To ask why the England team (the men) keep falling at the final hurdle, (well virtually at the final hurdle,) at the football World Cup ... and The Euros too?

Not an England-team bashing thread, but why, oh WHY do they - the men - keep falling at the final hurdle (well, virtually the final hurdle,) every time at the football (soccer) World Cup - and the Euro Cup too...?

They do so well, and get so far, and then BANG they're out. Nearly always in the top 8, or top 4, (and the top 2, in the World Cup once, and a couple of times in the Euros I think,) but never the winner. (Not since 1966 anyway!)

Is it nerves? Is it that they're so anxious to win that they keep making silly mistakes? Are they just not quite good enough? WHAT IS IT? Why do they keep getting so close, but just never manage to get the win?!

As I said, I am not bashing them, and they did well, and I am proud of them, but I just get so frustrated that they can't quite ever get the win!

If you're in the semis you're enough to win. I'm no footie expert but even I can see a lot of it comes down to luck as well as technique. It's not rocket science. France didn't get through, they were good enough to win too.

Did you support England out of interest?

I think in a lot of South American countries, the so called "Dark Arts"/ gamesmanship and pushing the rules to the limits are viewed in a different way than they are in Europe - as part of the game and a legitimate strategy to win rather than something to be abhorred.

Funnily enough I think the European game is increasingly becoming about gamesmanship - probably largely due to the financial stakes involved.

Yes but this is an international competition so should be played to global rules. There are cameras everywhere. The ref. could have been informed about the barging off the ball by the fourth official or the VAR team, some of it happened in front of the ref. They should have had a warning and then been booked for the next offence. Guess what team’s player was booked first???

I loathe the dark arts in English football too. Unfortunately they tend to benefit the bigger clubs who tend to get the balance of the decisions so there’s no incentive to crack down on it.

In addition to the clip posted re Jude being the only one to stop and talk to the disabled journalist I've since seen endless clips of him offering/ giving his blankets and jackets up to the children he's been assigned and constant interaction with them. .he is extremely engaged and sees them.

I do wonder, deep down, if these Non English managers deliberately stop England from winning. Tuchel is bloody German. Why would he have the best interests of the England team at heart?

Decisons have to be consistent. Can one referee really see all the fouls and make honest desicons with so many hits and kicks coming thick and fast?

Surely it's all about the money and the potential success. If there was any loyalty involved there wouldn't be any argies playing in English premier teams.

I couldn't give 2 boots who wins to be honest 😂 I actually really dislike football. I find the level of buying into the hysteria quite mad. I wouldn't even have known who was playing if it wasn't for posts online.

What has been interesting is some of the lovely stuff I've seen like Norway's rowing and Scotland putting cones on statues, noone else who has lost seems to be such sore losers as the England team. As I say I'm just going by online coverage but it has been amusing.

I find the way some people react to other team's progress nuts too when their own team couldnt get out of the group stages. Did you see many scots supporting the argies for example? Nothing 'lovely' about that.
