Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

And how long were you staring at this person while being close enough to see her sunburn? How odd

Do you have some kind of challenge with your eyes and your ability to process visual information?

Because I don't.

I was approaching and probably 30 feet away it caught my attention so maybe 5 seconds while i'm thinking is that girl naked from the waist down? And her arse was red, her legs were not. That takes a millisecond to see so it was another few seconds while i'm thinking no, she can't be.

As I walked past she straightened up and I could see she was wearing very short. ill-fitting shorts.

I know what you're trying to do, you're trying to insinuate that I must have been staring.

No, that's how eyes and the brain works. You see something and your brain processes it very quickly. Especially if your focus is drawn to it as out of the ordinary which it was in this case as I though she was partially naked.

It literally takes as little as13 milliseconds (I can link the research) for the brain to process visual information but extracting the details, interpreting meaning and translating that into a decision about what that thing is and what it means takes about 150-400 milliseconds.

No human needs to stare at something to see it and understand what it is. Apologies if you do, you might want to see a Dr.

HolidayPlanningAgain · 30/06/2026 11:28

my bum cheeks were definitely on display when from about 17-25
my DSD18 has them on display currently which is a considerable smaller amount of skin on display than in her teeny bikinis

Wow. How condescending 🤣

No I tend to mind my own business when I’m out and about - I highly recommend it.

PistachioTiramisu · 30/06/2026 12:04

I think the issue is that modesty seems to have completely disappeared. When I was in my 20s I would never have gone out in anything even remotely revealing - it just wasn't done - and I would have felt embarrassed if I thought anything was showing which really shouldn't be!! It's the same with pregnant women wearing skintight clothes to draw attention to the fact that they are pregnant - I find it really unattractive and unnecessary!

You were condescending so I returned the tone.

You can mind your business while also noticing can't you?

You didn't say 'mind your business' you implied I must have been staring.

I explained how the eyes and brain works.

Maybe next time you'll think twice.

If a poster said they saw a man exposing themselves would you post 'oh well you must have really been staring to notice his penis was out and he was wearing tracksuit bottoms?'

No you wouldn't. So don't attempt to do it to a woman who noticed someone elses almost entire arse was hanging out. It's designed to make that person look like theyre some kind of pervert, weirdo or a 'Karen' and shut them down and im not playing your game.

People should be appropriately dressed in public. If not, it will attract attention.

I don"t agree we should enforce clothing laws though, we would be like a religious state then, police in the UK can"t stop shoplifters can you imagine them trying to round up groups of young girls for breaching decency laws, LOL, it would be like a scene from the Benny Hill show.
You are right though there is a trend now to be nearly naked and to flaunt this, it is an attention/approval thing for sure and I think it has mushroomed due to the influence of the internet and social media.
The only way to stop it is if all of society bands together and everyone from brickies to grannies goes about flaunting their arse, then the younger short wearers would just feel absolutely ridiculous and stop the behaviour?

Ayecollyflower · 30/06/2026 06:08

Agree with all the criticisms, but I'm sure people would have said the same about mini-skirts sixty years ago.

By the way, do these kind of shorts have a name?

I think booty shorts.

This reminds me of a thread about scrunch bum (up your bum) leggings. Someone said they went to Sainsbury's with their elderly dad and someone wearing them bent over in front of him and he said "Great Scott!" or something 😂

Yes. These are the shorts. People keep saying ‘I wore shorts’ but they weren’t like this. I was recently at an airport. And the girls were wearing these!!

Needing the attention this sort of clothing brings to walk through an airport is just tragic.

I guess at least security knew they weren't hiding anything...

Doesn’t anyone on here remember being young? My skirts were as short as I could make them. And I wore hot pants. These girls feel confident in their bodies. Why are people so quick to judge?

Were you actually showing your bum though?

Short skirts and hot pants are not the issue here.

And body confidence doesn't mean you can expose your bum! Is it OK for men to do that because they're body confident?

Brucebogtrotter257 · 30/06/2026 18:13

Anarchy99 · 29/06/2026 21:19

You didn’t though, did you

It's an expression that means I found it funny. Jeez you got out the wrong side of the bed this morning are your shorts stuck too far up your arse?

DD bought a pair for holiday from Subdued that are super short at the front but slightly longer at the back so no cheek. They look great. She hates the cheek showing so chose them herself but they might be a good compromise for mums battling with their DDs over how short their shorts are! I think it’s these ones: https://www.subdued.com/uk_en/pc06grq

They are nothing like the shorts that are being discussed. They're just shorts.

Think you missed the point of my post as did @ThatCyanCat. I was suggesting an alternative.

I wasn’t aware no one was allowed to move the conversation on beyond one very specific type of shorts so thanks both for pointing that out!

  • just wasn't done? When was this, can I ask? I think clothes should be less revealing but that hasn't been thr case for a while.

MidnightMeltdown · 28/06/2026 21:41

This is not what we’re talking about. These are just hot pants. The ones I’ve seen are a whole other level, with arse cheeks fully on display. Practically a thong with shorts at the waist band.

At the time, though, attitudes towards those short shorts and mini skirts were not dissimilar to those displayed on this thread. Throughout history there has been a horror of women showing their bodies. And it IS women. There's a reason why it's perfectly legal for a man to walk down the high street with no shirt on, but a woman can't do the same. Whatever you think about shirtless men, it's a double standard.

In the 70s, men wore short shorts, too. Nobody commented on it. It didn't get the outrage from the older generations that the female equivalent did.

Going further back, nobody was horrified by men's legs bifurcated by trousers. When women started wearing them, to some people it was as though they'd stripped naked for a performance in the Pink Pussycat Club.

What is it about women's bodies that generates this level of interest even from other women? Twas ever thus...

Some of you should never EVER go to Brazil

My 67 year old aunt went to Brazil and wound up at a carnival /festival.
Shes a very church going/choir singing/university challenge/national trust/museum volunteer gal. So i was surprised. She said she coulsnt beleive it and had to film the "incredible and sexy black woman dancing in a carnival costume" her words were that there was something so mesmerising about the way the woman was shaking her hips in a particular rhythm with a big bum and a perfect white thong in between 2 glorious buttocks. I was like....... righttttt 😲 🫨 🫢 😮 😲

user1471538275 · 30/06/2026 19:52

@ObelixtheGaul It's just sad that it's women policing other women's clothing.

I genuinely think if they could some people would be happy to dole out violent punishments according to their judgments - just like in Afghanistan and Iran.

I may not like what some people wear - but I will absolutely defend their right to wear it - as long as they have the decency to do the same.

Yep. And I say this as someone who has always gravitated towards the long skirts/baggy shirts and trousers style. My 'shorts' are all long, and my swimming costumes have more in common with burkinis than thong bikinis, but that's my choice, my style that I like.

I think its a terrible look, also sometimes dont I think tbey realise how terrible it looks from the back.
For those saying dont look, they walking in my eye line, im presuming they want people to look...

They clearly don’t think it looks terrible.

If they think what you wear is terrible would you change your outfit to suit their tastes?

So…my DDs will be complaining that their DDs want to wear shorts and with their labia hanging out in 30 years’ time?

Nudists, most of whom are male, are allowed to present in public naked without batting an eye, as long as their "intent" isn't to distress and alarm. Doesn't matter how anyone else perceives it. So yes, despite men actually going naked in public places, in groups, in rural areas, wherever they like, we still prefer to wang on about fashion on young girls and the moral turpitude it must spell for this generation.
