Should I fly to America for a gig?

So my favourite singer ever is playing a series of gigs in Utah in October. It’s over the weekend my kids are with their dad. Is it mental to fly there Thursday see the gigs Saturday and Sunday and fly back Monday? Get the kids back Tuesday? I can afford it - I’d be going alone. I’m scared . Would anyone else/ has anyone else done something like this?

Not crazy at all! You've the funds, you're independent, I'd say go for it!

AnnaQuayRules · 24/07/2026 21:22

Go for it!
If you can afford it, why not?

RhannionKPSS · 24/07/2026 21:25

Go!!! I flew to London from abroad on my own to see Kate Bush in concert in 2014 and it was worth every penny for the experience

owenkiks · 24/07/2026 21:28

Absolutely, my only advice is look to see if there is any kind of specialist insurance if the gig ends up getting cancelled, I had tickets to Dolly Parton’s Vegas residency which she needed to cancel due to ill health 💔 my hotel booking was refundable and the tickets obviously refunded no issue, but I lost over £1000 on the flights my travel insurance wouldn’t cover.

Trumpisacunt · 24/07/2026 21:28

Go go go...get that ticket booked !
Could you extend your stay and do a few days of tourist stuff too ?

Sprig1 · 24/07/2026 21:29

It's irresponsible. Think.of the environment.

Absolutely do it! Not the same as going to utah, but I went to vegas recently to see the backstreet boys at the sphere, it cost me a shitting fortune, but I'd pay it again. Try and get on the bands, facebook page or reddit page, because I bet there's loads of people going on the room that you could link up with

After wondering who the artist is, this is exactly what I thought of! If Kate Bush announced a concert in Outer Mongolia I'd be looking into flights and hotels 😂

I flew to Vegas for a weekend. Total whim to watch the showjumping . It’s doable .

RedCarsAreNice · 24/07/2026 21:34

Do it!!

meikyo · 24/07/2026 21:37

I flew from Scotland to Hong Kong last December for four nights for a 3 day music festival to see my two favourite bands. Went on my own and loved it! Do it!

TokyoSushi · 24/07/2026 21:38

Go! Have a lovely time!

You could have just gone and explored the city

Have fun! I know a young couple going to Boston for Ariana grande

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/07/2026 21:39

We went to Dublin from uk to watch DD’s favourite band. Ok so it’s not as far but still a journey. That said I went to Scarborough on Wednesday for the night to watch teddy swims and that was a much longer journey 😂. Do it!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 24/07/2026 21:41

Do it.
If I could afford it, I'd be seeing Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden.

A friend bought tickets for their favourite band as soon as tour dates were announced.
Then they paid a bit more attention and realised that the venue was in the US due to the old habit of US immigrants naming towns after their original home

What they had expected to require adding on a train ticket and a night in a hotel turned into a US holiday

We’ve been to Vegas a few times before, we opted to take the hit on the £1000 to have the other £3000. But yeah that’s a choice if it’s somewhere you’re happy to go to, I felt a little bad spending the time and money away from the kids for something we’ve done, I didn’t mind when it was for Dolly 😂

35 million animals kept as pets in the UK
35 million cars in the UK
35 million amazon deliveries per week
And you are worried about her getting on a plane to America when it will be going anyway. OP may do/have none of the above.

Ah fair enough

I mean the world is on fire right now due to global warming but you enjoy your gig op.

The plane will fly regardless. It's just a bit of weather. We coped in London. And we coped when we went on holiday to Italy.
