AIBU to ask if I can report my neighbour's bright blue house?

I live in a terraced house. My neighbours have painted the back of their house bright blue (think swimming pool blue / like the Mikanos blue). It is horrible and looms over my garden. It’s really going to spoil my enjoyment of my space to have to look at this every day. I spoke to the wife earlier this morning and said it was not to my taste and would they consider changing and she said ‘the beige of your house isn’t to my taste but it’s your house. This is my house.’ And shut the door in my face. WIBU to report them to the council? Can I even do so? Surely you can’t just paint any offensive colour and expect neighbours to live alongside it?

Yes you are being unreasonable and you must have nothing better to do? Your neighbor is right, she doesn’t like the colour of your house, what would you have said to her if she knocked your door and asked you to do the same, I’m not a fan of my neighbours, their garden is like a rubbish dump and it spoils it for me sitting in my garden, but I’ve been told there’s nothing I can do, so just put a line under it and enjoy your garden and perhaps sit with your back to the blue wall?

For goodness sake. You will get used to it. Sure you will barely notice it by next summer.

Just close your eyes when you're in the garden so you wont see it.

I love mykonos blue, it's my favourite. The picture you showed isn't that though.

It's their house, that presumably they own, so YABU. It'll bring a bit of colour in winter.

Sounds lovely, especially the white trim around the windows, which sounds very similar to a lot of the houses around the Mosel (Moselle) in Germany.

Okay, that is a very specific blue. In all fairness, they can paint their house any colour they choose. Painted houses can be lovely if theyre in a row. If you cant beat them, can you join them? Maybe paint yours a much classier colour like pastel/sage green? Thats the petty in me.

This was in Staines Road, Twickenham (not posh, but posher than some other areas in London I guess).
The Council took the woman to court after a few neighbours complained, but it was a fairly fluorescent pink on the streetside, and she did then paint two cars on her driveway pink as well...😂

A compromise on her house! You sound a right one! They’ve painted their house a colour they like! I’ll hazard a guess you’re quite a miserable person who struggles to make friends!

I grew up in the Duchy of Westminster part of London (SW1, Belgravia/Pimlico) where part of the leasehold agreement was that houses had to be white and doors black. We got a very stern letter when we painted our door red, and had to paint in back to black.

I imagine this contributed to DBro painting his house orange decades later. He lives by the coast in a terrace of brightly coloured house in a village of brightly coloured houses.

You did have a conversation and it ended , Thier was nothing further to dicuss . She basically told you to mind your own business and she doesn't have to discuss her interior or exterior design choices with you .

Check out Choumert Square, Peckham, (very South London) once dull and ordinary but now very colourful and people paying a premium to live there. Of course there are many other examples. Loads of London properties have been upgraded over recent years with higher spec gardens and frontages, better front doors and double glazing and more colour has slowly been creeping in. I hope this post encourages more of us to add more colour.
