I think we have a member of the Royal Family on here today, they do that apparently. When G6 died and his daughter became E2 she had someone take black clothes to the airport for their return and Churchill etc had to wait on the tarmac until she changed in the aircraft, since then something black is always packed.

As for weird stuff my ;ate OH always packed a do-it-yourself emergency tooth filling kit, as well as the M.A.S.H he seemed to pack.

I never take enough clothes, underwear being a particular one. Packing makes me really angry for some reason so i solve that by not packing much. I hate the thought of packing something, having it on a hanger for a week putting it back in the bag, unpacking it. Just better not to take it in my opinion, cut out the faff.

I wish I had this idea before!! We had carbon monoxide poisoning at a chalet in the French alps. Apparently is not mandatory in France to have a detector when you rent your property... it was really scary, specially because I was pregnant at the time and we had several kids with us. We were lucky that it wasn't worse !

Meant to post this a few days ago. Many of you probably already have a Carbon Monoxide detector near your boiler. So you could just take the one you’ve already got. I replaced one recently and it just unclipped.

OMG dont tell my OH this about the clothes rail. Im a heavy packer but he is much worse, he takes tons more stuff than me and he would definitely want that mini wardrobe. Thats brilliant!!!

A few months ago we went to an all inclusive beach resort and my DH took

• both sons Predator football boots on the off chance they wanted to play football
• 2 fully blown footballs
• a variety of football cones, the orange ones and the discus shaped ones
• a football pump. A proper foot one, not the type you'd use on a balloon
• 4 resistance bands with the handles on each ends

A spare phone, 3m charging cable, pen knife and bottle opener, length of string and a few pegs.

Though a flying Tuesday with just an underseat bag so the challenge is on! The MOST useful thing when travelling light is a set of contact lens cases; mine currently hold hydrocortisone cream/antiseptic cream and factor 50 facial suncream 😄

Coffee machine and pods when we do UK tours - Air BnB/hotels. Can't survive without nice coffee first thing.

A 100% cotton flat sheet to wrap around me in case I don’t like the texture of the bedding.

Temporary filling is always the first thing to pack nothing worse than toothache in a foreign country, spare sink plugs (so many hotels have had missing plugs over the years) pegs, sharpie (for kids floats) collapsible water bottles

UK holidays: coffee machine, desktop fans.
parents house in USA holidays: Vimto (youngest DS is 7 and is a really poor drinker he gets chronically dehydrated we have struggled with this since a toddler but he will drink Vimto easier than any other liquid!)

Are people bringing the CO monitors to hotels or self catering??

When we pack, we always split the stuff so if 1 case goes missing, there's a chance you've got some clothes in the other case. My friends looked at me like I was mad when I suggested this for a girls holiday! I packed my favourite outfit into my hand luggage just in case. There are lots of good ideas on here, I might amend my list!!

I think this is the one I have but there appear to be many other similar which are cheaper. I suspect it may have cost less at the time I bought it .

Try it. Just put a rubber door stop in place. Don't wedge it in, as if someone opens the door it will wedge. You can kick it out of the way in an emergency
