What little things have made you happy recently?

Hello lovely mumsnet hive.
so…. I thought we could have a thread of things that made you happy recently. I feel there is so much negative poop out there that maybe this thread will make someone smile or help their day get a little brighter.
My happy thing is my dog. He is a Caucasian Sheppard whom we rescued in September. Now, as a breed they are like no other dogs, unless they are a guardian breed and when we rescued him, he was underweight and came from a bad situation.
he didn’t know what a bone was.
he wanted to eat chips and kebab ( we got a takeaway and he was crazy about getting some)
he didn’t know what toys were. We have tried to get him some but he has no interest.
about 4 days ago I got him a ball that makes a noise from Aldi. £4.99. HE LOVES IT. He is playing like a puppy. He takes it to bed. And honestly, seeing him so happy has made me ridiculously happy!!
I’ll attach pictures of the short monster. ❤️

My youngest currently, he discovered a new sport back in may and has found his passion. He's not naturally gifted at it or anything, far from the best in his age category but he's absolutely hooked, and seeing him put so much effort and focus into something makes my heart sing. He gets so much joy from it and has made some good friends, it's so lovely to see

Oh this is soooo lovely. I do hope he keeps at it and doesn’t matter if he is amazing or not- he is trying and giving it his all. It will form him into a determined person and also, it’s so lovely that you just love the fact he is doing it. Doesn’t matter how well. At least he gets up, gets out and does it!!
That, in its own, is wonderful. ❤️❤️

Ok I now want a Caucasian shepherd!! I saw a turtle swimming in the open sea on holiday, that was honestly my absolute highlight - s/he was gorgeous and happily pootling along. Obvs I was too slow to take a photo.

They are an interesting breed. Lovely but you need to work with them, a lot more so than a, Labrador, for an example.
also, you need to have a very good vacuum and be happy to vacuum 4 times a day, enjoy your toast with a sprinkle of fur, spend hours brushing and then they still look like they walked through a bunch backwards. Oh and spend a lot on a groom once a month. 🤣 but 100% worth it.
oooh I love turtles. They are so weirdly wonderful and seeing one swimming sounds like a once in a lifetime. How lucky.
doesn’t matter about the picture, it’s in your mind. ❤️❤️

My mum has bought a Nintendo Wii, and now has her friends round a couple of times a week to play it. They're all loving it. It's silly, social, and fun.

What a lovely thread 😍 Walking hand in hand with my husband today, watching our dog race through a meadow like a loon, made me very happy 💛

Love your boy OP

Our family suffered a huge tragedy/loss 9 months ago. At the time we had just got a kitten (plus we already had an older cat). They didn’t get on. Didn’t ever actually fight, but the older cat would hiss and just didn’t want to be friends. We were so distracted by grief we didn’t really have the emotional reserve to do much to help them along (please don’t flame me for that - they weren’t suffering).

Last week we took both cats away on a cottage holiday and they just made friends. Cuddled up, played together. We were all really on edge hoping it would last when we returned home. And it has. They are best buddies now and although nothing will ever make me truly happy again, I do get a little spark of pleasure every time I look at them together.

This is a lovely thread. Thank you.

I’m so sorry for your hurt 💐

I have taken my 3 foster teens to play cricket 3 days in a row. I have had 3 idyllic days sitting in sunshine, with shade and a picnic. 1 played on Saturday and 2 played Sunday and today. Saturday 7 hours of sitting in basically a field watching eldest play and taking 3 wickets. Sunday youngest teen took 2 wickets and scored 15 runs and middle teen 1 wicket and 12 runs. All fixed well and seemed so happy playing with their teammates in the sunshine. I just think well none of them are home making a mess so there won't be much tidying to do tonight.

Awww that’s perfect. I used to play county cricket and have coached a lot. This makes me incredibly happy.
it’s a great sport that’s underrated. And well done, they did a cracking job.
I’m not sure where you’re based but I have connections to Worcestershire and the oval. Can always get them a day out so they can meet the players and have a fun day out.
unloved when kids love cricket. ❤️❤️❤️

What a lovely thread @Marinerscove - and your boy is absolutely gorgeous and how adorable that he has learnt to play ❤

@Mondaytuesdayhappydays - congratulations on becoming a silver vixen and welcome to the club!

My "little" news is that I just got engaged! In my mid-50s! After a horrible divorce I was sworn off men and even when I met my lovely DP (now fiancé!!!) I said I would never get married again. But when he said "I want to spend the rest of my life with you" and slipped a beautiful silver commitment ring onto my finger I said yes immediately😊We're not making plans to get married any time soon, we don't even live together atm but I am so so happy.

Two things. The other day I saw a Moomin baseball cap in a shop and thought oh that would be nice to have and walked away, then thought wait a minute, I'm an adult with control of my own money that I worked hard for, I can buy a hat that I want! So turned back and got it and worn it every day since.

And went to visit some sheep recently and got to feed them. They were so lovely, didn't realise sheep love to be petted and scratched much like dogs do!

Sheep are just prototype goats that didn't work out 😀

Last week they went to a Bears 12 v county 11 from a selection of local clubs. I had got them mini bats and the Bears signed their bats and bowled at them in nets. 2 got signed T shirts literally off the players backs. It was such a fun day. I've been on holidays to Venice and France this year and sitting there watching them play in the sunshine I just got aoment of thinking there's nowhere I'd rather be right now. I am perfectly content and happy.

Morning all! Love reading all the happy things!

After yesterday's post about chocolate, I broke down and ate a whole sleeve + got me some bourbons! I am repenting today but, at the time, I was in ecstasy. I just love those things 😍

Am holding on to that feeling all day today and being happy reading about others being happy!

PolkaDotPorridge · 11/08/2026 09:22

Omg he’s gorgeous! 🐾❤️

I've been staring into the north eastern sky for the last couple of nights hoping to catch the Perseid meteor shower. I was rewarded with a couple of shooting stars last night. Magical.
