All my clothes from ex house were destroyed

My husband and I separated a year ago and I moved out of the family home, I took lots of stuff with me and made trips back and forth to collect stuff, I didn’t take everything when I left as we were in a weird no man’s land where we discussed a possible trial separation. Things got more tense and it was obvious that we were permanently separating.

So I was trying to get access to my stuff for a long time but ex would skirt around the issue and say soon or not now, I’m busy etc.

Eventually he told me he would drop off bags of my stuff to my house. Looking inside everything was soaking wet, covered in mould and stinking. Most of it had to be binned. He then sent a text saying how everything was mouldy, how he had to destroy the wardrobe and how there was dead mice behind it.

It’s very odd as everything was fine when I was at the house last (October/November)no mould, just a normal wardrobe, the only thing was the bedroom looked like it had been shut up and not slept in or cleaned since I left (he was sleeping in another bedroom)

It’s a new(ish) build (15 years old) It’s really odd. What would you make of this??

It’s weird as they were absolutely soaked and covered in mould, paperwork and old literary magazines, old photos and other stuff all had to be binned too. We lived there for 15 years and all my stuff was fine, even Christmas jumpers that sat for a year were fine the following year. It’s just really strange.

He's clearly destroyed them on purpose

It’s not strange at all OP. This is what people do.

Hes had them in the garage or similar and has destroyed them. Ask him for details of his house insurance as you'd like to make a claim.

But how would you make stuff mouldy? The only thing I can think of is he chucked a load of soaking stuff on them and left them for ages. It’s very odd though, other thoughts was that him or his mother dumped everything of mine in the wet room with a load of other soaking stuff. Weird though.

They were put into bin bags and stored outside I expect.

I left due to abuse so I shouldn’t be surprised but I still dunno how everything got so mouldy so quickly but yeah possibly he dumped everything in the shed or even in a family members mouldy garage.

Take photos of every item and send him a bill. If he doesn’t pay it then tell him you will take him to court. Also report to the police

His mother (massive narc, hates my guts) goes into the house when ex is working to clean and sort stuff so yeah maybe she dumped everything outside!

He bagged it up and chucked it in the shed.

Yeah him and or his mum destroyed your stuff. Scum behaviour. I guess you could go down the small claims court route but it could be long winded and a hassle.

I'd never speak to either of them again though.

My DHs stuff ended up like this because it had been stored in boxes in a damp out building for a while. Believe there was also mice damage!!

Do you think I should text him (politely) to say that everything had to be binned and I need to replace everything and is it possible for him to contribute something towards it? Some items were nice winter coats, shoes, some stuff to be fair was from SHEIN but some were occasion dresses and nice stuff.

When I left my XH and he came back for his larger things while I cleared out for the day. I had already nicely packed his clothing and personal items for him, but this time he was picking up furniture and kitchen items. He took the opportunity to smash my things, including multiple glass items, and slash my clothing. His friends cleaned up after him as best as they could, but the damage was done.

This was a normally levelheaded man. His rage honestly shocked me.

While I sympathise with the OP and agree with others who say he just put them in bin bags and left them outside, I really think that calling the police is utterly pointless.

I think you just have to chalk it up to "one of those things". You have no evidence he did this on purpose (even though he probably did).
