AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

Against my better judgement I agreed to a group holiday. Mixture of family and friends all know each other well. All have children ranging from baby-16

My BIL organised it but we all booked separately.

He sent a link to an all inclusive resort and that's what I and half of the group booked.

BIL and the half booked the same hotel but self catering.

It was £600 more for AI- which as we are here for 8 days works out as less than £20 per person per day (four of us)

First night was fine as we all went out for dinner but today has been hell.

We have had a pool day and my kids have been able to get snacks/drinks/etc as they like but to purchase it all is quite expensive.

We've just come back from dinner- which was 'free' for us but not for them and were told it wasn't fair if our kids used the AI.

I asked why they didn't book the AI and they said they didn't like AI- but they were at dinner having the same food as us.

I don't want to be say to our kids that they can't use the AI but equally don't want to fall out. I enquired how much it would cost to upgrade to AI and it was 2200€ per family.

It remind him that you paid in advance for all the food and drink. They chose to pag as they go. Nobody is getting anything for free.

Yes, this. How old are these people and do they not understand how hotels work??

The best bit about AI with teens is so that can get what they want to eat and drink whenever they want. I much prefer paying up front for the convenience alone!

So, teaching your kids to cheat?

And the quickest way to be booted out and lose your vacation.

IDrinkTeaAllTheTime · Yesterday 05:47

Are they generally a bit dim or just very entitled? Surely they understand that you’ve paid for A.I and have basically pre-paid for your meals, but they haven’t. I would honestly tell them to piss off and stop being so ridiculous. No way would I stop my kids eating something that I’d paid for.

I knew that’d get some holier than thou comments. The world won’t end because some kids got some extra drinks or chips at a location built on western excess and gluttony.

So it's okay to steal extra treats and give them to people who didn't pay.
Of course, it's probably also "okay" if and when they get caught, get booted out of the hotel and lose not only their AI, but the rest of their vacation.

Don't be such a doofus.

If they are self catering, they need to get down the supermarket and stock up their fridges with drinks and snacls for their kids

simples

On this occasion I’d be seeing if your kids can get some food and the treats available for their kids so they don’t miss out. Perhaps they assumed you’d be going out for meals and things so thought it wasn’t necessary. They should have discussed it but different people do different things on holiday. They will have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Please don’t do this.

Op dont be ridiculous, just stand up for yourself , say you've paid and that is the end of the matter.

pouletvous · Yesterday 05:53

Group holidays have never appealed to me

Tamtim · Yesterday 05:54

What a self entitled so and so. You are your own people and you chose the sensible option. Do not limit your kids or yourselves. Your BIL needs to sort his own issues out. What a thing to ask.

I agree, the quality of the food and drink used at these AI resorts is normally such low quality anyway. Ive been to resorts where the bar staff have given my DS a AI wristband so he can get ice creams and drinks all day 🤣

comealongdobbeh · Yesterday 06:05

what does DH think of the mad request?

pls come back with an update once youve given them your answer 🤣

Er, yes. That’s how it works at an all inclusive.
Stealing isn’t ok though.

GoldenishFish · Yesterday 06:22

They realized they made a mistake but instead of paying (quite literally) for that or just dealing with it they chose to take it out on you for whatever reason. YANBU, your kids use what was paid for, if someone else decided to opt out its on them, not you!

LightlyRoamingOcelots · Yesterday 06:24

Do mot under any circumstances let your children try to sneak AI drinks and snacks to the nonAI kids. Make sure your kids understand that breaking the AI rules like that could get the whole family sent home early.

The absolute maximum you could consider doing is suggesting a daily maximum number of drinks and snacks for your kids purely because it's not good for their teeth or for their health to be chugging back sugary (or chemical-filled sugar free) drinks all day without limits - but you and your family have every right to get value for money from the package you paid for.

Perhaps suggest to BIL that he just upgrades to AI for the number of days they can afford at the end of the holiday ie maybe the last 2 or 3 days so that he can say to his kids they just need to wait till Wednesday/Thursday and they'll be anle to enjoy all the extra drinks and snacks after that?

PinkyFlamingo · Yesterday 06:25

So you have paid for all food and drink and they haven't....and they don't think thats fair? You do realise how mad that sounds?

BlueFahrenheit · Yesterday 06:30

So ... your friends don't want you to eat even though you paid extra?

They should have done the same.

Holidays always bring out the stupidity in people.

I understand how AI works........

Recklessismymiddlename · Yesterday 06:33

It’s not free though, is it? You have already paid for it, in advance. I’d keep repeating that. They had the option to do the same. They didn’t.

BagthorpeSaga · Yesterday 06:38

So half of you are AI and half are self catering?
How many of you are there in the hotel altogether?
What are the thoughts of the others that are AI?
I wonder why the upgrade has gone up so much ?
I suggest a food fight by the sun loungers - AI versus self catering. You’ll win because you’ve got unlimited nosh ….

Spidey66 · Yesterday 06:38

Of course you are not being unreasonable.

as an aside I’m saving up ‘fucknuggets’ as an insult in the future.

Ansjovis · Yesterday 06:40

If your only choices are to stop your kids from using something that has been paid for and they know that they have it or falling out then you should fall out. That's utterly ridiculous of them to request of you.

Alittlewordinyourear · Yesterday 06:40

I think they are being completely ridiculous. Why woukd your family not use a facility they have paid for ? I’d just tell them straight, your kids like all the treats that’s why you chose that option and they will be using it!

Sartre · Yesterday 06:43

It makes total sense to pay for AI, as you say even if you don’t always eat there it still works out way cheaper if you intend on staying in the resort most of the time for drinks and snacks alone! More fool them really for not thinking about it, of course they can’t demand you don’t use what you paid for.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · Yesterday 06:45

they are crazy for not booking it, they are going to spend way more on the difference on the food and drinks.

you booked it so should be able to use it.
