Should I fly to America for a gig?

So my favourite singer ever is playing a series of gigs in Utah in October. It’s over the weekend my kids are with their dad. Is it mental to fly there Thursday see the gigs Saturday and Sunday and fly back Monday? Get the kids back Tuesday? I can afford it - I’d be going alone. I’m scared . Would anyone else/ has anyone else done something like this?

Go!!! I flew to London from abroad on my own to see Kate Bush in concert in 2014 and it was worth every penny for the experience

Wasn’t it? I can contentedly shuffle off this mortal coil when my time comes having been there too! I was between a Dubliner and a Swedish pair of fans. 😁SO many travelled for it. Most I ever paid for a gig (this was even pre- surge pricing) but totally worth it!!! Long Live Queen Kate. I live in hope we’ll one day be able to buy the DVD…

The plane will fly regardless. It's just a bit of weather. We coped in London. And we coped when we went on holiday to Italy.

Global warming is not just a bit of weather. HTH.

Go for it - but the journey back from the U.S in economy (if you are flying economy) is always tiring because of the flight duration and time difference, particularly from the west coast or near west coast like Utah. I’d upgrade for the journey back.

My sister went to Fort Lauderdale to see Lady Gaga and Toronto to see Oasis (not in the same trip I might add). Do it! Life is short x

Also check out how you are getting to Park City (assuming that is the gigs you are going to) from the airport as public transport there is not what it is here. Park City is another couple of thousand feet up from Salt Lake City so take it easy as the altitude sickness might start to kick in if you are flying from pretty much sea level in the UK.

A bit of warm weather then?

Where is it burning? Can you see any smoke? I can't see anything

I think OP should go, but this comment is a bit disingenuous considering there are currently a number of wildfires in different countries.

Nope.

backformoreofthesame · Yesterday 14:23

Apart from the claimed emergency ?

the fewer people who fly, the fewer flights there are

Life is for living... DO IT!

The plane will be flying whether you're on it or not.

The jetlag when you get home and look after the kids would kill me. Would your exH keep them for an extra day? I'd totally go see a favourite band in the US.

If we all say inside and did nothing, what life would that be

BennyHenny · Yesterday 14:55

I’ve been so much happier since I started saying yes to things rather than overthink, prevaricate, decide against them and then wish I’d done them. Go for it OP, do the fun stuff in life whilst you have the opportunity!!

Nofeckingway · Yesterday 15:03

Oh hell . No not for Chris Isak . But I hope you have a great time . Melatonin purchase in the US and you can manage it . My old friend said she could sleep when she was dead .

Whammyammy · Yesterday 15:09

100% go for it. Try some extra days as utah lovely. I went on a work trip and extended. I was in SLC but went up to the mountains in park city, breath taking. Also done a road trip out to forrest gunp point.

Oldraver · Yesterday 15:18

Yes do it. I've flown to Vegas for four days ( and a day travelling either side) and it was exhausting so if possible do the gig the second night

I can knock CJ myself for not going to see my two fave bands as my passport wasn't current, and I would love to do Red Rocks

MPforTitipu · Yesterday 15:30

Salt Lake City has Uber if public transport doesn't work.

You can buy melatonin over the counter in US pharmacies to help with the jet lag.

Chris Isaak x

It looks sold out - have you already got tickets (or am I reading the website wrong?)

HollywoodTease · Yesterday 15:34

Well I'm flying to LA in September to see one of my favourite bands play at the Whisky on Sunset. They're a small- time band from Sweden, very far from being a household name or anything but I've followed them for a few years now. I fly on the Sunday, gig on the Wednesday, fly back on the Thursday. It'll be hard, but so worth it to see them on that iconic stage!

LondonLass2026 · Yesterday 15:38

Please do it. You won't regret it. My son has done this a few times on a whim. He works really hard so why not?

I haven't done this, but only because we have two dogs - one young, and one is getting older now, but otherwise I'd be doing it too! I hardly ever fly, and went on my first flight in my 20s, so I wouldn't feel guilty about doing this when you get kids going on 3 yearly flights.

It's irresponsible. Think.of the environment.

The plane will fly there whether she's on it or not.

Posting on the internet takes an environmental toll too, fwiw.

Yeah, posting on Mumsnet is pretty much equal to taking an intercontinental flight!!

Purplecatshopaholic · Yesterday 15:45

Absolutely do it, sounds amazing.
