AIBU to feel mildly irritated by 'congratulations again' comments online?

AIBU unreasonable to be mildly irritated/ amused by the people who comment “congratulations again” on social media posts? Like, look at me, I’m in the inner circle and already knew this important information?!

OP posts:
howcouldyouderek · 19/07/2026 14:05

Wow it wouldnt even occur to me to find this annoying, I would assume they'd posted across various social media and those "again" people are commenting on different platforms. I am only on certain ones so I certainly wouldnt take it personally at all.

But then I am quite self focused so what other people are up to has never been my top priority

aliceyyyy2654 · 19/07/2026 14:06

Why would this irritate you? Are you upset about not being in the ‘inner circle’?

JLou08 · 19/07/2026 14:22

Worse than that "I'm so glad the secrets out" "I can finally talk about it/post"

DesignerStars · 19/07/2026 14:50

The thing is that if people already know the news, what are they meant to do? To not comment at all might seem strange and rude if they're close to the person but to just say "congratulations!" as if it's the first time would also feel strange.

UpDownAllAround1 · 19/07/2026 14:52

Depends if a second divorce, new relationship or baby

JumpingRabbit · 19/07/2026 14:54

Wondering if this was me as I posted it yesterday 🤔

Id literally been texting the person about 30 mins before she posted on Facebook, would have been weird to not acknowledge that. And it wasn’t some super inner circle thing, it was her DD had posted about an hour before!

Backtobroc · 19/07/2026 14:55

You need to de activate your SM accounts op and take a long break

MrsPapillon · 19/07/2026 15:01

I always just do a little inward eye roll. Yes, it’s a bit pathetic (so much on SM is). Ignore the VIPs who are telling you that you’re wrong to even notice it. They’re obviously the types in question who MUST show their superiority at having heard previously that Emily from behind the bar in The Dog & Duck is with child. God forbid anyone was labouring under the misapprehension that they too had just discovered this groundbreaking news on facebook too.

People are still using social media?

You appear to be, yes

Bestfootforward11 · 19/07/2026 15:24

I don’t think it’d even cross my mind to think this!

ThisSereneGoose · 19/07/2026 15:24

Only sound like you are irritated you were not told first to be honest

ThisSereneGoose · 19/07/2026 15:26

Imadeit · 19/07/2026 13:05

Nah I agree with you OP. Those people who post under a pregnancy announcement 'so glad the secret is finally out' make me cringe myself inside out 😂

knowing that people don't mention a pregnancy for fear of losing it early, and that no longer keeping a secret means at least one step has safely been reached,

sounds very mean girl to be cringing about it all.

What do you mean still? It's not gone anywhere!

Have you just emerged from a cave?

YES I was coming here to say this too!

How would it be strange or rude to not respond to a sm post when you’ve already been told in person?

I’ve responded to news I’ve already known with “I’m so happy for you” or something that compounds what I’ve already said to them in private, but doesn’t make me look like a dick to people who have just found out. You don’t need to explicitly spell it out that you already knew.

it's more strange to monitor and make a drama over a 3 words comment on someone's else post frankly, who does that 😂

Do people genuinely have that much free time on their hand that they make note and become offended if someone knew something they didn't? WHY would you even care?

Are we back to accuse people of being "clique" because people get miffed if they dont' feel that they have got the top status with everyone?

No wonder we have so many MIL from hell around 😂

PuppyMonkey · 19/07/2026 15:57

So glad you’ve finally posted this OP, you’ve been saying it for such a long time. Grin

MrsPapillon · 19/07/2026 16:06

@ThisSereneGoose I don’t feel miffed or offended. It just goes on my mental ‘wanker’ list along with MLM types who use the phrase “Girl Boss”; anyone who uses the word “curated” or “put together”; people who use the singular form of ‘trousers’ or ‘lips’; anyone who has a passive agressive public rant about some minor upset; people who check in at hospitals or post pictures of a cannula in situ, and probably at least 20 other SM infractions. 😂

hereforthelolz · 19/07/2026 16:07

I'm lost. WTF.

maybe you should find a hobby and spending less time on social media? You seem to be giving a lot of thoughts for things that most people don't even notice, and follow people you don't even like?

I’m disabled so most of my world is online. And I’m a cantankerous, menopausal old grump. The internet isn’t just for the toxically positive. 🤷🏻‍♀️
