To think DD is being ridiculous over her lost Roblox account

Eastie77Returns · 12/08/2026 17:31

DD is locked out of her Roblox account. She's convinced it has been hacked since the password apparently no longer works. The account doesn't have a linked e-mail address so she can't reset it. Roblox customer support cannot help her as she needs to prove the account is hers with e.g. billing e-mail receipt of a Roblox purchase which she doesn't have.

She has been crying on and off for a few days now and occaisonally stamping around the house shouting about the unfairness of it all. She is still trying to retrieve the account and has been on calls with multiple friends trying to find a workaround. I heard her complaining to one of them that if I was a proper mother I would have contacted Roblox's owners to resolve the issue😂

This morning I snapped when she began her daily moan about it and told her to just accept the account is gone. She is 13 and I really think she is a bit too old for this nonsense. Or am I being a bit harsh?

Roblox is a creative outlet, kids will design, code and play the games they create. They can share the games they make and play games their friends make. It takes a lot of work to think of a game, design it, code it and then play test it. A lot of the top game designers started on Roblox.

Think of it like a budding author who’s written some novellas and then someone hacks their account and is now passing off her work as their own. It’s no different.

Her creations on Roblox are her property. It’s being stolen from her. If she also wants to go on to do computer science & game design as an adult career, she’s lost the equivalent of an artist’s early portfolio when going for art school.

NullaEffugium · 12/08/2026 18:42

I think I would have snapped after a couple of days of relentless moaning to op, especially in this heat!

If you help your child when they ask, then miraculously you don’t get days of ‘moaning.’

AgnesMcDoo · 12/08/2026 18:42

She will have lost things she’s spent tons of time building and may lose connections with online friends. It’s a big deal if you are that age. You could be more understanding and sympathetic

A normal parent would be helping her out and contacting Roblox

Roblox customer support is extremely shit. I agree OP could do this, I assume she already has.doje everything possible or the daughter has done everything possible. Given the age of the daughter it's likely she has done everything that can be done already.
That doesn't mean OP can't provide empathy. But that's likely all she can provide

BillieWiper · 12/08/2026 18:43

She's only a child and she's lost access to her favourite thing. Seemingly through no fault of her own. Of course she'll be upset.
Can you not help her set up a new one?

If not then she will get over it eventually. By all means tell her moaning won't change anything so please stop. But I think her reaction seems pretty measured for an early teen!

GaaNeen · 12/08/2026 18:46

Poor kid
probably racked up hours invested in this
don’t be MEAN
help your child
not funny

FieryA · 12/08/2026 18:46

Why are you being so mean towards your daughter? I mean she is only 13 and has lost something that she enjoys very much. Why wouldn't you even try to help or be understanding?

dontforgetme · 12/08/2026 18:52

@NullaEffugium And like I said my post, I would have helped my child.

It is free to play but there are things that can be purchased within Roblox. My son is only a year older and has occasionally used his bank card to buy the credits (Robucks??) within the game.

True but the op suggested that she’s never made any monetary transactions.

DecisionTime123 · 12/08/2026 18:56

She's only 13 FFS OP, its important to her, don't dismiss or trivialise her worries if you want a good relationship going forward, Why can't parents see this?!

Ponderingwindow · 12/08/2026 18:56

Imagine losing your journal or your sketchbook. That is what your daughter has lost.

have you not helped her at all to retrieve the account? Obviously you aren’t going to call the owners, but you are better equipped to figure this out.

SixAndJuliet · 12/08/2026 18:58

I think her reaction is extreme and I have kids who love Roblox. I’d be slightly worried who shes been communicating with on there (and now can’t)

Peachy2005 · 12/08/2026 19:11

Have you done a search in your own email or any adult who might have helped her when she was setting it up? I just searched in my email and found a couple of emails even though I don’t remember being involved and DS is now 19. It rings a little bell now though that there has to be parental involvement at the time…

Peachy2005 · 12/08/2026 19:21

I meant *had to be, not has to be.

cramptramp · 12/08/2026 19:21

I can understand her being upset, but stomping round the house for a few days is really childish behaviour for a 13 year old.

Eastie77Returns · 12/08/2026 19:47

I tried to help her when she first told me about it. She was convinced she was still logged onto it on an old device that she couldn't find a charger for, so I went out and bought her a charger. She charged up the old device and had to update Roblox when it had booted up as she hadn't used the device for so long. When she did that, she was still logged out.

I helped her with a message to Roblox customer support.

Tried Claude and ChatGPT for advice.

Spent over an hour trawling Reddit posts from other people this happened to. The over-riding message on those boards is that there is literally nothing that can be done without proof of ownership. DD says she has bought avatars and other things on Roblox but doesn't have any e-mail receipts.

I lost patience because her upset has been going on for days and days along with a lot of rudeness, stomping around and being really unpleasant to everyone including her younger brother. She is angry that he still has his Roblox account and has threatened to break his iPad so he can't play it.

And people think that because I finally snapped after all this I am a terrible parent and this will define our relationship forever more. I actually think allowing her to contine this self defeating behaviour without saying anything would make me a worse parent.

I have found e-mails from Roblox in which I've beenn asked to give permission to update her daily screen limit and enable Chat experiences. I have sent a screenshot to Roblox customer support as the e-mails clearly show her username.

Well, now that this has happened once, you should probably go and link an email address to your son’s Roblox account so he can log back in if it happens to him.

AutisticMumOf2 · 12/08/2026 19:54

I'm with your daughter on this one.

Child acts like a child and you’re surprised?

HawaiiWake · 12/08/2026 19:57

If she bought avatar, what was the payment type? It does have to be email receipts since there was no email to account. Did she use a gift card, someone PayPal account, debit card etc. Try and use those details to get the account back. What was the last device she played it with? Thinking it could be at a friend’s house and their device.

Otherwise set up new account properly with email.

UniquePinkSwan · 12/08/2026 19:57

Very harsh. I’m a gamer and if I lost my account to a favourite game I would be devastated

Floppyearedlab · 12/08/2026 20:03

It’s summer, she is a child and she should not be rotting her brain cells on devices
She’s addicted. Close the account down

So it was tie to parents email, this should help. Or was the alert via phone number option. Roblox should generate a ticket with number, use the same ticket number and not different ones because it would delay process.

Soonflower · 12/08/2026 20:03

Her reaction is because she’s addicted, which is due to your parenting. You can’t allow her to have it because you think it’s important, then complain about her reaction when it goes wrong.
