And that’s the bloody spiders.

The size of my hand.

In my house.

Bastards.

You should have seen the size of the one I saw today, fangs gnashing, willy waiting to rub itself when I’m asleep.

Huge, I tell you, they are huge.

🕷️

Absolutely savage fuckers hiding in all the nooks and crannies.
And I swear the flies numbers have tripled this year, they're bloody everywhere.

SandwichSuperstar · 11/08/2026 22:59

Oh I don’t know.

My ice cream man’s wife was discussing earlier which private school their daughter will be attending soon 😁

Bonjovispjs · 11/08/2026 23:03

Just found the first spider I've ever had in my flat, crawling up the kitchen wall, lived here for 14 years. I'm terrified of them 😫

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/08/2026 23:04

Yeah we’ve had two already.

Douane · 11/08/2026 23:04

If these heat waves continue to be the way the summer weather is going to be going forward, people will have more to worry about than spiders.
For one thing you'll have to get screens on your windows.
Another thing is don't knock spiders, they're eating the great abundance of insects that did so well in the hot dry weather earlier in the summer.
There aren't that many spiders that are harmful, but they do clean up various insects including flies if you let them.
I'd rather have a spider or two in my home then a bunch of flies getting into the open and screenless window.

😂😂 brilliant

TheGospelAccordingToMe · 12/08/2026 00:19

Oh god, there were 2 massive fuckers in DP's flat this weekend and I've been shitting myself since I've been home that I'll find one (or more 😩) while I'm here on my own. I'm so ridiculously scared of them that when I came home once and found one huge bastard on my ceiling I had to post on my street's WA group asking someone to come and save me!

Edited to add: even though I haven't seen one I do have cobwebs springing up everywhere atm 😱

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and fucking miserable in this heat! I was making the bed this morning and saw a spider literally the size of my hand on our bed. And when I say literally - I mean literally. No exaggeration. I felt so defeated by it that I immediately went downstairs, flopped myself onto the sofa and began crying hysterically. DP handled it when he got home. When he got home and saw me crying he thought someone had died.

LooneyLiberalSpaceWaster · 12/08/2026 00:25

We always have lots of spiders as fairly rural here with lots of trees. Don't mind spiders.

But now we have large flying beetle things, no idea what they are but I am terrified of anything with a crispy body and many legs.Sad

GarlicAnywhere · 12/08/2026 00:27

YANBU but they eat the increasingly 'interesting' insects appearing in my flat, and I'd rather have the spiders!

dudsville · 12/08/2026 00:29

We have so, so many spiders in the house, but they aren't the ones I can't abide, so I leave them be. I'm starting to feel quite friendly towards them. One in particular was looking a little hungry and parched, but when I tried to catch him to put him outside he suddenly found energy and hid, until yesterday that is when he was too tired to fight. I got a wooden spoon and scooped him up. Once on the spoon he splayed himself, like "I am spider, see me and bow to my ferocity", but not moving beyond that heroic display. I took him out to the garden. He didn't want to leave the spoon until I put it next to the stalk of a plant. It was a real pleasure to see him perk up and move on to the plant. He may die anyway from dehydration, hunger or lifespan, but I'm glad his final view won't be from behind my hallway bureau.

BrewCake for you.

I have to admit, I actually love spiders. The more the merrier, in my house😂

I’m an amazing troll.

What's the point?

Mumsnet doesn't have moderators, fwiw. So I don't know who you think you're 'beating'. Or why you bother.

Mumsnet makes you work 9-5? They should definitely fire you!

T1Dmama · 12/08/2026 00:49

We had a spider living in our kitchen window - it was there for ages & we watched it double in size,
I think people need to look at spiders differently, they’re awesome creatures…

I don’t think you’re an amazing anything… you just sound sad, lonely and bored.
Maybe get a hobby or volunteer somewhere!

With the price of them these days they will be able to get her a chauffer driven limo to be taken in too!

PDAalltheway · 12/08/2026 03:19

We have lots of spiders because we don't clean, but it's the mosquitos that are doing well in this weather. I probably need more spiders to deal with them.

MinnieMountain · 12/08/2026 05:27

Do you want to borrow our cat? No spiders in our house since we got her.

LittleEsme · 12/08/2026 05:33

I have never, ever thought of a spider’s willy before this thread.

Fun fact.

Mydogisagentleman · 12/08/2026 05:49

I love spiders.
We had one that moved into the wing mirror of the car in Switzerland, moved to Belgium with us and was last seen in Manchester.
Grasshoppers are what there are here.
I saw 7 yesterday in the garden

SoBoredOfSelfDoubtHowToGetOut · 12/08/2026 05:49

Ticks too. I bet they’re having a lovely time.
