Neighbours having a karaoke party

The neighbours directly behind us have been having a karaoke party since about 6pm. It’s been fine up until now, and it’s suddenly ramped up a notch and they’re drunkenly screaming. We can hear it with the window closed, but it’s too hot to have the window closed anyway!

My partner has just had surgery and we both hoped to get some decent sleep tonight but it’s not going to happen now, is it?!

Every so often the microphone screeches with feedback too. AIBU to go around and say something?

Seriously, there is no sun from about nine pm to three am, and deserts are inhospitable enviroments which is why they are lightly populated.

I’d really like for you to have the week I’ve had. My partner is recovering from major surgery and is in agony. I’ve not slept more than two or three hours a night in the last week. I’ve been working on top of that and looking after him. Last night his pain seemed better controlled so we hoped we’d get some more sleep, just to be met by that.

But yes, I should move to the countryside!

England match, Saturday night … more than once I’d complain but it’s one crazy night (that hopefully won’t happen for a long time!!)

So everyone should relocate to accommodate the ignorant and inconsiderate? No, its those who enjoy making a racket that should move to the desert!
If we get so little chance to enjoy our gardens, which has been considerably greater than just one week this summer, the opportunity to enjoy the warm nights is for the many not just the one thoughtless set of neighbours!

I'm still a party animal but these wankers are a pita and turned it up on purpose to piss people off.
There are some selfish twats responding to OP on here having said that saying it's okay. It really isn't when the volume is deliberately increased and caterwauling.

That is the usual motonic response that is so popular on MN. There are a lot of incredibly thick posters who think that is actually feasible.

Sounds like a tough week OP but your neighbours most likely weren't aware of that. If they are usually quiet then I would count my blessings it was a one off.

I ger that it was annoying as you were both suffering from a lack of sleep but I think you need to rationalise it that its an unusual occurrence!

Karaoke in the garden is selfish, horrible neighbours. By all means in the house.

Neighbours probably wouldn't have given a toss had they known. They were ramping up the volume after other neighbours complained.

That would have driven me wild last night. Like midnight is late enough but 3am??? Who does that.

We used to live in a housing estate and I couldn’t bare it. Drunk people walking past shouting at the weekends!

We moved out to the country and have never been back - now the birds wake us up. Which sounds lovely but it’s not. There’s a demented crow going caaw caaw caaw - and he has a microphone too I think! I wonder if he knows any tuna turner….

So it turns out there’s noise everywhere. How long do crows live….?!

I love my sleep and have to wake up very early when I do day shifts but even I wouldn’t mind this as a one off.

If they were nuisance neighbours then I’d be annoyed but it sounds like they were having a one off celebration and life is for living.

You don’t say you have young kids, so I’m not sure why you’ve only had 6 hours of sleep over the past few days - surely you can just go bed earlier or nap during the day.

(And the one person listening to music at the beach was selfish because she could have easily just put headphones in. It’s very different than doing karaoke in your own home. It would be like having a phone call on loud speaker on a busy train vs in your own garden - people still may be able to hear it but it’s different).

As I’ve explained. I’ve had less sleep because my partner is recovering from major surgery. I’ve had to work as normal (self employed) because life doesn’t just stop, I’ve had to look after him on top of everything else.

It’s so much worse to have a screaming karaoke party in your garden at midnight than it is to sit on a beach with some quiet music playing at 7pm, and I’ll stand by that. It’s fucking selfish to do that to your neighbours.

Really don't understand why someone's right to disrupt an entire street is more valid than someone else's right to peace and sleep. Doesn't matter whether its a one off or not. You can still have a party and be considerate of your neighbours.

Thank you. My SIL has offered to come over and be with my partner today so that I can go to hers and get some rest, but I feel awful as she has an eight week old! Her husband has also offered but, again, they have a baby! He’s really unsteady on his feet so he can’t really be alone for any extended period of time

I just had a chat with my next door neighbour as I was taking in the food shop. Apparently around 3:15 someone went down and knocked on the door to ask them to shut up. They refused, got lairy and the police were called.

Not just me who was angry!

They sound awful! Getting carried away after a few drinks is one thing, but turning the volume up after repeated complaints and getting lairy is seriously shitty behaviour.

11:30 to midnight is still unacceptable, no matter the day. Other people were also angry at that time!
