AIBU to not like watching a domestic abuser in the Wimbledon final? I have not heard one comment from the BBC about Zverev’s domestic abuse.

I don't work with young people. Not sure where that came from. I just have a teenage daughter. So I guess your concerns are unfounded 😂

Also racket abuse is extremely common in tennis. You only need to look at the fines just for Wimbledon for example. You can not use this as evidence for how a person acts off the tennis court.

I am a solicitor and I lectured law at a university for 2 years but went back to private practice. I have only ever taught on post-graduate courses so all young people I worked with were adults.

A player has literally been disqualified from Wimbledon this year for smashing her racket so hard it flew i to the public gallery.

Pretty much all top players in history have smashed rackets and had meltdowns at tournaments.

The cases against him were discontinued. The mother of his child is on good terms with him and they co-parent together. He sees his daughter regularly and she appears with him in tournaments a lot. Spreading misinformation about someone based on rumours and snippets in the yellow press is horrible.

As for "white privelege", Zverev may come from a middle-class background, but he was anything but privileged battling diabetes since the age of 4 and having been told he could never compete on a high level because of the dangers to his health and it being impossible to manage. He proved everyone wrong against all odds and works incredibly hard with a very very tough father as coach who certainly didn't mollycoddle him.

And smashing a racquet on the ground is totally different to smashing the chair where someone was sitting!!

Not really sure what your initial post was for tbh. If you feel uncomfortable then don't watch him, simple. The case is closed so I am not sure what you are expecting to happen.

The initial post absolutely captures what’s long people think. I watched the final in a big sports bar and no-one was cheering for him and the fact he likes to choke his girlfriends and is a violent fuck was definitely part of lots of conversations.
he WAS found guilty of committing bodily harm against the mother of his child - under German law penalty orders are issued by the prosecutors office when a trial isn’t considered necessary because there is compelling evidence. HIS penalty order came with a £400k fine.
He then reached an out of court settlement with her which meant legal proceedings were discontinued.
If this was all happening in the U.K. he would have gone to trial, most likely, and gone to prison.

The previous girlfriend there wasn’t enough evidence as it was historic. But I believe her too.

But let’s keep on defending these arseholes because they’re good at sport… as if being able to kick or hit a ball well somehow means you escape punishment for being violent.

He’s not been punished he’s not apologised and he’s not made amends and presumably also hasn’t had any kind of therapy to change his behaviour - as he’s denying it all - so we just have to wait around until he punches or slaps or strangles or controls another woman before he loses status, sponsorship, respect or his freedom.

I do understand how you can hold this view but I know of a woman who suffered serious domestic violence at the hands of her husband. To the outside world, they look amicable, as they attend joint child-related events. He's also had charges dropped by other women he's abused. Things are not always as they seem.

I remember that because it reminded me a lot of Nalbandian (another freaking gem of a man 🙄) kicking the advertising board into the line judges leg but I am shocked to say that until someone posted about Zverev on a different thread yesterday, I had absolutely no idea about his ex girlfriends allegations. But I can't claim I was particularly surprised by them either.
