I’m fat. I could get mounjaro

I am fit. I lift weights. Bloods ok so far

I’d like to do the jabs. But don’t want to lose
my joie de vivre

I enjoy a few glasses of wine too - I am still losing weight with Mounjaro, 17kg down in 6 months. I have literally been hibernating since starting (chronic fatigue due to other medical issues) without Mounjaro I think I’d have certainly put on weight! So feel 17kg loss is pretty good!! Good luck, and maybe try to reduce your alcohol a little bit too, but don’t give it up if it’s something you enjoy and helps with your MH, I firmly believe giving something up completely makes you sad and give up… modifications are so much better!
I’ve also decided that I’m going to have hypnotherapy after finishing Mounjaro in maybe 6-12 months to help maintain a healthier weight (I still have about 20kg to go)
good luck and get on it today!!

I’m 56 and 111kgs

I do a lot of weights and cardio,,but feel it’s out of hand

I am unhappy. Drinking makes me feel better

I worry how I’ll be.without it

I get that. But I can promise you that it’s part of the problem. It makes you feel temporarily better but makes you worse long term. The additional calories, the sugars, the sulphides.

I was 98kg. I’m now 86. I’ve still let loose at the weekend but I used intermittent fasting. I’m still huge but less so, and happier because of it. I’m more than happy to have a thread together to motivate us both. It won’t feel great at first but long term, you won’t regret it. Promise.

Sulgari · 22/06/2026 13:31

Thank you all, I’m really glad I posted

I think part of the problem is that neither my weight nor wine habit adversely affects me - yet. I am really active, eat well, hit protein goals, and lift weights and do yoga. I’m always groomed, nice clothes, etc. I’m tall and sturdy so don’t look as heavy as I am

BUT I am objectively way overweight, and I need to do something about it. The wine puts me way over my calorie deficit, and I’ve been dealing with that by not logging it 😳

I am scared of being me with no crutch. But the comments have made me decide I must try

I’ll jag tomorrow after I’ve done a couple of must do things that I can’t feel ill for, just in case that happens, need to drive DC to his men b jag

I Shall report when I’ve done it, accountable now!

Yep!! So we convince ourselves that it's something to sort out 'in the future'.

You don't need me to tell you that none of us know when the consequences will catch up with us.

A friend went in Mounjaro and it didn’t affect her love of Chardonnay. She drank as much as ever and still lost weight.

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/06/2026 13:51

I have lost 7 stone on MJ. I still drank when I wanted to but found what I drank changed. Wine was a no but I started drinking vodka and a mixer. So less calorific. I am not a big drinker anyway and don't feel like it gave me joie de vivre.
What MJ did give me was more energy and more confidence.

HeidiLite · 22/06/2026 15:06

and like PP said, alcohol doesn't make me happy any more. So it's not like I'm sitting there, thinking that oooh I really want a drink, I am so sad I am not allowing myself to drink. No, I just don't want to. I am just as happy.

No, strike that, I am MUCH happier being slim and healthy.

Davros · 22/06/2026 17:34

I find having something in the fridge I’m happy to drink helps, diet 7Up in my case. It can’t replace a few pints of lager when I’m out though!

I stopped drinking for a year and the weight just fell off me.

I started drinking again a couple of months or so ago - one bottle of wine a week - and the weight is creeping back on.

Conclusion: if you cut out the alcohol you probably won't need weight loss jabs.

Edited

This is just the sort of proper advice I don’t want to read but I honestly wish I could follow. I don’t drink much but just could not give it up altogether.

Noshadowsinthedarkness · 22/06/2026 17:37

I don’t drink any alcohol after stopping about 18 months ago. Even one glass would ruin my sleep.

I have actually gained weight !

I stopped drinking for three months, it made not a jot of difference to my weight, my sleep or my appearance, I've never understood how cutting out alcohol can make such a noticable change. Went back to having a couple of glasses of wine a week and did not gain weight or feel any less well than when I was not drinking.

I would expect if depends on so many variables.

I " discovered" alcohol when I turned 18. I found it could help me overcome my acute shyness and problems with social interaction and also serve as a replacement for medication. That's something like 55 years ago. During which time i have gone through periods of relatively heavy drinking, total abstinence and,as at present, drinķng relatively civilised amounts of alcohol.

Through all my life it has been extremely noticeable how much better I have looked, and felt, and how much slimmer I have been, during my periods of abstinence from alcohol.

BravasPatatas · 22/06/2026 18:54

I stopped drinking on MJ because if I was paying £££ for WLI there was no way I was going to sabotage myself by drinking a load of empty calories.

Yeah if you are drinking that much at that age and weight you are asking for trouble. You could end up dead in 10 years…or you could cut right down, do or don’t do the jabs, lose weight, and have another 30 years of drinking in moderation.

AlgaeDreams · 22/06/2026 19:00

If I drank on moujaro I was sick as a pig - and there was no warning. Morning after, feel okay, put anything in stomach - projectile, all over floor and rugs.

I've just started on Wegovy and the desire to drink is way down, but if I'm having a drink in the evening, zero after effects.
At the end of my 1st month I've lost 1 stone.

6 months on Mounjaro, I lost 2 stone, but the side effects were hideous.

I'll try going up to 0.5 on Wegovy but if it gets bad then back down to 0.25.

No desire to drink, but no problem if I fancy one.

Sulgari · 22/06/2026 19:19

Thanks @AlgaeDreams good to know there are options

This is what I’m aiming for

I had a really difficult upbringing, and life, I guess, and drinking has always been an escape. Family thing too. But I’m never drunk or difficult, responsible job, busy single parent, drive a lot so can’t be over limit, but still too much, and it seems the best option for losing weight is to quit drinking so much

i thought the jabs might help with that, I’m driven by dopamine rushes, be it wine, or online shopping or whatever. Fill the void in my cold dark heart 😄

That really resonates with me, I used to "drink like a bastard" (as we used to say) in my much younger years because it helped with my shyness, and also because I really liked how it made me feel and I liked the taste of it. I also messed around with drugs but as with alcohol could take them or leave them. Never touched a drop when pregnant or breastfeeding or indeed when my child was very young, and did not miss it all. Have had periods of poor health and again did not drink becase apart from being unable to stomach it I knew that it does nothing for health and well being. I have just never ever seen or felt any difference between my drinking and non drinking self. I wish I did! would love to feel the benefits that so many others do.

I have so little to cheer me

Family?

NeedyLimeMember · 22/06/2026 20:56

A family member of mine (late 60s) is on Mj. She's always used food for comfort and alcohol to unwind. Since starting the drug 18 months ago, her alcohol intake has increased - I'm guessing as food is no longer a comfort as she can't eat much. Her mood is very low (likely a combination of side effects of the drug, drinking too much, situational factors) and her overall health has declined - a bad hip has massively deteriorated and she's always tired. As a result she's drinking more and more, some family members have distanced themselves.

Divorce and the vicissitudes of life mean no friends

I have a hopeless relationship which doesn’t help

Mounjaro killed my interest in alcohol. It all tasted rank and I got almost immediate hangovers with no buzz. I went from easily being able to drink a bottle of wine to being one of those people who might have a glass every couple of months. To be honest I don't want to go back ever to drinking - I def had a problematic relationship with booze.

I’m the same. Always dopamine seeking. For a while it was exercise which was objectively the best thing to be hooked on. Now I’m home with young kids, without the time or energy to throw myself into exercise (obviously doing it a moderate way is not compelling at all 🙄) so I drink (or I did before I started the jabs). I’m always looking for ways not to be alone with my brain.
