To think DD is being ridiculous over her lost Roblox account

Eastie77Returns · 12/08/2026 17:31

DD is locked out of her Roblox account. She's convinced it has been hacked since the password apparently no longer works. The account doesn't have a linked e-mail address so she can't reset it. Roblox customer support cannot help her as she needs to prove the account is hers with e.g. billing e-mail receipt of a Roblox purchase which she doesn't have.

She has been crying on and off for a few days now and occaisonally stamping around the house shouting about the unfairness of it all. She is still trying to retrieve the account and has been on calls with multiple friends trying to find a workaround. I heard her complaining to one of them that if I was a proper mother I would have contacted Roblox's owners to resolve the issue😂

This morning I snapped when she began her daily moan about it and told her to just accept the account is gone. She is 13 and I really think she is a bit too old for this nonsense. Or am I being a bit harsh?

You might have done all that to help. Well done. Minimum parent imo work BUT your Op is mocking and sneery of her and subsequent drip feeds indicates the reason this is all all a problem in the first place.

yes you helped her. Probably to shut her up. do you actually care ? doubt it. I’d be more worried at her lack of coping and reasoning skills on this. And her consequent bullying of sibling.

it’s not a proud parenting moment.

ps I’ve done this twice for two of my kids so I know the extent of info required and time it takes to get responses from Roblox customer services. It’s pain in the butt. And usually roblox give no fucks either.

Twinkylightsg · 13/08/2026 07:02

If it had been a physical project she bad been working on dor the same amount of time she has the roblox account and it got destroyed would you have been more understandng?

Because its the same thing in her mind

Frumpitydoo · 13/08/2026 07:07

You sound lazy and unkind. I'd do everything i could to help DD rescue something dear to her and if the account was iretrievable then i'd let her set one up in my name, with my details. I however already have a Roblox accunt so i can keep an eye on what DD gets up to on there and play games with her on there. Be better OP.

Yogabearmous · 13/08/2026 07:13

Help her create another account and set up properly with email. Give her some money to buy a few credits and she can (sadly) start again.
it’s a big deal to her. Please be kind.

It is daft. But 13 year olds are into daft things.

Just because you don’t understand and gaming doesn’t make it daft. I know mumsnet is anti gaming but calling it daft is a a joke. If someone came in and stole a collection of yours and you knew you wouldn’t get it back you’d be devastated

BusyDog · 13/08/2026 07:26

Her behaviour is unacceptable.
She cannot threaten to break siblings iPad so can’t play it either.
She can’t treat everyone with such hatred, it isn’t anyone there’s fault!
She’s also clearly far too invested in this computer game. I’d say past the point it’s fun and more into obsessive. I’m honestly not sure I’d allow her to have a new account? My eldest two are 12 and 11, so at an age where most of their friends are allowed some time type of gaming, and they do not play it. It seems to be highly addictive and a time drain based on some of their peers.
I’d be very worried about her reaction

hippospot · 13/08/2026 07:50

At a similar age DS lost his Minecraft account (hacked) with 1000+ hours of play. He was totally devastated and we were sympathetic. He learned the hard way about needing secure passwords. I really felt for him.

Shedmistress · 13/08/2026 07:53

How do you even log on without an email address?

Child acts like a child and you’re surprised?

Child is 13, going into y9 in a couple of weeks and likely choosing GCSE options within the next few months.

Old enough to stop tamtrumming about something that her mum HAS tried to fix, and old enough to stop picking on her sibling because she's jealous his account still works

Missey85 · 13/08/2026 08:06

With all the pervert freaks on that game your daughters probably better without it my friend deleted her daughters account because men were pretending to be kids and sending dick pics to her iPad

Eastie77Returns · 13/08/2026 08:14

She was over invested in this game and so I do think that all of this is a blessing in disguise. I am not encouraging her to move on to Minecraft or another fucking addictive platform. She needs to spend less time on devices. Yesterday she had friends over, did some baking and seemed happier.

I did offer to help her open up another account btw but she said no. If she can’t have her old one back she isn’t interested which is fair enough.

I do hope your superior parenting includes teaching your DD to spell and avoid very unfortunate typos😂

I’d be questioning her obsession with this game and asking whether or not it’s in her best interests to be playing something so much that she has been as affected as much as she has.

She will probably learn to not put so much energy into the virtual, online world. It has shown itself to be unpredictable and susceptible to hackers. Unfortunately, she has learnt the hard way.

I would encourage her to put more of her energy into something in the real world. I really feel for her. It must have been upsetting. It's only a game but still it was her passion.

crumbssonmyface · 13/08/2026 08:36

Actually shocked by your attitude. Your girl has probably spent hours and hours building something, so not surprised she’s distraught after losing it. Instead of helping her and supporting her, you’re bitching about it. Just imagine how you would feel if something you worked hard on for a long time was just gone…

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 13/08/2026 08:48

I get it. But I'm a gamer. It is actually devastating when something like this happens. Maybe help her get it back? If she's ever purchased robux then there will be a way. Easier if an adult deals with it I'd imagine.

I get what you are saying but equally I find all collections daft. I am not interested in collections of any kind. I can understand that they are important to people but find it a bit silly. Just as some people will find my interests silly.
I should add I love gaming am a big Zelda and Fifa fan and have been for years but would and never would have cried for days over losing data.

Hankunamatata · 13/08/2026 21:01

Yep mine would be devastated.

15 yr old had his hacked recently and was so upset (he has asd but in mainstream). Luckily managed to sort it from parental account but he lost nearly everything.

Peonies12 · 13/08/2026 21:12

Im so sad by your attitude. It’s important to her even though it seems trivial to you. Even if it cant be recovered, you should try and help, and allow her to be upset.

Wow defensive much. Why not listen to all the advice here about having a smidge of sympathy.

Eastie77Returns · 14/08/2026 19:22

We have a new record - no mention of Roblox for the 24 hours🥳 She has her first horse riding lesson booked for Sunday and now seems focused on that.

maxslice · 14/08/2026 19:25

She’s going to love it.

IAmTheStreets · 17/08/2026 07:35

It's important to her and while she'll forget about it in a while and wouldn't even think twice of it next year, it's important to her right now. Give her a little time. I get it, listening to this is exhausting, but she's a teenager, right now it's a major tragedy. We all have been here after all.
