I’m fat. I could get mounjaro

I am fit. I lift weights. Bloods ok so far

I’d like to do the jabs. But don’t want to lose
my joie de vivre

If you're drinking enough to not want to stop, maybe that's the problem. Stop drinking and see if you lose weight without needing the jabs.

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 21/06/2026 22:21

How fat? How old? I’m fat and only drink at weekends but have just been told I have a fatty liver. Don’t risk losing your vivre at the cost of your joie.

I think the jabs make you muggy for a bit. I’d seriously try for a month or two before trying them. That’s what I did. Now I know I can do it naturally. Currently just trying to get back in the e mindset 🫣

Ibi · 21/06/2026 22:23

The people I know don’t have any issue with drinking whilst on it.

AnonymityAnonymity · 21/06/2026 22:27

I stopped drinking for a year and the weight just fell off me.

I started drinking again a couple of months or so ago - one bottle of wine a week - and the weight is creeping back on.

Conclusion: if you cut out the alcohol you probably won't need weight loss jabs.

JaceLancs · 21/06/2026 22:29

Mounjaro made me want to drink less which was a bonus and helped me lose weight but I didn’t give up drinking or eating!

Edited

1 bottle of wine a week is only 600 calories. It’s usually the type food that is consumed whilst drinking the wine or on the hangover day that creates weight gain.

I should probably do this

Only 600 calories? That's a lot to me.

I'm actively trying not to snack on unhealthy foods while I'm drinking my bottle of wine but i'm still putting on weight.
Of course there is the physical inactivity while i'm actually drinking, the lethargy and laziness the next day when I'm suffering the effects of the alcohol and the two days of missing my weight exercise regime to fit in the drinking and recovery.
So I think it's a combination of the calories and the negative effects on life style that are contributing to the weight gain.

Perhaps quitting alcohol might not help OP lose weight but weight loss is generally touted as one of the benefits of giving up alcohol in all the supportive information designed to help people quit drinking

This is a great question. I’m considering the new weight pills coming out next month but also am very social - enjoy eating / drinking / going out / socialising. Worried that if I start the pills I will lose myself to them - I mean I do want to lose some of myself 🤣🤣 but not the fun parts!!

Peony1985 · 21/06/2026 22:55

Alcohol is fattening but the process of turning it back into sugars is different.
Cut the carbs and the sugars.
MJ did take away a lot of the enjoyment of booze but you can always push through. It calms your mind too so you may not need to be the life and soul like you used to.

My DH didn’t cut down his drinking, he’s been taking MJ for well over a year and has only lost the finest bit of weight. If he quit drink and MJ he’d be at least £600 per month better off and thinner.

Yeah - I don’t know what the answer is tbh. A friend who is also v sociable has been on the MJ for a while - and though is still sociable to a degree, it’s not the same.

i suspect I should make a (more) concerted effort to low carb and fit more exercise in etc before heading down the medication route. Hard with a young family though.

Sulgari · 21/06/2026 23:10

I have so little to cheer me

My dad has been jabbing since Christmas. He drinks waaaay more than he should, in fact, it concerns me how much he sinks throughout the week. The jab has not hindered his drinking ability one bit.

He looks absolutely fantastic. Obviously feels much better and in turn become a confident happy and chatty soul.

Edited to ask- why are you so unhappy?

Davros · 21/06/2026 23:45

I like drinking and I definitely drink less on MJ but mostly at home. I hardly drink at home at all, although other life events may have affected this, but I still drink like a fish when I go out

gotmyselfintoapickle · 21/06/2026 23:49

I like drinking too. More recently I recognise I rely on it to escape snd to make myself feel better. I started the jabs (I’m actually not overweight but lied to get them because I felt trapped by my inability to drink less). I know it’s hit and miss how it affects people but for me, I have basically no interest in drinking. I’ve gone from about 50-60 units a week to almost nothing. If I do drink, I don’t get the buzz. It’s so weird, but for me very welcome.

I have at stressful moments wished I could still get pissed and drown my sorrows but I know it’s good I can’t. It has been hard though. I’m not sure I’m much happier because I haven’t actually fixed the issues which made me drink, but at least my body is getting a break.

Realistically you’d be better off if you lost some weight. I don’t know how much you drink but you’d almost be better off if you drank less too so I’d try it and see.

MyDarlingPombear · 21/06/2026 23:56

I’ve been on Mounjaro for over a year and I have absolutely no interest in drinking at all. I’ve only had more than one drink on one occasion and the hangover was not worth it.
It’s not just alcohol preferences that’s have changed for me either, I struggle with fizzy drinks especially cola type ones.

iluvlucy · 22/06/2026 00:00

I have drank throughout ! Started at 95kg and in 9 months was 61kg… still drink when I feel like it . Have maintained for 2 years on 7.5 mg. You may find you need to go right up to 15 mg to lose

I’ve been on the pills for 4 months. You don’t lose your enjoyment of food or socialising but you just eat less. I probably enjoy food more now I am savouring every bite.

ACR7 · 22/06/2026 00:12

Just sticking to the factual answer. I was on the jabs list about 4 stone and still drank wine. I did try and make good choices with food ext bit wine is my vice.

Did you lose weight too though and are now underweight?

Asking as I would like to try curb my alcohol intake.
