To be sick to death of Andy Burnham already

Viviennemary · 17/07/2026 20:57

I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

That would be ludicrous and I really do hope this culture dominated by media flux and fleeting attention spans of the public comes to an end.

It’s Labour MPs who have pushed for this current change.

You do know that austerity came about following the Blair/ Brown years of Spend Spend Spend / putting everyone in the country on benefits, don't you?

Brexit would never have happened had Tony Blair not opened the doors to the entirety of Eastern Europe as soon as they joined the EU, while all the other EU countries said they could wait.

Cause and effect.

What do you think is going to happen after this shit-show?

Oh yes, the Investment Bankers had nothing to do with it.....

If she didn't have a decent role lined up she would have run for Leadership. LBC are saying she is going to be Health Secretary.

Oh. Is LBC in charge of appointing the Cabinet now?

It's easier to blame the media and political opponents than look inwards.

Yes but let's not pretend that the media didn't play it's part along with the current appetite from the public for these media spectacles leading no time for substantive change.

The 200 plus Labour MPs canvassing in Makerfield for Burnham not Labour, the mass-selfie all grinning, the 300 plus nominations. They’ll have to take this one.

Starmer constantly blaming others was another reason he was ousted.

I think it's something that's a societal problem - our lack of attention span. This is one of the unintended consequences. I think we should all want to change this and start reading books again. Start engaging our brains again and certainly not rely on AI or as AI is a marketing term, Algorithmic extrapolation to do your thinking for you. This is always going to be bad news for humans as 'thinking' is important!

BrandiedAromatics · 19/07/2026 10:56

I think the Burnham set think there is too much power in the Treasury. This is the core of their political ideology. Think the defence ministers' resignations. They won't have enough time to make a significant change in this parliament. So they will have to prioritise winning the next GE first so that they can facilitate this shift.

What, so when Sky or BBC report on things and say that sources say something you think Sky and the BBC are actually responsible for whatever is being shared?

You aren't familiar with the media having sources and journalism in general?

Biker47 · 19/07/2026 11:05

Didn't Burnham say the likes of Truss and Sunak didn't have mandate to do anything outside of their election manifesto's, I'm assuming he's now ok with mandating stuff outside of their last election manifesto? Otherwise he would be calling an immediate general election, would he not? Lefties, if they didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all.

Yes of course LBC will have their sources.

Yep all that sniggering and it misses this.

The tide goes out and we will all be able to see that Burnham has no kit on…

CagneyLacey · 19/07/2026 11:20

In any event, according to a number of ‘punters’ on MN, Starmer was forced out, in no small part owing to the ‘right wing media’.

Logical to therefore assume that Andy Nomandate will also be forced out by the same media.

Absolutely zero correlation with his policies etc.

Burnham in 2022.

“We need to start demanding a General Election at the end of this Tory leadership election. They were all elected on a manifesto promise to level up the North and are all abandoning it.”

“Only one possible response to #itvdebate … We need a General Election.”
“#GeneralElectionNow”

Oh dear oh dear.

The bloke is a cypher, a naught, the nothingness beyond the event horizon.

As other posters have said, and far more pithily, Burnham’s northern schtick and ‘feel good’ vibes will only carry him so far - eventually the rubber has to make contact with the road.
