Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

I hate it. It’s indecent exposure!

We don't get much choice because they do a slow parade through the high street every year. That is the point I am making, if that is what used to be classed "alternative" and we now let those kinks be shown off on the high street to great fanfare, what difference does it really make to have a few girls following fashion on that same high street?

I know. It's an awful lowering of standards across the board. Our society just gets dumber and dumber (Gogglebox, video games etc.) and worse and worse standards become acceptable. I don't know where it will end - total anarchy? Everyone running around naked and more and more people just doing nothing but being online?

It's extremely unfashionable to say in our individualistic culture, but there are many things today which lower society imo and should be frowned upon. Very small and revealing clothing is one of those things. It's not decent, it compromises the people who wear it, no one knows where to look, and women do not need their bodies any more objectified and sexualised than they've already been since time began. Yes, I know it's their choice, but is it really a free choice when following the crowd and trends is a human urge and when they might come under male pressure to dress that way? Look at that pig Kanye and the way he makes his wife dress. (She's clearly under his control.)

I don't want to go back to the societal attitudes of the Fifties, when women were financially dependent and couldn't have control of their bodies, but I wouldn't mind having some of the higher standards of back then. Making a racket in the streets, people being rude, getting drunk, throwing up, men peeing against walls...we could do without all that. It was all frowned upon then. I expect being out in public was a much safer and more pleasant experience than today.

Indeed, but some on here won’t accept that!

Something definitely needs to be done. It is just not right that young ladies feel the need to advertise their "wares" to all and sundry. They should be brought up to show some class and dignity and decorum. As should our young men for that matter.

mezlou84 · 01/07/2026 08:00

I personally wouldn't and didn't. It was a huge thing when I was a pre-teen/teen in the 90s. It was even on one of the kids shows and if I remember whoever it was said who likes short shorts, I like short shorts. It'll go away and come back again like all trends. If you couldn't see the bottom of your bum, your shorts were too long lol.

Their bodies are not wares just because you can see them, and putting it in inverted commas doesn't make it any less of a disgusting thing to say.

Find that quite odd. I was at a cough very popular shopping destination in Kent last weekend and there was a girl there with cropped crochet shorts that were pretty much boxer shorts and her arse cheeks were hanging out. She stopped right in front of me on the escalator and it was gross. I don’t want to see your arse cheers luv!

I’m hoping that’s sarcasm. ‘Advertise their wares’??

Then in the millisecond it takes to register what you have seen, look away.

There are plenty of things I don’t want to see. So I look away.

I find it disturbing the way that some of you are talking about young women. It reminds me of the threads about schoolgirls being told to cover up as it’s not fair on the male teachers.

KeepPumping · 01/07/2026 10:58

ObelixtheGaul · 30/06/2026 19:05

At the time, though, attitudes towards those short shorts and mini skirts were not dissimilar to those displayed on this thread. Throughout history there has been a horror of women showing their bodies. And it IS women. There's a reason why it's perfectly legal for a man to walk down the high street with no shirt on, but a woman can't do the same. Whatever you think about shirtless men, it's a double standard.

In the 70s, men wore short shorts, too. Nobody commented on it. It didn't get the outrage from the older generations that the female equivalent did.

Going further back, nobody was horrified by men's legs bifurcated by trousers. When women started wearing them, to some people it was as though they'd stripped naked for a performance in the Pink Pussycat Club.

What is it about women's bodies that generates this level of interest even from other women? Twas ever thus...

People used to moan about "Builders Bum" all the time, that was before there were a lot of female brickies.

I disagree, and that’s absolutely okay to disagree with you on a public forum.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should comes to mind!!!

So a schoolgirl can dress any way she wants in class?

I didn’t say that. All uniform standards should be adhered to, whether the student is male or female.

However telling girls to dress modestly because they look slutty or so the boys or the male staff don’t get distracted is all kinds of fucked up.

Its disturbing that people are telling their girls to cover up or they can invite trouble yet they don’t seem to be telling their boys to act like decent human beings and control themselves.

Think what a world it would be if the onus was on men not to be sexual predators instead of being on women not to put temptation in the way of the poor chaps.

Most men in the street are not paying attention to loud groups of girls in shorts.

Then what’s the problem?

If seeing flesh on display is an issue for you, just mind your business. It’s surprisingly easy to do

But the more the shorts people get ignored the more they increase the attention seeking and lack of clothes, it is obviously an issue or this thread wouldn"t exist? Do we actually need public decency laws that can be enforced?

But that’s quite different to what I and many others on this thread are saying. I am a woman in her mid 30s, I don’t wanna see girls or young women’s bums, especially if I’m at a supermarket or something. It isn’t the beach !

I’d say that a different matter entirely

Loving all the comments suggesting women wear these for men only - erm, there has been a heatwave going on, it is summer... But no, can't be the only reason, right? The lesbians are clearly not really gay either.

What's a heatwave got to do with showing your bum cheeks? Why aren't we all doing it in that case?

Illegally18 · 01/07/2026 13:49

Allseeingallknowing · 29/06/2026 21:38

Only as much as anyone on this thread. I do find people and their choices interesting though. I would not have allowed my daughter to dress in such a vulgar and provocative way. Fortunately she didn’t want to, and neither did her daughters. They all dress nicely and decently

Sarcasm or not, they are advertising their wares! In many human societies, people hide their genitals and excretory organs from public view, and hide these activities from public view as well. When you see these these girls, they're displaying an organ used for sitting and shitting, and displaying themselves as available for anal sex. It's like they're walking around saying ' anyone is free to stick it up my bum'! Plus it's frigging ugly!

Exactly, you see people doing it in the winter months.

My granny used to say that if it wasn't for sale don't put it on show in the shop window. Of course it's done to attract attention. If you don't want people to look don't put it on display.

Just last week I was out with my 6 year old great nephew. We were following a young girl whose bare bum was showing because of her extremely short skirt. Little lad shouts out Auntie, Auntie, that lady's got no knickers on.

I think the psychologists call that "negative attention" LOL
