AIBU to think 'Beauty and the Beast' is utterly inappropriate for a first dance?

AIBU to say that 'Beauty and the Beast' is entirely inappropriate for a 'first dance' wedding song?! A connection of mine is keen to have it as hers. I hurt her feelings by exclaiming 'You can't!' But really, Am I Being Unreasonable to think it's a huge no-no?

It's like an ode to Stockholm Syndrome.

The lyrics to tale as old as time are fine. Having Disney music isn’t my cup of tea but it’s fairly normal with those who are adult Disney fans.

Even if you’re objecting to the Groom being likened to the Beast, it’s a story about looking past the physical appearance to get to know the person underneath. It’s about not being a superficial person (the prince who is cursed to be the beast), which seems fitting given you’re judging this couple for no other reason than it doesn’t fit your personal aesthetic.

My brother and SIL had this as their first dance. It was a little difficult to fathom and people did look a bit confused!

We got married in Disney World, at the wedding pavilion. A couple of decades ago.

We had Beauty and the Beast on our wedding video (vhs) and had our first dance to I know you, I danced with you once upon a dream. It was a solo violinist that played this at the reception on the balcony at the Floridian. We had hired Citricos private dining room for our meal. Some may see it as tacky, I don't care, we had a great time and I also had Cinderellas carriage and horsemen too.

why? I had that while walking down the aisle and be our guest as food was served. its not cringe at all or Stockholm syndrome or other bollocks that people use, its what the bride and groom want. personally I find those that need to run to social media etc to slag off the bride and groom are insecure and jealous about their own wedding and can't cope with the fact that others have different ideas about what to do

Personally, I find the whole concept of a First Dance very cheesy and it's not something that I would ever do myself, but if a couple want to have a First Dance then it should be to a song that means something to them, whatever that song might be.

The original, animated Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films. Belle is much more interesting than some of the earlier drippy princesses and the romance is more real.
