Neighbours having a karaoke party

The neighbours directly behind us have been having a karaoke party since about 6pm. It’s been fine up until now, and it’s suddenly ramped up a notch and they’re drunkenly screaming. We can hear it with the window closed, but it’s too hot to have the window closed anyway!

My partner has just had surgery and we both hoped to get some decent sleep tonight but it’s not going to happen now, is it?!

Every so often the microphone screeches with feedback too. AIBU to go around and say something?

When the people in the opposite block of flats to mine play loud music, I’m seriously tempted to leave my laptop on my balcony playing Vagina Anthem at full volume on repeat. But that would be really unfair on the rest of my block.

Obviously got sorted but totally unacceptable.
Hopefully won't happen again!
Believe the law about excessive noise is between 11pm and 7am - when something can be done about it.
FWIW - I have a chronic condition that is worsened by excess noise, so no way would I have coped as long as you did!
Hope your DH recovers soon and you both get some sleep!

YANBU. People are so selfish.

do you live near me?! My neighbours do the same EVERY single Sunday from 2 to about 9pm, and they are foreign speaking so all the songs are in a different language!! Not that it makes much of a difference but I can’t even join in! They shout scream at each other all day every day and then just get to Sunday and it all goes on for hours, every single week, it’s doing my head in, if it was every now and then I would definetly not have a problem with it but it’s a Sunday when you hope for a little piece and quiet and it’s every week, I got so cross today (had a migraine earlier which is making me more irritated by it) so I’ve put a note through the door, not a very nice one which I am now regretting i should have knocked and also not written what I wrote 😫

If at all possible and I had the means to do it, I would record the whole thing and play it back to them, speakers against the wall, at full volume starting at 5 am. Every morning for a week.

Perfect response!

I don’t understand the thinking behind this behaviour at all.

very rude to keep people awake whether it’s the weekend or not, lots of people work weekends now & need to b up early.

its hard enough to sleep in the hot weather without being disturbed by other peoples noise.

Tazmania77 · 19/07/2026 20:09

Well I knocked on my neighbours door, she hadn’t read the note as was still on the doormat and I apologised and asked for it back she didn’t ask to read it, and just had a reasonable conversation with her about it, went much better than expected tbh so maybe do that?

Someone else has just shouted at them to shut up 😅

We live in a really quiet area. As in, usually nothing after about 9pm. I just think it’s really inconsiderate to have a full blown karaoke going, outdoors, at 11:30 at night. Do it inside or, preferably, at a karaoke bar. Every time it sounds like it’s stopped they put on another song and get louder somehow.

Really selfish behaviour. Yes go to a bar - don't inflict this noise on the whole street. Shouldn't even be a one off.

TheQuietLurker · 20/07/2026 11:43

Sadly, unless you live in the middle of nowhere or have exceptionally boring / quiet neighbours all year round, the odd noisy night is going to happen. I feel YABU if they are generally quiet neighbours most of the time. Some people deal with this weekly! That’s when it’s a problem.

Hildegard25 · 20/07/2026 18:57

No good going round now.
You'd just get drunken abuse, and like you said they'd just turn it up even louder.

Tomorrow with like minded neighbours is the time to vent your spleen.
