Andy Burnham should be delivering Labours manifesto, not his own

Fair enough, have your ideas on HOW to do it, but his plans to further devolution were not voted on. Surely this is wrong.

Am watching his speech and am finding the roars and loud clapping from Labour MPs intolerable.

Everything he's said is totally vague and meaningless, and he's talking like he's already the PM when nobody has voted for him.

LizardLore · 29/06/2026 12:13

Branwellgirl · 29/06/2026 12:09

It won’t matter - he’ll be gone as well in a couple of years. The whole country’s a shite show. Nobody’s got any patience to see anything through. Nobody’s allowed to make a mistake and rectify it because they’re hounded relentlessly by a media who need content 24/7.
Call me old fashioned and reactionary but the internet has a part in this instability.

Yep think he’ll be out. Even if he had the most genius vision for change ever, the results wouldn’t be showing themselves within 2 years

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 29/06/2026 12:14

He is going to put Britain back where it belongs, wherever that is.

Vague and meaningless is right. It’s just more of the same but with a less robotic delivery. I wish someone would grasp the nettle and actually do something.

This is how we get PM Farage.

The irony being that Farage is also vague and meaningless.

General election should be called if he plans not to stick to rhe manifesto. Knew this would happen, he’s more left than Kier was.

That’s a relief!

BeardySchnauzer · 29/06/2026 12:16

I feel like he needs to visit some deprived areas in the south.

I'm not against local areas being given the resource to resolve local specific issues but there’s no magic money tree so they still need to have some sensible way of doing this

JoyousOpalLemur · 29/06/2026 12:17

"We need to move forwards.."

Labour MPs clap loudly and enthusiastically

".. and not backwards"

Labour MPs shout "Yesss!"

This is embarrassing.

He suggested he has a ten year economic plan for the UK, but didn't tell us what it is and said he'd stick to the 2024 Labour manifesto anyway, and this plan has been written by the brilliant minds of phone thief Louise Haigh and class warrior Lucy Powell.

LizardLore · 29/06/2026 12:17

I would support him totally tearing up the manifesto. Some of the policies in there are at the root of the current mess. Especially arbitrary red lines around the economy.

Everyone will complain either way so he might as well do things really differently. But he won’t.

Another two years watching the labour death spiral, then…

LizardLore · 29/06/2026 12:18

Chritrup · 29/06/2026 12:16

Oh, of course. But in a more straight-talking way. Or something.

Chritrup · 29/06/2026 12:16

Agreed.

Burnham v Farage shows how unserious we are as a country.

I despise the Tories but they do at least have a leader who is clear.

BeardySchnauzer · 29/06/2026 12:19

He complains Westminster doesn’t represent the north - is that a failing of northern MPs?

and he talks about re industrialisation - are going to compete with China?

LovingTelescopes · 29/06/2026 10:54

The man does not believe in democracy: a trait of the far Left.

He twice ran-and failed to be Labour leader.

He then waited for the inevitable balls up that Keir Starmer was expected to-and did-make.

He then engineered a by election by getting(persuading/bribing/threatening/blackmailing-we don't know which but it will be one of these) a perfectly good Labour MP to stand aside, forcing a by-election for no reason other than his hard nosed political ambition.

He then moved players about so there would be no vote from his own party as to whether he would be leader and is about to declare doing lots of grasping hard left things without so much as one blush of shame about whether he should call a General Election.

He seemed to believe in this when the Tories had a change in PM, even though each and every one of them was an elected MP at the time of the election and were not going to deviate hugely from the manifesto,

He is holding a press Conference this morning at which no-one will be allowed to ask any questions.

He is going to make sure his mates get power in the provinces.

He is not really Andy Capp but Comrade Andy.

As an aside, he did fuck all in Manchester apart from run some buses and give the bus drivers 56% pay rise to do it quietly and without fuss.

Manchester is a crime ridden shit hole with charity shops on Oxford Street and Deansgate, more rough sleepers than ever, sky high parking-which is why everyone goes to the Trafford Centre with shops and coffee shops closing in town-and filthy streets.

The man is a twat, he is going to surround himself with far left twats-Milliband, Raynor and Fraudster Haigh.

Yes, he is Far Left and in two years, there will be no discussion about it as everyone-except those who are either Far Left themselves or who have heads as soft as a baked apple-will know.

END OF.

Calling Andy Burnham "far left" just signals that you don't know what the far left actually is. He's a mainstream social democrat who supports policies like bus franchising, devolution and public investment not abolishing capitalism or democracy. Replacing facts with conspiracy theories and insults just make you look really silly.

But you put "END OF" so we're all convinced now....

Snazzy73 · 29/06/2026 12:21

I was in Manchester only the other week for work and it is still a dark scary hole. Is that what we can expect under Burnham’s ‘success’? No thanks! More money being wasted with MPs having to travel up and down to his new hub and on all the costs associated with such a ridiculous self serving move.

I actually find Kemi even less serious than either of them. She’s absolutely obsessed with online culture wars shit.

She also just seems like such a horrible person, which I know is a vague and meaningless criticism in itself. But that’s the feeling I get every time she speaks. She is so unkind, gloating, cruel, mocking, lacking in even the minimum of conciliatoriness or empathy. And I don’t find her clear either - she just reacts to whatever the story of the day is, but tangible policy ideas are few and far between.

Sorry for the rant - as you can tell she really does my nut in! Rishi and even Boris seem likeable by comparison

More people like her than any male leader who’s in rn. I think she gets criticism like this on here because she doesn’t fit a pre conceived mould and faces extra barriers.

Settlersa · 29/06/2026 12:30

Manchester isn’t that far north. What about the proper North and Scotland. We are East Midlands so proper forgotten. He is very Manchester centric

She is very fond of insults. It seems like it is all she has.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 29/06/2026 12:36

I think King Charles should dissolve parliament

Didimum · 29/06/2026 12:36

This subject had come up with the last nine(!) prime minister changes.

No party and no manifesto can be successful right now – and for the long term actually. The country have the equivalent of a shopping addiction for PMs right now because they cannot accept that it's not fixable.

You know what, definitions from the Left change all the time but people still know what those terms really mean.

Andy Burnham is Far Left-you may change the definition of Far Left so that he no longer fits it-but by most reasonable, none mucked about with definitions of Far Left-he certainly is.

You may not like those apples but tough luck.

Look, knock her all you want but she worked in McDonald’s don’t you know, she understands the people!!!!

It’s a shitshow right now, can’t bear the thought of actually having to vote for one of this lot. However, despite not liking the guy, I hope I am wrong and Burnham is amazing. I hope he makes everything incredible. Because if not Farage will be here setting fire to everything in two years time and we will all be fucked.

She is currently relying too much on insults and generally being rather unpleasant. That can be acknowledged at the same time as acknowledging that, as a Black woman, she has had to overcome barriers and prejudice to get where she is. That is admirable, but it doesn't excuse her recent behaviour.

So your evidence is 'everyone knows' and 'tough luck'.

Quite the shrewd political mind you have.
