AIBU to think 'Beauty and the Beast' is utterly inappropriate for a first dance?

AIBU to say that 'Beauty and the Beast' is entirely inappropriate for a 'first dance' wedding song?! A connection of mine is keen to have it as hers. I hurt her feelings by exclaiming 'You can't!' But really, Am I Being Unreasonable to think it's a huge no-no?

Is the groom, err, unusual looking?

Supersleepysheepy · 18/07/2026 19:31

I don't understand why it would be a problem if they love it?!

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 18/07/2026 19:31

Maybe he's a beast in bed?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 18/07/2026 19:31

The lyrics are reasonably romantic

Pyjamatimenow · 18/07/2026 19:32

Bizarre

hahabahbag · 18/07/2026 19:33

As long as the groom is ok with it, to eaches own

Cooshawn · 18/07/2026 19:33

There's no such thing as a song being inappropriate for a first dance as everyone attributes their own meaning to songs, they're significant because they're attached to memories or people etc.

Hatty65 · 18/07/2026 19:33

I couldn't be less interested in what someone thought was 'their' song and chose for a first dance.

Why would you even have an opinion?

oviraptor21 · 18/07/2026 19:33

Maybe she calls him "beast" as a term of endearment. Or 101 other possibilities. It's a lovely song so I hope they enjoy dancing to it.

It's better than nothing compares to you or I will always love you which are incredibly common first dance songs about relationships ending...

Cooshawn · 18/07/2026 19:35

Also, it's always refreshing to hear something different.

AlbieJiggered · 18/07/2026 19:36

How about 'You can go your own way'?

Summerishere123 · 18/07/2026 19:40

I went to one where the bride walked down the isle to the Jurassic Park Theme Tune.

I should have said I approved! It was awesome!

Catdoorman · 18/07/2026 19:43

Maybe it's a joke between the Bride and groom, my husband and I didn't have a first dance song, partly because he won't dance, we were older when we married and didn't want a fuss, and our "special" song, is the incidental music from carry on screaming.

OwlCalledSage · 18/07/2026 19:47

Everyone will snigger. A song from Disney is embarrassing enough, but this one is just silly.

Or Every Breath You Take Grin

Dh and I walked out of our ceremony to It's the end of the world as we know it. We had great fun sneaking inappropriate songs into our playlist for the day too, I think it's brilliant

Gardenisablooming · 18/07/2026 19:51

We had the Hokey Cokey!

DavidStopActingLikeADisgruntledPelican · 18/07/2026 19:53

I know someone who wanted to dance to this at their wedding! She was 4 at the time though and had announced she was going to marry my son (also 4).

FWIW I love beauty and the beast- at least the animated one that came out in the 90s but doubt I’d want it for my first dance. To each their own I suppose.

2026letsgo · 18/07/2026 19:53

Why is it inappropriate? Apart from being cheesy Disney crap.

MyThreeWords · 18/07/2026 19:55

Not your business. Not a big deal.

TheGirlWhoLived · 18/07/2026 19:56

Is it the Tale as Old as Time song? It’s a love song isn’t it!?

Bonkers1966 · 18/07/2026 19:56

Tale as old as time.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 18/07/2026 19:58

Apology from you and tell her you overstepped is appropriate I’d say
