Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

My granny used to say that if it wasn't for sale don't put it on show in the shop window. Of course it's done to attract attention. If you don't want people to look don't put it on display.

Just last week I was out with my 6 year old great nephew. We were following a young girl whose bare bum was showing because of her extremely short skirt. Little lad shouts out Auntie, Auntie, that lady's got no knickers on.

Then your great nephew could probably use a lesson in not shouting out personal comments.

And I’m guessing your granny was saying that many decades ago in the bad old days when women did what they were told

But the more the shorts people get ignored the more they increase the attention seeking and lack of clothes, it is obviously an issue or this thread wouldn"t exist? Do we actually need public decency laws that can be enforced?

Why are you making things up? Do you know any of this for a fact ?

If you feel someone has broken public decency laws then report them.

Who needs the patriarchy when women judge other women so nastily?

Superhansrantowindsor · 01/07/2026 21:49

Where do we actually draw the line though at people can wear what they want?

How is not wanting to see bum cheeks judging women nastily? I just don’t want to see it. End of.

OonaStubbs · 02/07/2026 07:42

Bums should not be on display, whether male or female.

Because some of the comments on here are vile. I don’t want to see bare arses etc but I recognise that I can look away. I don’t call those women cheap or imply they are asking for trouble

MightyGoldBear · 02/07/2026 08:22

For me it just looks so very uncomfortable. It's not like short shorts or hot pants. It's like someone gave you a wedgy or cut off half your pants. I'd actually say Brazilian knickers would give more coverage than these shorts.

My audhd child has sensory issues he really hates wearing pants which is fine at home in the privacy of his bedroom. Not fine for school when he could accidentally show more of himself than he would like if he had no pants under his loose shorts. He understands its for himself and others comfort/privacy. But he is curious where the line is drawn. He is unfortunately the same height as some girls and women's very exposed bum cheeks when we queue up in the park for ice cream of for flumes at swimming (full thongs there) it's uncomfortable for him to be face to cheek in these situations. As adults we move in line first. Obviously it's not in a sexualised objectifying way just a my face is incredibly close to where you poo way!

But where is the line drawn? Particularly in public spaces where you can't easily avoid proximity to others. I'm all for live and let live, not looking but there are situations where you can ignore the proximity.

OonaStubbs · 02/07/2026 08:52

I hate short shorts.

Personally, I never said that. I also want to highlight that public decency laws exist for a reason. People do need to take some personal responsibility and that’s the issue with society these days. There’s no reason to have your bum hanging out in a public space unless it’s a swimming pool or a beach.

Also the whole look away thing is putting responsibility onto us when we shouldn’t necessarily have to. I gave the example of the escalator. I didn’t really have many other places to look, it was right in my face. It’s indecent and it makes me uncomfortable!!

Daisy54 · 02/07/2026 09:48

When I see bum cheeks hanging out, I look away, because I find it distasteful.

However, I myself have found it difficult to find shorts that do not ride up.

Finally (after 3 years ), I found a pair from Pull and Bear.

100% agree.

Yep. And I don't want to sit on a seat that someone's naked bum cheeks have been on. Or sweaty thighs.

Imagine going out for coffee/ lunch / dinner and having to sit down on a chair that someone’s sweaty bum cheeks were on only 5 minutes earlier. Grim!

Totally agree.
And young children should be exposed to an adults arse cheeks either!

It looks absolutely dreadful. No way would my daughter be walking around in public with half her backside on display.

Then in the millisecond it takes to register what you have seen, look away.

There are plenty of things I don’t want to see. So I look away.

I find it disturbing the way that some of you are talking about young women. It reminds me of the threads about schoolgirls being told to cover up as it’s not fair on the male teachers.

But in the millisecond it takes you to register that you are looking at a girl's bum, you have already seen it and made a judgement about it. The only way to avoid seeing anything distasteful would be to wear a blindfold or never go out.

Out of interest, when you see a girl's bum cheeks, do you look away? If you do, then you are making the same judgement as everyone else that it is not an acceptable way to dress. If you don't look away, then...what?

It took you three years to find shorts that don't ride up? Marks and many other places have mid-thigh shorts and knee-length shorts. There's a huge choice of shorts-length out there.

Exactly! Everyone has traces of urine and faecal matter on those cheeks. 🤮

I was in the unfortunate position of being right behind a pair of arse cheeks on an escalator recently and I caught a slight whiff of poo. I kid you not.

I didn’t want frumpy shorts, but thank you for your input.

Do you not wash or wipe your arse then? How unhygienic.

I don’t remember the last time I saw someone’s arse because I don’t pay attention.

its fine to look away if it is such an issue. If I do see something I would rather not see, I don’t judge, I just choose to disengage.

I don’t get how people even notice the choices of others. It’s much less stressful to concentrate on what you are doing and leave others fo do the same.

GrillaMilla · 02/07/2026 15:29

Sad sign of the times that some people are arguing it's perfectly normal for people to walk around in public with their bare bottoms on show.

I think booty shorts.

What the hell is that. 😂
How long before they’re all wearing those instead of flash your bum cheek shorts
