Neighbours having a karaoke party

The neighbours directly behind us have been having a karaoke party since about 6pm. It’s been fine up until now, and it’s suddenly ramped up a notch and they’re drunkenly screaming. We can hear it with the window closed, but it’s too hot to have the window closed anyway!

My partner has just had surgery and we both hoped to get some decent sleep tonight but it’s not going to happen now, is it?!

Every so often the microphone screeches with feedback too. AIBU to go around and say something?

Are you having a laugh? This isn't a BBQ in the garden. They are screeching for 6 hours they're lucky nobody has put their hose on the speaker.

I think eventually around 3-ish. We did manage to drift off, after my SIL (god bless her) brought some ear plugs around. But my partner is on a strict two hour medication routine so we were up an hour later. It was quiet when we woke up at 3:45

I find it really strange that people say this, but if I were to sit out in my garden with my music playing people would say I am BU because people deserve quiet enjoyment of their gardens?

It doesn't matter if it was once in a century. You cannot behave like that. That's what venue hire is for.

I always think that! If you want a full on party with amps etc. you need to hire a venue.

Yeah this is what gets me. It started at six, went on till 3 in the morning. Why wouldn’t you just hire a venue?

If op had posted that she was having a drunken karaoke session in the garden at 11pm and her neighbours were complaining she would have been torn to shreds on here.

If you post that you're being kept awake by drunken neighbours you're told to calm down and put some earplugs in. Basically whatever you post you're the one in the wrong 🤷‍♀️

I was just thinking this. I remember I saw a post on here about someone who wanted to listen to music on the beach (at 7pm!) and was told she was selfish, ruining other people’s experience of the beach etc etc.

Yet I’m in the wrong for wanting some sleep at midnight?!

I agree with this too. Some of my neighbours are doing similar. It’s Saturday night and not mega late.

When our neighbours did this a few years ago, DH went out and mowed at 7am, starting closest to their house. He really revved the old mower too! They came out swearing but went inside pretty quickly. (Yes, early, but it's often 25 degrees by 6am here in summer so no one complains as they all do it.)

Thankfully they were renters & other side neighbour was pals with the owner. So were evicted!! The dad wasn't happy as he worked away & his teen sons were there alone.... What did he expect, really?

I think this sort of thing should be reserved for those living in the middle of nowhere.

It never fails to amaze me that people can be so selfish nowadays. I would hate loud music and karaoke going on so long outside and so late. Why are people so inconsiderate these days?

Contrast this with some neighbours down our road who brought a note to all houses in the vicinity advising that they were having a wedding reception in their garden, guests were fully aware that it would finish at 11pm, had been told not to park inconsiderately and they also left a number to contact them if there were any problems at all. Nobody minded at all as these neighbours had been so considerate to us all.

Seriously you probably get one week of sun in the UK let people enjoy themselves and quit being the fun police you want quiet go live in the desert 😂

Why does fun have to involve making a lot of noise and keeping people awake all night? The problem isn’t people having fun, it’s people making excessive noise.

Anything with a speaker should be indoors before people are likely to want to be going to bed, especially in the summer when people are going to want their windows open.

Give over! I love to hear the hustle and bustle of people out in their gardens enjoying the sun! People like OP should move to the countryside if they are so noise sensitive.

I remember neighbours once doing this until 3am. As I left for work at 7am I leant on the doorbell until they answered to discuss with them whether this would be a regular occurrence. It was very satisfying 😂

Totally agree. People always say on here to move rural if you want quiet. I don’t think (most) people expect quiet - but don’t want screeching and screaming and music as their summer soundtrack either.

I’d be really interested to see a Venn diagram comparing people who play loud music at anti-social times or without headphones, litter droppers & pavement cyclists.

It’s been sunny and hot here since the end of May. Today is the first cloudy day in nearly two months.

It’s not okay to have a karaoke party until 3am.
