Thats ridiculous. If you work your kids can't have a paddling pool filled with the hose, but if your sat at home all day and dont work, your kids can soak each other all day. Absurd and im not including disabled or those that can't work in my opinion.

angelos02 · 14/07/2026 14:23

Nothing this government does surprises me anymore. Everything they do seems to be against people that work! Unless you need more water for medical equipment - that is the only reason I can fathom. Why does someone have more right to fill a paddling pool or water their garden than anyone else? I literally can't think of a reason.

The government doesn’t impose hosepipe bans, nor does it say who they apply to.

Some water companies have exemptions for those on benefits. Others don’t.

Vaxtable · 14/07/2026 14:24

Don’t we do ridiculous. There are some exceptions depending on water companies for some on priority lists or watersure. But it’s not a blanket if you are on benefits you are exempt

I suggest you do a bit off googling before you make such a silly comment

Weneverspokeofitagain · 14/07/2026 14:25

YABU - you have no idea of my situation. My kids like to go in our above ground pool after school. They splash a lot and stand on the edge so it needs topping up most days. But why shouldn't we get to have fun just because of a few grumpy neighbours.

Backedoffhackedoff · 14/07/2026 14:25

It’s people on the watersure tariff isn’t it? It’s not the same as people on benefits

The water companies are private entities. It is their choice to do this, not the government's

angelos02 · 14/07/2026 14:25

OK - if it isn't the government imposing this nonsense, apologies, I didn't realise. Can someone answer the question - what condition requires a watered garden or a filled paddling pool over someone else?

Honestly people read a headline and instantly believe it, its embarrassing how gullible some adults are. Instead of actually reading the details

RudolphTheReindeer · 14/07/2026 14:27

It's not though is it why are you shit stirring?

Ablondiebutagoody · 14/07/2026 14:28

Your job is to pay for their cushy lifestyle and keep your mouth shut. Anything else is at best unkind, at worst fascist.

HeyThereDelila · 14/07/2026 14:28

Where’s your evidence for this? Our hosepipe ban is for everyone.

Pinkfluffyunicornsdancingonrainbows28 · 14/07/2026 14:29

It's not for everyone on benefits is it? We are exempt from the ban but that's because my ds is disabled. We have a lazy spa because he can't go swimming.

Some posters will latch on to any excuse to attack people in receipt of benefits. Perhaps because @Crosorbled and their ilk see them as sub-human.

I don't think it is that. It is when odd decisions seem to be being made all the while people's tax (fiscal drag) is going up and they are struggling themselves. For example, free childcare for people that don't work.

I think two of the water companies have the arrangement in place, so not every water company. I am not completely certain, though.

You think parents of children with disabilities have a cushy lifestyle ?

That doesn't make you just unkind. I'd get deleted if I said what it does make you though.

ohtowinthelottery · 14/07/2026 14:33

When my DD was alive we were on the Watersure scheme as she had a condition which required us to use more water. That mainly related to bathing and additional washing though. I wouldn't have dreamt of watering the garden or washing the car with the hosepipe if there was a ban. Anyone who does is taking the p*ss.

It’s a water company. It’s got nothing to do with your tax

But it is nothing to do with tax or the government or indeed people on benefits. It is the decision of the privatised water companies. Ire should be directed at them. Not all of them have even adopted this policy.

Shh! Stop letting facts get in the way of a good benefits bash!

Backedoffhackedoff · 14/07/2026 14:37

I’m actually laughing at people being jealous of disabled children because they get to USE THEIR HOSEPIPE

you couldn’t fucking make it up
