AIBU to think 'Beauty and the Beast' is utterly inappropriate for a first dance?

AIBU to say that 'Beauty and the Beast' is entirely inappropriate for a 'first dance' wedding song?! A connection of mine is keen to have it as hers. I hurt her feelings by exclaiming 'You can't!' But really, Am I Being Unreasonable to think it's a huge no-no?

YABU to try to dictate what song a “connection of yours” has at her wedding.

It entirely depends what you want your ‘first dance’ to be about I guess. If you want people to analyse the lyrics and see the song as being representative of your relationship as a whole then it’s probably not the best choice.
We chose Mr Brightside as it was my brother’s favourite song and he’d been murdered 6 months previously. It was our way of incorporating his memory into the proceedings. It also got everyone dancing and having fun!

Music is music, it means different things to different people, it doesn't have to be the words, it could be the tune, or it was playing at certain moments in their relationship, or maybe they are just massive Disney fans. Who cares?

What the hell has this got to do with you? People can dance to whatever they want. The point is that it means something to the couple. It’s not about what the guests deem appropriate.

Also, everyone knows the Beast is objectively way hotter as the Beast than he is as a prince. Much manlier. Much more charismatic.

Of course… to a point. This song is titled “Beauty and the BEAST” 😂 Even if you first had sex while watching the Disney movie and will forever equate it with that special moment (ok that would be weird anyway!) … surely you’d pay attention to the title?!

2 - ‘beast’ is the only word in lyrics that would be anything and it’s all about interpretation. Says more about you I think than them and the song

Not really. I had a ceilidh at my wedding and my first dance was just a ceilidh waltz of some description. It didn't really have any particular meaning. Not everyone cares about stuff like this at their wedding.

My friend went to a wedding where Baddadan by Chase n Status was the 1st dance. " Good on them" was my thought...apparently it was great!

Nothing wrong with it. And honestly, even 'Smack My Bitch Up' would give me a laugh – I'd assume there must be a good story behind it for the bride and groom to choose it!

We didn't have a first dance but we had the acoustic version of Everlong going down the aisle, because we liked it. Although if we were getting married now, I might choose 'Romantic Flight' by John Powell. It's such a lovely piece.
