

There isn’t anything they can do unless she has her username and proof of billing to that username.

And saying what "I know you're already spoken to my daughter and told her there's nothing you can do but...[and here's some of the bat shit things I heard as a claims manager] I'm Ann Robinson's sister in law (when she was on watch dog), I know the police chief constable, I'm disabled, it was an act of god (what Jesus split paint on your carpet), My friends in the SAS, I calling from New York/Bulgaria/Dubai (same customer over 3 days), how am I going to entertain my kids with no TV?".

What exactly is the op going to do? There is nothing to be done. The kids learnt a very valuable lesson about cyber security, back up plans, linking accounts for security reasons.

Have you asked ChatGPT this is the sort of stuff it’s usually helpful with? Agree it’s daft, but its whats important to a 13yr old.

Even if op cant get the account back she has shown her daughter that she's tried and that what's important to her daughter matters.

Well well. Aren't you a delight , @Eastie77Returns

Ffs start acting like a mother who loves her child. Help her sort this.

Why is it daft? The child is 13. It's hugely important to her. It's definitely not daft

This. You are being awful. Imagine losing your phone with everything on it. This is probably how she feels atm

dontforgetme · 12/08/2026 18:16

I think I would have snapped after a couple of days of relentless moaning to op, especially in this heat!

Have you tried contacting Roblox or just her? If it were me and it was completely lost, I would sit with my dd whilst she makes a new one and give her some Robux to try and recoup what she’s lost, then set some extra tasks to do around the house to earn some more over the weekend.

Topseyt123 · 12/08/2026 18:16

I agree with you, OP. I'd probably have snapped at mine too if they did that.

My kids are adults now but always knew that this sort of thing and me just don't mix, so they knew/know better than to ask. They are better at solving it themselves.

Providing Proof of Ownership
Because there is no email to verify who you are, Roblox Support requires strict proof before handing over the account: 1, 2, 3, 4]

can she provide any of the above? How was the Roblox purchased initially?

It’s an online computer game and so, yes, to most adults it does seem a bit daft. And to be honest after 3 days my empathy and patience would be wearing thin.
BUT to her it isn’t any different to anything that you might put lots of time and energy into. Equate it to the destruction of a piece of art or writing that she’s spent ages on. It doesn’t seem like there’s anything to be done but it perhaps wouldn’t hurt to at least look like you’re trying to help fix it!

Roblox is free to play.

Spidermandino · 12/08/2026 18:21

Happened to my son but re realised he was logged in in the Xbox and that worked. Is she logged into any other device?

Abracadeborah · 12/08/2026 18:22

Why aren’t you helping her?

pictoosh · 12/08/2026 18:24

You might think it's a big so what but it's important to her.
Not saying you have to spend any time on it but you should accept that it's a big deal in her life. People don't tend to cry for days over things that don't matter.

Jeska7 · 12/08/2026 18:30

It’s worthwhile contacting Roblox IT support and trying to help. You might be able to do something that she cannot. It obviously means a lot to her. She’s probably worked hard on it for she’s and it’s all lost now. You’re dismissing something that’s very important to her.

if you’ve helped and there’s nothing to be done, I agree you could set up another account and buy her some Roblox if you can afford some so she can build some of what she’s lost on the old account. It’s summer too. She’ll be connecting with friends online and they will all be playing online and she’s missing out. So it’ll probably be worse for her now than if it happened during school term time.

Roblox is free to play.

It is free to play but there are things that can be purchased within Roblox. My son is only a year older and has occasionally used his bank card to buy the credits (Robucks??) within the game.
