AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

AIvSC · 12/07/2026 21:45

Against my better judgement I agreed to a group holiday. Mixture of family and friends all know each other well. All have children ranging from baby-16

My BIL organised it but we all booked separately.

He sent a link to an all inclusive resort and that's what I and half of the group booked.

BIL and the half booked the same hotel but self catering.

It was £600 more for AI- which as we are here for 8 days works out as less than £20 per person per day (four of us)

First night was fine as we all went out for dinner but today has been hell.

We have had a pool day and my kids have been able to get snacks/drinks/etc as they like but to purchase it all is quite expensive.

We've just come back from dinner- which was 'free' for us but not for them and were told it wasn't fair if our kids used the AI.

I asked why they didn't book the AI and they said they didn't like AI- but they were at dinner having the same food as us.

I don't want to be say to our kids that they can't use the AI but equally don't want to fall out. I enquired how much it would cost to upgrade to AI and it was 2200€ per family.

Just because you haven't been warned, doesn't mean it is acceptable.

I can categorically tell you that giving drinks from AI to those who aren't AI has resulted in people being being thrown out.

It is viewed as theft of services and you can be escorted off the premises.

I assume you are speaking as a guest who did this. I am 20 years in the industry and we have zero tolerance for anyone passing food and/or drinks to non-paying guests.

Stop chatting shit.

And in your 20 years, do you think you’ve caught everybody That’s done it because I don’t.
Maybe the odd one, but I doubt you’ve even managed that

You probably are right but I was caught in the headlights and didn't know what to say.

Had I read this thread I think I would have said. 'don't be ridiculous you fucknugget' 😂

I think this morning I would just act surprised he’s being serious “thought you were joking “

Hang on, am I understanding this correctly? Despite your whole family being AI, they want your kids (i.e. you) to pay for anything your kids consume/order? I’ve never heard of anything so absurd. They can bugger right off.

pictoosh · Yesterday 08:50

This stems from anxiety over spending of course. Your bil has lost perspective.

"I've thought about what you said and I'm not going to stop the kids going for drinks. I've paid for AI so we're going to use it. It would be silly not to."

He might sulk.

Holidaying with other families can be fraught with stress.

Are your kids not getting stuff from the all-inclusive for everybody? Is that the problem? They’re just getting it from themselves and then everybody else is kind of having to pay because every all-inclusive resort I’ve ever been to? I could’ve got drinks for the entire place and nobody would’ve batted an eyelid they don’t check to see how many you’re having or who you’re giving them to.
Would it hurt for you to let their kids have an ice cream or a drink?

If they want their kids to have access to AI, they need to pay for it just like OP had to.

On this occasion I’d be seeing if your kids can get some food and the treats available for their kids so they don’t miss out. Perhaps they assumed you’d be going out for meals and things so thought it wasn’t necessary. They should have discussed it but different people do different things on holiday. They will have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

You want her to tell her kids to steal stuff for other kids because their parents didnt pay for it?
Are you serious?

allthingsinmoderation · Yesterday 08:52

I cannot believe what i am reading here, its absolutely ridiculous.
Lets just say ,you booked half board for your family and your friends booked bed and breakfast, would it be reasonable for the friends to say :your children should not have dinner because they didnt book half board for their children and thats not fair?
I would tell them you booked AI for you and your children so ofcourse they will use it.
I would suggest ,they ask the hotel if its possible to add AI to their booking if they are regretting not booking it.

No. He wants for OP's kids not to fetch drinks, water, slushies when they want and to wait until he is willing to pay for the same for his kids.

I mean yes that’s the ideal scenario but Plan B would be for her children to just give them the odd slushy. It wouldn’t kill them.

Nousernameideaaga · Yesterday 08:56

Wot?

You paid all inclusive for your family

They didn’t

Now they don’t want your kids to eat snacks and drinks etc because it’s costing too much for them to buy them for their own kids?

Is that correct?

If so - are they stupid?

Sorry Bob, I've thought about it and that doesn't work for us. However, there's a supermarket in ... and you can get there on the ... bus that leaves at ...

You are missing the point. It is forbidden.

It is also being cracked down upon because there is an awareness of cheeky chancers who do this among their own booking/party.

It is theft, plain and simple.

Attitudes like yours really piss me off. Not only going AI in a foreign country, reliant on tourism, but then exploiting the fact that the overworked staff cannot possibly keep track of what drink/food item is going where.

But in my experience, it is a certain type that does this. I would take pleasure in slinging them out.

Oh my god, no it’s not forbidden is it?

Call the police 🙀

tread carefully if i was you because the certain type that you are snitching on is also the type that might knock your teeth out

It is clear you view AI as a free for all. Doesn't make you any less of a thief.

I just can’t get excited about a kid having an extra bit of frozen water for free as opposed to the actual theft of charging a fiver for it

I guess this is why some people are thieves and some people are not.

TheCurious0range · Yesterday 09:11

To be honest we are often out some days and some evenings on holiday but since we had DS we book AI regardless, it's worth it for the faint fucks, snacks, lunches when you are in resort as it often works out good value compared to paying. We used to do SC pre DC or breakfast only but never spent the day at the hotel , children love pool days! YANBU

I know right? Even on 100% profit they’d be making a fortune if they charge a pound for the frozen water but no they decide to steal from hard-working families held captive on site for holidays.
Bastards

Wheresthebeach · Yesterday 09:15

How unbelievably selfish of him. Tell him this is why you booked AI and your kids will use it as they want. Nobody gets to police their drinks etc. he needs to pay for his kids drinks without complaint. Jeeze.

The what now? 😁

What she’s saying is, she pays for all inclusive and sometimes she uses it and sometimes she doesn’t
So for the Hotel concerned it would be swings roundabouts on the one hand we have this poster who was paid for all inclusive and isn’t using it
And then on the other hand we have the original poster who could use some of the unused product paid for by this lady to give her brother-in-law’s kid some frozen water
It’s fucking genius !

Omg I almost died laughing 🤣🤣

plus I can’t work out what poster actually meant.

and if they actually meant it , what is a faint fuck?

were you at the same place at the same time as the OP is? Brcause if you are not then your experience is irrelevant.

Why would you do anything other than ignore them, perhaps laugh and then continue using the facilities you paid for? YABU for even giving them a moment of your headspace
