AIBU to ask if I can report my neighbour's bright blue house?

I live in a terraced house. My neighbours have painted the back of their house bright blue (think swimming pool blue / like the Mikanos blue). It is horrible and looms over my garden. It’s really going to spoil my enjoyment of my space to have to look at this every day. I spoke to the wife earlier this morning and said it was not to my taste and would they consider changing and she said ‘the beige of your house isn’t to my taste but it’s your house. This is my house.’ And shut the door in my face. WIBU to report them to the council? Can I even do so? Surely you can’t just paint any offensive colour and expect neighbours to live alongside it?

Your wit appears to be as dull as your taste in colours. It’s OP who thinks it’s outrageous that a mere manual labourer can live in a £500k house.

And very very very very cheap is subjective, much like taste.

Sympathies, @BauhausOfEliott, I'm struggling to think of a colour that is more hideous than fake stone cladding.

There's a lovely colourful terrace of houses where I live; from memory there's a pale blue, primrose yellow, pale pink, soft grey, light green, darker blue-grey, a pale lavender plus a couple that are white or cream. They all have toning front doors, too, and hanging baskets that co-ordinate with the colour of the render.

It's a little too contrived in a way, but it cheers me up whenever I drive past, even on the greyest of days.

I wonder if they have a designated organiser who looks after the hanging baskets?

As cute as I find this idea, I couldn't be arsed. I'd be the one in the middle, with the chipped painted door and hanging basket full of weeds and dead flowers, who everyone hates. I have neither the time nor the inclination to put this much effort into fitting in with my neighbours and pleasing passers-by.

Painted houses, owned, can be any colour the owners like, unless it's listed and/or in a conservation area.

I can't believe that the only thing in your life you have to grump about is the colour of the neighbour's house!

I totally understand that not everyone likes coloured houses and you don't like the blue on theirs, fair enough, BUT, I agree with your neighbour. I also LOVE coloured houses like those in Blackpool, etc.

How can you report them just for having a coloured house?! Even if the entire thing, roof included, was painted Mr Blobby style or Minions or Smurfs, whatever, then just because you don't like the colour, you have no right at all to try to report.

I personally can't abide boring beige, blinding white, etc., but I wouldn't report you or come to your door to moan about the colour of your house!

We had a house that was painted a lovely (IMO) duck-egg blue, with white, wood sash windows. Last time I saw it it had been painted a greigey-taupe sort of colour, with grey windows and front door. Looked bloody awful to me, but it's their house now so they can do what they like...

I'd be tempted to send a strongly worded voicenote, as accosting them on their own doorstep didn't work ;)

I actually think some people are being unnecessarily bitchy on this thread, particularly some who are writing comment after comment. But yes, accusing you of having two accounts and posting is poor behaviour and you could report it.

I can’t see where the OP said that this is the only problem she has in life. Can you direct me to where she said that? It is possible for people to have big problems but sometimes focus on the much smaller ones you know. And many people would not post a serious problem on here but might post about something fairly trivial.

Love her answer off course you can enjoy your garden because that's yours the blue one is hers stop being one of those nieghbours that like to interfere as she said you don't have to like it .

Full disclosure I paint any house blue if I can. I like blue. Also people who do not paint their houses like Ballamory are missing out.

Rather harsh. It could be overpowering if you want to relax in your garden. I suggest ways to make it more positive by growing some Mediterranean type shrubs and flowers and changing your thought if you can.

It was very rude of you to tell her you want her to change the colour of her house so she was just giving it back in kind.

It’s a shit colour in the UK, because it’s wrong for our more northern light. Some blue houses work, though. Although not that shade.
