To think this is a step too far from the SNP?

The SNP have released a statement today saying they are “raising a glass” to Argentina.

Now I understand the whole football thing, anyone but England etc.

But Argentina killed Scottish troops in 1982. It’s too much.

They speak Welsh in parts of Patagonia so we have that in common with them.

It also shows the intellect levels of the management.

It was worse in Scotland because there were no laws protecting the tenants. There was a social understanding going back centuries that clan members had the right to rent land from the clan leaders/live on the clan lands. But this was never codified in law so when they wanted they just kicked them off. Such a huge betrayal, but it tells you something about class solidarity amongst the wealthy whilst the less wealthy divide themselves into different groups/clans/tribes.

It just comes across as a mass inferiority complex, it’s quite cringe worthy.

I don't mind the whole ABE thing from Scottish people. Usually it's banter and it's fine and no-one has to support the team
It is weird when it's a political party though. Especially when the independence movement has been smeared (usually unfairly) at times for being anti-English when you will get pro-independance Scottish people going to great lengths to explain this isn't true wanting independence isn't about hating the English, it's about Scotland. But then the SNP puts out stuff like that and it somewhat undermines the argument and makes them look a bit childish, and weirdly obsessed.

Although it's by far not the most childish thing to happen in British politics over the last decade.

I think the problem is Scotland doesn’t have anything to boast about since the BE unwound which is why you get the SNP, ABE, the baseless hostility and these strange ‘we’re the best at watching football’ or French waiters like us more than you . If it was a person, it would be classed as low self esteem and an inferiority complex. The issue is Scotland benefited proportionally more from the British Empire and general European colonialism than any other European state so the decline has been incredibly steep and this manifests in quite a toxic way.

Just chipping in to say not all Scottish people. Not all/most Scottish people. My Scottish side of the family are lovely.
I agree though that there's a side and I think it's exacerbated by a certain reluctance (among some) to admit the Scottish were involved in colonialism and the beneficiaries of the British Empire at all. You absolutely get English people like that as well, comparing the Norman invasions/vikings to something that only ended in the 20th century). I get people don't want to be constantly told they are evil because of something that happened before they were born. In Scotland that expresses itself as a "we were victims of English colonialism too" resentment which then is worsened by the fact that, as you said, Scotland has been harder hit in some ways by the loss of the empire than other places. And it's hard to explain that if you believe yourself to be the victim not the beneficiary.

(And I don't mean there should be endless national self flagellation or performative guilt. But I think being aware of your countries history, light and dark, is a vaccine against sliding into the sort of angry grievance culture you see over the pond with MAGA)

Surely some of them must feel embarrassed having supported the cheating, fouling little rats of Argentina who are now loathed worldwide, surely?

Or does their loathing of England run so deep they'd rather cheer on wankers like Enzo Fernandez? I wonder if it's the fact that England aren't entitled arseholes, are actually brilliant role models and also quite good that gets their goat. Just envy pure and simple?

Such sour grapes, there will be some who double down on the Argentina support rather than admit what awful behaviour was demonstrated by them.

The England team have conducted themselves brilliantly, and got my support.
