I’m fat. I could get mounjaro

I am fit. I lift weights. Bloods ok so far

I’d like to do the jabs. But don’t want to lose
my joie de vivre

I’d probably be addressing why you drink so much and why you’re unhappy. Focus on your mental health and improving that. Nobody should be drinking lots of alcohol but especially not if it’s as a bandaid to make you feel better.

Focus on the alcohol issue and you’ll probably start to see the weight fall off anyways.

I have only my dc. Both are now over 18, one causes by a lot of anxiety and worry, one not

Divorce and the vicissitudes of life mean no friends

I have a hopeless relationship which doesn’t help

Sorry to hear that.

You can work towards improving your situation with friends/relationship though.

I drink less on wegovy but it doesn’t put me off it! Still losing weight at the pace I want to! And drinking wine!

Nn9011 · 22/06/2026 21:28

The mounjaro might help with pausing your urge to drink but I really strongly urge you to line up support for dealing with the stuff that the drinking was allowing you to numb. If you don't do that, you could end up really struggling mentally.
One other caveat is just that some people on mj, take really strong side effects if drinking alcohol on them - v&d for days unfortunately.

Yes. I’ve had lots of therapy and much more able to cope with life and be a nice person and a good mother

Then something else comes along to knock me, I’m kind of responsible due everything, and have had to deal with two very dramatic bereavements, including a murder. I’d been doing well on calorie counting and the gym before that

Despite all this, I’m generally quite chipper, and like to do things and go places; don’t take any medication. Except the drink, and now I’m old I’m getting fat with it!

I’m going to give the jags a go after this thread. Let’s see what happens

For example, today I ate well within my calorie deficit, 142 g of protein (check me!) but then wine would push me right over

I used to drink a couple of bottles of wine a week, maybe 3, bad work day, bottle of wine, and then maybe again sat and sun, and more when socialising.

when I started in the injections I went on an immediate diet. So that meant not drinking, as drinking leads to snacking. And then eating more rh next day as you have a hang over and crave the sugar.

i can drink , but I’d say 3 large glasses of wine is my max when socialising. Then I simply just don’t want any more. I can drink several vodkas, but seldom do, wine is my chosen drink,

I never drink at home any more, it just doesn’t occur to me, I don’t desire it. Like I don’t desire the chocolate or biscuits. It simply doesn’t cross my mind.

my husband always drank a couple of drinks a night, two or three beers, or a couple of glasses of wine. This continued for a few months when he started rhe meds, then he slowly tailed it off. Now he only drinks when socialising. Never at home. He jisy doesn’t want it.

ive noticed a few things, my liver has clearly completely repaired, i dont get hangovers any more. Previously even one glass of wine would disrupt my sleep, now i sleep like a baby and no impact, feel fine the next day.

secondly my skin is much better, i drink 3 litres of water a day on average, my skin and eyes are clear and bright. I look very healthy, thats not just no booze, it’s a clean and healthy diet, the hydration, the exercise.

i know you say you’re fit op. But and i mean this gently are yous sure? If you were on a tread mill and asked to run fast for any length of time could you really do it?

I know I saw a huge difference between my ability to run now and 6 stone ago. Not just in my mobility, the impact on my joints, but my breathing. It’s worth considering.

You need to find a new crux that doesn't have calories.

I also feel so much better when I dont drink but feel that i NEED that large glass of wine every night...

It's trying to break that cycle. Take up something else that occupies your evening. Crochet? Gaming?

Whatalunatic · 22/06/2026 21:50

I am 4 1/2 stone down on mounjaro. I can still go out and drink a few large glasses of wine if want to. A lot of the time I really don't want to. I have way more joie de vive than I've had in years. Don't assume it will make you miserable. Quite the opposite for me.

Yes, objectively I’m fit, I do a very vigorous hobby as well as weights and yoga: combat sport training 😂

But I’m not fat positive and know I need to lose weight

And if I lost six stones I could fight!😄

I’m always really whacked in the evening as my days are so busy. But I do think I should try

Something like crochet keeps your hands busy and you can watch TV and chill at the same time.

Then don’t let your need for booze stop you losing weight , as that would be really sad.

Update: I’ve not started my jag today because of the heat

But I have stuck within my calorie deficit, and done a Bioage scan at my gym and it was ok: came out at 55 with the strength of a 21 year old 😄

Obviously showed I am very fat, but also very strong. So I will start the jag on Friday and release my inner strong woman from the flab

Mounjaro turned me right off alcohol from the very first jab! Couldn't stand the taste. Occasionally I could fancy a few sips of red wine.
