By way of illustration, a female acquaintance whom I have known since university was a big one for this. She's straight and probably of average attractiveness. While at university she'd frequently remark on the absence of men she found attractiv

To think cross gender collective punishment is a thing.

What do you think about the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre?

I think it'll be nice when it's completed 😉

The subject line and text seem to have got mixed up. In addition to what is above, my feeling is that sometimes those who havee felt negarively judged on their own attractiveness like to make vocal judgments about others. It is as if being in the judge's chair means you cannot be the one being judged.

A (possibly); related phenomenon is the summer slew of opinion pieces by female journalists bemoaning the appearance in public of very white British and Irish male limbs. Is this an attempt, conscious or otherwise, to rebalance the scales of attractiveness judging? What seems to be clear is that the people who are appearance-shamed are often not the exact same group of people doing the original negative appearance judging, which is what causes the appearance of collective punishment.

Can you give us a poll?

Yes, that will simplify everything 😬

AmberSpy · 03/07/2026 15:41

I'm going to guess you're not interested in having an actual debate or listening to others' points of view, and instead you just want to sound off about how you feel personally victimised by women having preferences that don't always include you. Unfortunately you couldn't even create a coherent post so I'm just guessing here.

These will do for starters, there are probably more - rules of misogyny.

  1. Women are responsible for what men do.
  2. Women saying no to men is a hate crime.

Millionaire harry whatshisfave has a brass neck demanding funding for hi s security, what a freeloading scum bag.

Like father like son I guess.

If the weather forecast had been more accurate before I hung the washing out, I would have known it was going to piss with rain this afternoon and I would have put the towels and bed linen in the tumble dryer.

Now, I will have to load the washing machine tonight and hang the washing out again tomorrow morning before I go to work.

Hopefully, tomorrow we'll get the sunny spells and light breeze the Met Office promised for today...

Ooh, where are you? My forecast says maximum chance of rain is 7%, at 4am tomorrow morning. Should I put my roof up?

ThatCyanCat · 03/07/2026 15:46

I've heard far more men loudly complaining about the absence of attractive women than women complaining about the absence of attractive men. (Women are more likely to complain that there are no mature, kind, caring and emotionally intelligent men, but they're unlikely to enter a room and complain that none of the men present are handsome.)

Also, wingnut snooker popcorn Charles I.

I hate the word picky-bits

DallazMajor · 03/07/2026 15:47

Did you know that if you mix brown and red sauce together it tastes like barbecue sauce. Although barbecue sauce tastes nothing like barbecues.

ThatCyanCat · 03/07/2026 15:48

I wonder if this is the guy who was mansplaining Edmund Blackadder to us all the other day. I usually try to avoid that term but fuck me, if ever a man asked for it...

I didn't know that, but I did know that barbecue sauce goes really well with apple pie. I know it sounds so wrong but it's true.

She wrote incomprehensible threads in times of yore. I can’t find any to link to as MN is doing weird security verification on me every time I go to a new page.

Oh, I’ve been here around 22 years and can’t remember! Maybe I never made it through the titles?
Sharon sounds quite entertaining though.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/07/2026 15:51

I’m near enough unsure.

I am, however, applauding the creative use of the semi colon. We don’t see enough of it in this day and age

No, Sharon had an issue with a wasp and if I remember correctly her boyfriend was t-rexing in the supermarket.
That takes me back.

The t-rexing in the supermarket… works every time!

Nah, that one clearly had a cunning plan.

This one, well - OP, have you ever thought of writing some war poetry?

Was It Sharon that didn’t get the M and S job?

No, you're thinking of Sharon who was a wellness coach. Not Sharon who coached wells. It's easy to get them mixed up though.

tartyflette · 03/07/2026 15:56

Life’s too short to be arsed with this bollocks.
(Picky bits is actually two words, even if hyphenated, and is a horrible phrase anyway. )
