Hello lovely mumsnet hive.
so…. I thought we could have a thread of things that made you happy recently. I feel there is so much negative poop out there that maybe this thread will make someone smile or help their day get a little brighter.
My happy thing is my dog. He is a Caucasian Sheppard whom we rescued in September. Now, as a breed they are like no other dogs, unless they are a guardian breed and when we rescued him, he was underweight and came from a bad situation.
he didn’t know what a bone was.
he wanted to eat chips and kebab ( we got a takeaway and he was crazy about getting some)
he didn’t know what toys were. We have tried to get him some but he has no interest.
about 4 days ago I got him a ball that makes a noise from Aldi. £4.99. HE LOVES IT. He is playing like a puppy. He takes it to bed. And honestly, seeing him so happy has made me ridiculously happy!!
I’ll attach pictures of the short monster. ❤️

Having the last bit of dyed brown cut from
my hair and am now fully white silver haired after two years growing out
love it and makes me very happy x

Viperregency · 10/08/2026 16:02

Oh he’s gorgeous op and looks very happy. I hope you have very many years together.

im taking early retirement soon, i cannot wait, im 57, that makes me happy, and ive booked a big holiday for when i leave. That also makes me happy. Also I’ve many things booked with my adult daughter and partner, and spending time with her/them, makes me happy. I went out for a lovely lunch with my husband yesterday, enjoyed some expensive wine. That made me happy.

right now im into experiences. Enjoying myself with people I love.

What a beautiful dog!

I love the little joys of life. Today I've have a lovely cuddle in the garden with my tabby cat and it's been cool enough to wear my favourite very soft cardigan.

AllotmentOtter · 10/08/2026 16:11

Oh @Marinerscove he's gorgeous! I get it - my rescue had been with us for 8 weeks when he slept on his back for the first time. It made me so happy that he was feeling comfortable and relaxed enough to do that.

More recently I sat on the back doorstep at around 9pm, just dusk, while aforementioned dog mooched around the garden. It was still warm, the sheep in the field the other side of our hedge were baaing softly, an owl was hooting in the distance and I watched bats flitting around the garden. There was no other noise at all and it was absolute bliss.

Listened to the Beatles Here comes the Sun, that made me feel happy!

Watching the butterflies in the garden.

Our guinea pigs curled up asleep, so cute

Dontevenlookatme · 10/08/2026 16:15

I’ve just had Amtico flooring laid in the hall, it’s a lovely warm oak and is covering the cold grey ceramic tiles chosen by our predecessor. It gives me joy literally every time I see it. I had no idea how depressing that grey was until it was covered up. Am now eyeing the kitchen floor…

GrillaMilla · 10/08/2026 16:15

Oh, and finding a new pair of Clarks trainers in the charity shop for £12, now that did make me happy!!

RaraRachael · 10/08/2026 16:32

Spending a couple of days with my daughter and family. My OH isn't very well atm so we're not able to go on holiday.
Two days spent with our lovely wee grandchildren really cheered us up.

Gotback · 10/08/2026 16:38

Harvest time: only about 7 green beans and 2 tomatoes today but it still makes me ridiculously happy.

Itiswhysofew · 10/08/2026 16:44

Love him, OP😍

I know they're not little, but seeing so much sun & blue sky has been a real tonic for me. Fortunately, I'm not experiencing extreme heat where I live.

MrsMillyFluff · 10/08/2026 16:44

An achievement at work that I actually received praise for, for once. I worked my arse off and I'm knackered (physical and mental work), but because the bosses and (mainly) the customers were impressed with what I achieved, I feel very content at the moment 😊

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/08/2026 16:47

Parakeets! There are so many in our garden. They are so cute and so excitable.

We have had super hot weather here in West Midlands but it’s been so lovely to have bright skies and sunshine. I feel it makes people happier when the sun is shining.
and thank you. ❤️

Wow- that sounds super cool!! How come you have so many in your garden? I am sort of jealous. 😂❤️

Awww well done!!! Fat hairy pants also says well done. That’s incredible and so wonderful that you take such pride in your work and it’s recognised. Loved reading this. ❤️

A little thing within a big thing. My mother died 10 years ago but my bonus dad is still alive. This last week we have been staying in his home while on holiday in my birth country. He had stocked up with all my favourite things from my childhood. Made me feel very loved.

Alwayschillyatnight · 10/08/2026 16:53

Kittens.
I doubted the decision, doubted taking on more responsibilities, but of my goodness was it the right decision for our family. I am so happy and so are my kids.

I've had 6 tomatoes ripen on my greenhouse plants - I'm looking forward to eating them.

We had a little rain last night (NW) and that made me and the lawns happy !

I saw a small sliver of a moon early this morning, it was pretty !

RunAlongDoggy · 10/08/2026 16:55

@Marinerscove Aw, he's a little smooshy face!!!

I would be really, really happy if I could find a very decadent, low calorie chocolate treat to either make or buy.

I'm staying positive and waiting for someone to solve this problem for me!

Have you tired fiber one bars? They’re quite nice.
I make some and freeze, take them out about 5 mins before freezing.

  • 100g 0% Greek yoghurt
  • 15g cocoa powder
  • 15–20g powdered sweetener
  • Tiny pinch of salt
  • Optional: a few drops vanilla
Mix until really thick and shiny, spoon into 6–8 little blobs on baking paper and freeze for about an hour.
