AIBU to say this isnt true? I’ve heard it said a lot but I don’t think it’s true. What about abusive relationships or people that had a child from casual relationships / ONS. Do you think theres truth to this statement?

IAmTheBloodyGrandma · 06/07/2026 20:22

It's bullshit.

TheFormidableMrsC · 06/07/2026 20:22

I absolutely do not.

Daftapath · 06/07/2026 20:22

Ewww, no!

WillThingsEverBeFergaliciousAgain · 06/07/2026 20:23

Nah, can't stand the absolute bell end.

DameOfThrones · 06/07/2026 20:24

Where have you heard such a ridiculous thing??

And are you asking in all seriousness if you’re being unreasonable to say it isnt true?

Really?

MassOfInterstellarGas · 06/07/2026 20:24

I’ve never heard anyone say this.

Theunamedcat · 06/07/2026 20:26

In their dreams

It’s quite a common saying. I’ve heard it being said lots of times.

I’ve never heard this. Probably because it’s bs, lol.

Octavia64 · 06/07/2026 20:28

lol no

Thankfully I’ve managed 57 years without ever hearing it.

But why do you think you might be unreasonable?

Katemax82 · 06/07/2026 20:30

My husband detests the mother of his other kids. She tried to have him killed so probably feelings mutual

Meadowfinch · 06/07/2026 20:34

Who on earth came up with that one?

It certainly isn't true. I only regard my ds' father with exasperation.

Ds is nearly 18. Soon I won't need to speak to ex or have any contact with him at all. It will be a relief.

notacooldad · 06/07/2026 20:48

You will always love the mother / father of your children”
Try telling that to my sister!
Her sons father hasn't seen him since he was 18 months old. He is now 36
He put my sister through hell and so did his mum and dad.
There has not been any love there since the child was 9 months old and ex pushed her down stairs because ' that fucking thing wont shut up'

Im 61 and never heard it said.
I know some break ups can be amicable and many ex couples can be friendly after tome but never when there has been d.v that has caused a woman to flee her home to save her and her children's life.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 06/07/2026 20:48

No it's rubbish.

He left when I was pregnant because he "changed his mind" and was last seen heading into the sunset, as it were, with a woman he had met online. He's never seen his daughter. I don't know where he is. I've never had a second of help or a penny of maintenance.

I feel something alright but it isn't love.

steff13 · 06/07/2026 20:52

Daftapath · 06/07/2026 20:22

Ewww, no!

My exact reaction. I would feel sad for my children if something happened to him but it would not affect me I don't think at all.

whistlesandbells · 06/07/2026 20:52

I mean if hate is a kind of love then sure… 👍🏻

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 06/07/2026 20:54

What a load of nonsense.
Does it include one night stands and short term relationships?
They never loved each other in the first place.

Mauro711 · 06/07/2026 20:54

I think I have heard something like ”I will always have love for him/her as the father/mother of our children” but not that you always love the father/mother of your children. Some do, many don’t.

It’s quite a common saying. I’ve heard it being said lots of times.

I've heard it too. I think usually referring to couples who were married rather than brief relationships/ONS.

Well they say it’s a fine line but I guess no one’s heard of that either 🤣

From experience, total bollocks

Boobyslims · 06/07/2026 21:03

I voted the wrong way! D’oh!!!! I agree it’s not true and you are not being unreasonable!!

worldshottestmom · 06/07/2026 21:04

God I hate this phase. Never hated somebody so much in my life, and there are a lot of strong contenders. He used to tell me that I would always love him for this reason and it used to and still does make me sick.

Sam, if you're reading this, which I know you probably are, whatever distant love I did have for you never made it back from the moon, and never will. And thank god.

LadyWiddiothethird · 06/07/2026 21:04

Never heard that in my entire lifetime, what rubbish.
