I was a solicitor and now I volunteer as a magistrate, which I am sure you will find issue with or otherwise mock. Oh, I have also, from 2015-2019, volunteered two days a month at a food back in my area. I’m sorry I didn’t sell an organ to donate the proceeds of or whatever other ridiculousness you’ll retort. I could have been a much better person in life, and much worse, but I think I have served a decent function in society.

I’m really sorry their mum died, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have an opinion on cost of education to value of outcome. If you want a different example: Beatrice and Eugenie. Not a straight flush of As in decent subjects…film studies? Art? Drama? Again, if they went to your average comprehensive, fine, but that much privilege and expensive education…come on.

I wouldn’t mock it, but given you evidently have strong prejudices I wouldn’t trust you to make impartial judgements.

Magistrates are in short supply, we need more. There is a massive backlog in court which needs clearing urgently.
In our area good people are too scared to volunteer as there is some belief they might get harassed by petty criminals. And it is unpaid.
Maybe the Government need to professionalise that!
Seems far more relevant than harping on about the Royals.

Believe it or not, if you employ reason, you can be impartial. You apply the law to a situation. It’s actually quite sterile. Separate the man from the music, if you will. Ironically, some posters on here libelling my position as a magistrate haven’t managed to do that.

I hope those such posters keep all their personal opinions firmly away from work and separate church and state - and that’s down to, idk, not being into child labour but working for a company that somewhere in their supply chain uses it.

I have expressed my opinions on bang for the buck on the price of RF education (on grades as well as life education and how to be a decent person eg if your uncle or father is a dodgy character, selling trade secrets, or your mum sells access to the RF, dunno, maybe you should have enough moral fibre to step away from them or at least ‘ave a public word). I don’t think I’ve name called anyone with a different view to me (nor told someone their facts were wrong, when they weren’t, didn’t apologise and then doubled down on judgement, but ok). A llllllot of holier than thou on this thread.

If saying that hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on an education means you dress up as a Nazi or go grifting in the Middle East with your dodgy parents = a waste, I’m guilty as charged.

Do we also celebrate Harry getting a B in his Art exam? The same exam it was alleged Harry cheated (and the whistleblower teacher got paid 45k as awarded by an employment tribunal)? Yes, ALL academic achievement. Doubt that happens down the road at my local failing comp.

Divorce and loss of a parent at an early age can have severe adverse effects on a developing adult brain, however privileged. Add in the constant press, he may have been suffering mentally and then turned to drinking etc like many people with mental health issues and post traumatic stress/grief. Hence why he may have performed well at GCSE relatively speaking and then less well during A levels. During A levels you really need to work hard and be able to concentrate well. Not something many kids with trauma can do.

Yes I dare say, but your criticisms about the royal family are spiteful and gloating. When you loathe an institution as much as you do it’s impossible to be impartial.

The royals generate more money than they cost, and do you really think George could rock up at a state school? There are very few places he will fit in and be safe. Eton makes sense.

I think the first observation is very much open to debate - there are different ways of calculating this, I'm sure.

On the second, no, he couldn't. Because we've created this ridiculous situation where an insanely wealthy and pampered 13 year old genuinely cannot, and cannot be expected to, lead a normal life. That's the problem.

Rude. IF our taxes are paying towards the cost of his education then it's only right it is challenged. After all the royals are wealthy enough to pay for it themselves.

W charges the government (i.e. the taxpayer, i.e. us) £1.5m a year to rent an unusable prison.

More than enough just in that one year to cover the three Etons or equivalent he'll need until he doesn't.

This is what I'm interested in. When you try to find out it is always about tourism. It is a bit like the Brexit discussion - you can't know what it would be like without it. No one is saying that people don't pay to go to royal palaces - but the royals don't show people around. The buildings and artefacts would be interesting to people anyway - as they are in other countries. I mean I didn't expect there to be an emperor when I went to the Colosseum or Athena still hanging around at the Acropolis.

Interestingly the receipts from ticket sales don't go back into the public purse (the one that's funding an unexplained ballooning to £369m in renovation costs for a mausoleum apparently no-one wants) but are used to support yet another royal 'charity' with intriguingly blurred lines about what might constitute a private gift as opposed to an official one and with no definitive inventory on either.
