AIBU to cancel my eyebrow procedure after this comment?

I went for a consultation yesterday to enquire about possibly getting microbladed eyebrows. The lady runs an independent company in her home. The consultation was helpful, she spoke me through all my options etc and I was ready to leave feeling positive.

However, just as I left, she made a passing comment about how ‘maybe next time I’ll let her know if I think about getting my lips done too’ (or
something to that degree, can’t remember the wording).

I do have extremely small, thin lips and I’m so self conscious about them. I actually had a small amount of filler a few years ago which has dissolved now. I was a bit taken aback so I mentioned this. She started to talk me through filler and blush, but she mentioned how you have to build up slowly to make ‘something out of nothing’. Basically saying I have no lips.

I am already aware of this and it’s made me feel awful. I am really low on confidence as is. I know it’s her job to try and upsell but I’m conscious about them as it is - the fact she brought it up without me mentioning it just made me think it’s more noticeable than I thought.

I actually had a few tears on the drive home and now I’ve cancelled my eyebrow appointment.. AIBU? I don’t know if I’m being too sensitive because I’m low on confidence!

It's a problem with the beauty industry that it relies on making you feel not good enough in order to sell you procedures. Unfortunately the woman you interacted with didn't build your trust first. She should have done a good job first then asked if you were interested in any of her other services and listed them all. Suggesting one thing is really tactless.

I'm sure you just look normal and don't need to spend money on filling your lips.

I had my hair done in a salon once and the hairdresser said "your hair is lovely but your eyebrows are too light" She then went on to try and get me to have them done. I was quite happy with my light eyebrows and never returned to the salon.

I would find someone else. The person doing your beauty treatments is of the utmost importance! This woman is not your woman. Her comment was not about you, she just doesn’t have what it takes to be a wonderful beauty therapist.

I still remember having my bridal hairstyle done by a hairdresser who spent my appointment telling me what a wonderful hairstyle the previous bride that day had had and showing me pictures. I never went back to her.

Forget her.. but Please find another technician. I had my brows done. i have almost non existant eyebrows ( too much plucking in the 70’s !) plus they are greying.
I was dying them but this process has re designed my brow, & eyes & I love it!
btw i do not have huge slug brows, they are discreet & make me feel better !

Bloody rude if you ask me, I wouldn't dream of asking a client if they wanted lip filler/lip blush unsolicited like that! It is for the client to ask what they want done. I have a fairly bold personality, but it would piss me off if an aesthetician started trying to upsell to me on the premise that they thought I had thin lips, just no.

Well leaving her aside for a moment, If body image is such a highly sensitive subject for you is it really wise to be getting anything done full stop?

She’s just trying to upsell and you already know you have thin lips so it shouldn’t really be a shock or knock your confidence.

I wouldnt take it personally, I went for lip filler £180 ended up spending £3k over the course of 6 months, who knew there were so many bits of me that needed a "tweak" 😁
Get your brows done and if she mentions doing your lips just say "I'll think about it"

I’d be annoyed too, it’s not very professional and obviously upset you.

The nurse who does my Botox says she dislikes people asking her what they need doing. She doesn’t want to mention something they had never thought was an issue.

Was she asian? Ive only had those type of comments from Asians. I am one too. And I think its bloody rude

Well, works both ways (though I'd never say anything rude to someone in that way) Each to their own. I would never want a hairdresser or someone doing beauty stuff who looks like they're full of filler and have that pornified look.

I grew up in an era where people just made the best of what they had with makeup. Women looked different. We had thin lips, full lips, short hair, long hair, make up, no make up and looked real. That's beautiful to me. I'm sure your lips are perfect.

I wouldn't go back as she's broken trust with you making that comment. Nobody needs any of it doing. It's just a choice.

She does eyebrows and lips. I wonder if she's got any qualifications to administer injections at home? Do you need any or any kind of accreditation?

I wouldn't be offended by her mentioning it but I wouldn't get microbladed eyebrows anyway, especially not from someone who works from home. And definitely not injections. Unless they were a qualified cosmetic nurse or doctor.

But the eyebrows always look really weird and the colour fades making them look quite odd to me. So yeah, don't go!

Please, please, PLEASE do not get a face tattoo from someone who works from their house.

I have many tattoos and this is SUCH a red flag.

I think the working from home is a bigger red flag than the comment tbh!

She was trying to tell you she also does lips and u fortunately touched a sore spot…
if you think her eyebrow work is good , I wouldn’t cancel because of this!
btw I did lip blush and am extremely happy with it. Did a slight over line in a very neutral, slightly pinker tone than my lips and they look so much better after and fullet

I think you're right to cancel.

I have a lady who does my botox and filler and another who does my brows, lashes and other permanent make up. What i really liked about each of them when I had my first consultation was how dedicated they were to listening to what I was hoping to achieve and then advising on the best options to get there and suit my face structure and colouring. One treatment I enquired about and was told I was not suitable for, which was reassuring as I reckon someone less scrupulous would have taken my money anyway.

I've never had a hard sell though sometimes they will chat about other treatments they've been doing that week and I'll think ooo i fancy finding out more about that! I've actually got lip blush done now (well I'm between the two appointments).

YANBU, I wouldn’t go back personally either.

i was having my eyebrows threaded and when the lady finished she said ‘and the hairy lip?’ I was in shock at the rudeness. For the record my lip hair is almost non existent and blonde, not that it really matters

This is like when the eyebrow threader asks if you want your moustache doing as well - it humbles you to hear it, but the answer should probably be yes. If you trust her with your brows, get the lips done at the same time and ask her for a discount.

They want your money. It's their job to offer/, encourage you to get other stuff done.

Meh. She’s a beautician. She will have clocked your thin lips immediately and thought she could improve them. Maybe an unwarranted comment, but I don’t suppose she meant to offend you.

Could she mean doing the lip blush tint? The woman who does my micro blading also offers that so she may have meant permanent make up rather than filler?
