Am I the only one who silences the TV when the BBC starts with their advert featuring Ramesh Ranganathan? It’s the BBC advertising (but they don’t show ads or do they now) how amazing they think they are through the comedy antics (?) of RR. It just boils my 9!$$

I watched it for the first time this evening.
What a load of tripe.
Every time I notice the BBC bigging itself up, I cringe.

It is a total cringefest.

I assumed it was to get ahead of any discussions about scrapping the TV licence.

It’s awful. Where are all the drag queens? That’s their USP these days and I don’t recall seeing any. I only watched it once during the World Cup and won’t be watching it again.

Yes and it reminded a lot of people why there should be a big discussion about it.

BBC fee really annoys me.

BBC fee is made up of broadcasting infrastructure fee + BBC programming fee.

We need to separate this out so people can opt out of BBC programming yet watch other live broadcast TV if they wish.

Until they do this I will not be happy.

Nothing about Jimmy Saville, Rolf Harris or Huw Edwards?

I rather liked it. But I am a fan of the BBC. I wouldn’t want to watch it twice, however.

I support the license fee as it provides for things like the World Service, which wouldn’t exist otherwise, and gets a democratic viewpoint into some very undemocratic places

And that's just the radio. I don't watch that much TV (though looking forward to a second series of Ludwig) but I happily pay the licence fee just for the radio content. It's an extraordinary amount of informative and educational content that's really carefully researched available to us, in the case of radio, totally free at point of consumption. What an amazing resource.

Hearing Greg James talk about what the BBC had done for him makes sense now. I tuned in midway through and thought he was leaving, it very much sounded like a thank you and goodbye speech.
I have gained from BBC, BBC bitesize got me through my GCSE's. That along with David Attenborough's documentaries got me through the home schooling during covid. CBeebies was a big part of routines for my little ones too, alphablocks, number blocks, cuddles watching 'In the Night Garden' before bed.

YABU.

It is fashionable to say 'don't pay the TV licence'. I presume the BBC are just reminding people just how many great programmes they produce and deliver on a regular basis (and they haven't even used Sir David Attenborough and all he has brought into the public eye over 70 odd years).

As a pp said, of course you are only seeing it, if you are watching BBC a fair bit. Which then seems fair enough to remind people, as the debate on how to fund the BBC in the future.

If you weren’t watching the BBC you wouldn’t see it 🤷‍♀️

I don't want any of that though so what is the logic behind me being forced to pay for it because I want to watch F1 on Sky ?

So the answer to "what has the BBC done for me" is pretty simple - forced me to pay for stuff I neither want nor use.

Burnham can keep his 45 quid VAT on electricity if he refunds me the 80% of the licence that I don't want (which is apparently the split for infrastructure vs programming).

The BBC is really important and it’ll be a great shame if we lose it, especially since Trump has withdrawn funding for PBS in the US.

Isn't it just a remake of one from the 80s or 90s? I def remember one with relevant performers at the time.

They could do some honest reporting on women's rights. And state the sex of transgender criminals. And stop the pushing of drag queens

I saw it during the World Cup final. Its awful and for me highlights how little the BBC do for me. Fucking Enders and Casualty. That's why I don't have a licence.
