AIBU to ask if I can report my neighbour's bright blue house?

I live in a terraced house. My neighbours have painted the back of their house bright blue (think swimming pool blue / like the Mikanos blue). It is horrible and looms over my garden. It’s really going to spoil my enjoyment of my space to have to look at this every day. I spoke to the wife earlier this morning and said it was not to my taste and would they consider changing and she said ‘the beige of your house isn’t to my taste but it’s your house. This is my house.’ And shut the door in my face. WIBU to report them to the council? Can I even do so? Surely you can’t just paint any offensive colour and expect neighbours to live alongside it?

You would hate where I live in Scotland - painting houses in vibrant colours, seems to be a national past time. It seems especially popular to paint individual terrace houses, fun colours.
I personally love a colourful house. Cheers me right up😍.
I regularly see sunshine yellow, mint green, forest green, various blues,(including the shade your neighbour has), pink, orange, lilac, and I've even seen a couple of dark purple houses.
Whatever you do, never visit La Boca in Buenos Aires. Now those are some vibrant houses!
If you're really upset by the blue house, you could take drastic action, and try to emigrate to the USA. Once there, make sure you buy somewhere with a strict Homeowners Association. Then you won't have to worry about anyone's individuality seeping through into their garden or house presentation😁 there, you could just report the blue house to the HMO, and no more blue house.

I'm sure, even in 2017, photoshop allowed people to remove objects from their pictures. I remember (around 2012) my friend's daughter having a group of 6 friends - including her, and she had a photograph of them altogether standing by a ride at Alton Towers. Anyway, she fell out with one of them who was third in the row of 6 girls, and she said wished she wasn't in the photo. So I airbrushed her out for her. Looked like she was never there!

So even in 2017, it would have been easy to remove the car. Or crop it even! Anyway, here's the original yellow Corsa pic, the pic with the car cropped off, and the pic with the car airbrushed out. Yet, people were acting like the car had wrecked their picture! 🙄 It's soooo easy to sort out (and has been for about 15-18 years!)

YANBU to ask if you can reported because you are annoyed at the blue shade and you don't know the legal stuff about facades. You are unreasonable thinking they own you a conversation, there is a middle ground to find, you have something to say about their walls colour and to patronize them because they work in trading or building, like to use their garden, have a beer etc etc.

I love colourful houses, we need our house painted on the outside its cream/mossy/cracked

It needs fixing and painting. I would love to go for a bright colour, how lovely.

Who painted your house beige and did you check that with your neighbours at the time?

I love it , that is the colour of my house with white sills, door surround and door and drainpipes ect.

I think it looks better if all the houses in a row are painted different colours like in Tobermory.
i lived in a small coastal town for a while and quite a few of the homes on the seafront or by the harbour were colours like ochre , dark red , pale blue and dark blue .
I felt it looked lovely .
However I don’t think a lilac or a Barbie pink house would have looked right 🤔

It means that the poster is actually the other person, in this case the owner of the blue house. I don't think it's a reverse. I think it really is this neighbour.

In this case it means that I was wondering if it was the neighbour who had someone knocking on their door complaining about the colur that they painted their back wall. In other words they are posting from the other party.

I'd love a house that colour, it would really lift my spirits! I can't imagine the neighbours would be too keen unfortunately.

Some years ago my DH painted our huge gates a deep blue, they looked fantastic but our next door neighbours made no bones about telling him they really didn’t like the colour. Roll on a few years gates are still blue and I wait for them go on holiday before I go and touch up the blue paint 😂

They've only painted the back of the house, I can't see the problem.

When I buy my own, I’m painting it pink.

Paint yours pink or purple. Beige is very offensive.

Could you sit with your back to it when you sit out?

I love to see brightly coloured front doors and exterior walls. In my neighbourhood we have a few pastels and one vivid colour and they bring a few smiles to faces when folk walk by including my own. I want to brighten up my own house but can't decide which colour.

There are no words! Reporting someone for painting their house a colour you dislike 😂🙄I can't believe people actually think like this.

I can because large swathes of the population are dicks not to put to fine point on it.

Unfortunately I don't think there's anything you could do. Maybe you can try planting some tall bushes/trees to block some of it. Even in large plant pots might help. 🤷 It's not something I'd like to fall out with my neighbours over. Even if you report it they would know it was you and things could become more awkward.

I feel your pain! I would hate any colour that didn’t blend in with the general ambiance of the neighbourhood, not just blue. I think it was probably unwise to approach your neighbours though - nobody likes being challenged when it comes to matters of taste! Deep sympathy from me anyway.
