I’m fat. I could get mounjaro

I am fit. I lift weights. Bloods ok so far

I’d like to do the jabs. But don’t want to lose
my joie de vivre

It’s definitely reduced my alcohol intake quite drastically, as I said, I barely drink at home now. Once I get out with my mates I don’t hold back though

2021x · 22/06/2026 08:09

Could you just do a lower dose and take it off more slowly!

Contrarymary30 · 22/06/2026 08:13

I enjoyed my large glass of wine with my evening meal. The WLI has completely put me off alcohol. My sister also on WLI is still enjoying hers ..

Brightonrockkk · 22/06/2026 08:15

It did not effect my drinking in the way I thought it would at all. I stopped having thoughts like 'I would love a glass of wine' after a hard day at work or whatever. However if I was going out planning to drink for a birthday etc, I was still able to drink the same as pre jab. It just stopped me thinking alcohol really unless it was in front of me.

I have so little to cheer me

Alcohol is a depressant. If you feel you have no joie de vivre without alcohol (or without much alcohol) then you have an alcohol problem, which needs solving separately from any considerations around WLI.

EdinaTheConfessor · 22/06/2026 08:16

I’m able to drink on mounjaro, even when I was on 15mg. I just didn’t want to drink as much, which was fine because I didn’t want to I didn’t miss it.

I certainly didn’t lose my joie de vivre, in fact I’m pretty sure I’m happier on mounjaro than off it (maybe that’s down to not being hangry all the time though!)

I’m 56 and 111kgs

I do a lot of weights and cardio,,but feel it’s out of hand

I am unhappy. Drinking makes me feel better

I worry how I’ll be.without it

This was me in September 2024 then I got diagnosed with a heart murmur and I stopped drinking (and smoking) that day. Find that kick up the backside you need to take the leap. Try the jabs, you can always stop, find another routine other than opening a bottle and settling in for the evening. Best wishes to you 💐

I have so little to cheer me

Getting fit and slim and hot is very cheering!
Honestly, if you're scared of losing your taste for booze this is a great chance for you to make changes. Get on mounjaro and to AA or in therapy at the same time, it will change your life. 111kg isnt Joie de Vivre it's life limiting. If you die from Joie de Vivre you won't be very joyful and nor will your loved ones.

Thepeopleversuswork · 22/06/2026 08:20

I am unhappy. Drinking makes me feel better

TBH that's your problem. If you need alcohol to feel better you have unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I'd sort that before you worry about weight loss: the two are totally synergistic and you will struggle to keep the weight off for long if you're drinking heavily.

Not to mention the other problems mentioned here: fatty liver and all the other health issues around drinking.

Mounjaro isn't going to fix the fact you're unhappy.

LaliqueSaltGrinder · 22/06/2026 08:21

I have been on Wegovy about 2 months and don't want to drink any more - but I was not drinking much before starting to be honest as I just haven't fancied it since hitting menopause.

The people I know don’t have any issue with drinking whilst on it.

The issue is that WLD side effects can be pancreas and gall bladder issues. Fairly serious ones.

drinking alcohol puts additional pressure on those organs and increases the chance of those side effects.

i have preordered the tablets so have been doing a little bit of reading. For me it seems sensible to eat a low fat, low/no alcohol diet while on them to reduce the chances of the more severe side effects.

others may decide alcohol is worth the risk and are lucky that they don’t experience any issues.

Without it, you will be FREE
you will be slimmer, healthier, feel much better. We’ve been brainwashed we need it, we don’t.

I’ve been on the pills for 4 months. You don’t lose your enjoyment of food or socialising but you just eat less. I probably enjoy food more now I am savouring every bite.

Same. I just don't enjoy the same kind of things I used to. I always loved healthy fresh meals but I also viewed things like takeaway curry, chocolate bars, crisps etc as treats and now they aren't a draw at all. I still love my food and I still like drinking but not in large quantities.

Did you lose weight too though and are now underweight?

Asking as I would like to try curb my alcohol intake.

Therein lies the problem! I did have a few kgs to loose to be back to what I weighed pre-kids but I’ve done that now and my bmi is 20 so I can’t keep losing weight. I’m going to stop and see if I can continue to not drink now I’ve broken the habit (although I recognise that will be hard). If I struggle I’ll see if a very low dose will enable me to eat enough whilst still suppressing my urge to drink.

I’ve also been learning about naltrexone which is specifically designed to stop people wanting to drink so I might go down that route. I know I can drink less / not drink - I’ve done it for many years. But I was happy then and I’m not now. That’s the problem I really need to solve but for various reasons I can’t see things changing in the very near future.

I know I’ll get judged for lying to get the drugs but my drinking habits were unhealthy and I felt totally desperate and out of control. I recognise so much of the language people use when they talk about how this drug changed their relationship with food (except for me can apply the language to alcohol).

ETA - good luck

I have drank throughout ! Started at 95kg and in 9 months was 61kg… still drink when I feel like it . Have maintained for 2 years on 7.5 mg. You may find you need to go right up to 15 mg to lose

Am really interested in your progress I have been on them for just 3.5 months and gone up to 7.5 but find the weight is not really moving as much as when I was on 5 - very similar start weight to you so did you keep going up each month?

HeidiLite · 22/06/2026 08:38

Mounjaro has put me totally off alcohol. First I just didn't fancy it much, and thought it's also a good way to cut calories. Now I don't seem to be able to even tolerate it, physically. Had 2 small beers a couple of weeks ago, slept terribly and felt shitty the entier day. Tried this weekend with 2 glasses of champagne - same! So looks like my drinking days are over.

Not sad about it though - I look great and don't feel so unhappy any more that I need to drown my sorrows. It's perfectly possible to enjoy life without drinking, I still have plenty of fun. Plus, no hangovers and no regrets about what you may have said or done after one drink too many. Honestly give it a try, it's great!

Sorry, another couple of Qs.
How long did it take you to lose the few kgs?
Also, where did you buy it from and did you have to send a photo to show you were overweight or just write in a few fake stats?

Motnight · 22/06/2026 08:39

Have been on WLI just under 2 years, lost a lot of weight but still have some to lose. I love alcohol. It's certainly helped me cut down on my alcoholic intake, but I probably drank too much before. I don't deny myself any food or drink - it's about a balanced diet for me and making life long health decisions.

TallulahBetty · 22/06/2026 08:43

You sound like an alcoholic.

So clever!

Thank you.

wishingonastar101 · 22/06/2026 09:05

I drank on Wegovy - a bit less (which was good) but I still drank.

AWomanOfWealthAndTaste · 22/06/2026 09:06

Sulgari · 21/06/2026 22:47

I should probably do this

This is where I'd start. If you're drinking because you're unhappy, that needs addressing.

Sartre · 22/06/2026 09:27

AnonymityAnonymity · 21/06/2026 22:27

I stopped drinking for a year and the weight just fell off me.

I started drinking again a couple of months or so ago - one bottle of wine a week - and the weight is creeping back on.

Conclusion: if you cut out the alcohol you probably won't need weight loss jabs.

Edited

Agreed. I got into the habit of drinking way too much wine after going through a hard time, at my worst it was 5-6 bottles of red a week. Lost a stone in a month after quitting.

bronnibro · 22/06/2026 09:28

Bit off topic but does anyone know when the pill version comes out what kind of price it will be, is it going to lower the price? Because I also want to try but can't afford 😂
