Absolutely fantastic.

There are far more peacemakers than there are haters.

If the haters try to disrupt our town I will be joining in to drive them straight back out again too.

It is a great way for Labour to see where to place asylum accommodation. They should absolutely listen and put it in Brighton and other keen areas.

Gkei737djdh · 14/06/2026 13:12

And Brighton showed us how to do it.

All with foul mouthed placards doing what hard left thugs love to do. 👏 ✌️

Oh yes the Green party. I can guarantee that misogynistic, anti-semitic party get your vote.

Ah yes the Greens. That’ll help.

I see you. Just ranting about Nigel or whatever.

Direct it at posters who vote Reform.

The ‘whatever’ is misogyny and abuse against women and you’ve just illustrated the Reform and Tory stance- it’s a whatever.

We already have a large intake of asylum seekers and refugees in our town. We have done for over 20 years.

Our town supports and integrates them and therefore it works really well.

There are support groups for refugees and many fundraising events to help them get set up.

We wouldn't have it any other way.

@00K the article you posted is all about trans rights ?

meisafairy · 14/06/2026 13:41

People are actually okay with people in the UK being burnt out their homes, people living in fear, people being attacked etc all because of the colour of their skin???
Disgusting abhorrent views allowed as yet again @mumsnet allows incessant racism.

Skinnysaluki · 14/06/2026 13:48

KatiePricesKnickers · 13/06/2026 19:00

Looks like anyone concerned enough about immigration to demonstrate is a fascist.

It’s going to be hilarious when Reform are in government, because that’s where it’s going.

I don’t think hilarious is the word.
I also don’t think ‘concerned about immigration’ accounts for the vocal racism, street violence and burning people out of their houses. That’s fascism.

southerngirl10 · 14/06/2026 13:48

the uk is called a democratic nation. Racism is awful in any shape or form. But, given the swing to Reform, many people are concerned about the influx of refugees and asylum seekers.

I think yesterday in Brighton showed that a lot of people want refugees and asylum seekers here.

So, I think the only fair way to listen to both sides is to let the people vote. Take names and postcodes.

Then, place them in the areas where most people want them. Build the hotels there and offer them housing there.

It's a win win situation. Areas that don't want them will have less, or none of them. Places like Brighton, where the population will welcome them with open arms can have them there.

That's the only fair way to do it, isn't it?

I agree. It's xenophobia and we won't have it in our town that's for sure.

If they really want government policy to change why don't they take their protest to Whitehall where it belongs?

They won't go to Whitehall because they know they won't be able to turn it into a riot. If they start smashing things up on Whitehall they'll just get cuffed and put in the back of a police van. They cowardly go to small towns looking for conflict and to cause damage property and innocent people as they know local police forces are smaller.

Cowards the lot of them.

It's a good job the peacemakers outnumber them and support the police to drive them back out of town.

OakAndIron · 14/06/2026 13:50

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · 14/06/2026 11:12

I think the big issue here is that people have been trying to have reasonable conversations about this for years but the increasingly loud voices on the left just kept expanding the definition of racism and fascist until it encompassed the reasonable people with perfectly valid concerns and experiences and drowned them out too.

The Prime Minister and many in his cabinet have exacerbated this by personally attacking and vilifying people and tarring everyone on marches or views posted online with the same brush.

Which ironically is what they regularly (and generally wrongly) accuse us of doing to the migrant population.

The public unrest we are now seeing is a direct result of government actions. It will only get worse as the gap between the extreme left thinkers (open borders, no management of men entering our country to increase public safety , and a refusal to address the myriad related issues.

If people on the left genuinely want a reasonable conversation about this, they have to stop screaming ‘racist’ and ‘fascist’ at us like PPs on this thread have done.

I remember a woman from Rochdale being calling "bigoted" by then prime minister, Gordon Brown in 2010.
She asked him lots of questions about local education, national debt etc. But one of the questions she asked was about immigrants, Eastern European specifically and why so many were arriving.

All very valid questions from a woman who had lived in Rochdale her whole life and was noticing changes to the demographic.

The only thing the then prime minister latched onto was the immigration question and then called her bigoted. That's what politicians do, they label us with names like bigots/ racists and then nothing we say is relevant to them. We are shut down.

I am a white middle -aged woman who lives in a low socio-economic area. I've voted Labour and Lib dem my whole life. I agree that we need immigration because it helps to support our systems and economy.

What I do object to is the amount of majority men who are coming into this country to seek asylum(60/40 split in favour of men).
These undocumented men are coming from war zones, they are coming from cultures that clash with our own. They are expected to come in and intergrate but that takes personal impetus and I do not believe that a lot of them come in with any respect of British culture. They are responsible for more crime than is equivalent to their share in the population as stated as fact by the UK migratory observatory.

The government are expecting UK tax payers who have paid into this country and built it to what is their whole lives to be ok with unlimited numbers of asylum seekers, who will typically take more than they will ever give back. And there are a lot of people who typically lean left like me who can see with their own eyes what is happening in this country but being told by politicians and people online that it's not happening.

I am ready for a load of people on this thread to jump on this post and tell me i'm wrong, i'm a racist.
I know I am not a racist, I know what I see and I go to impartial places to gather the facts for myself. I do not view social media for my news and I do not support the likes of Nigel Farage et al.

You mean take a sledgehammer to the backs of police women there instead?

Or wasn’t that the violent protest you had in mind?

She WAS a bigot and the most disastrous thing Gordon Brown ever did was apologise to her for calling her one.

Now there are bigots everywhere emboldened in their bigotry to the point of setting people’s homes on fire.

No platform for racists and fascists, never give an inch. Every time a Labour politician said ‘these are legitimate concerns’ they normalised attitudes that used to be the preserve of the national front and the BNP when I was young and these groups were considered to be completely beyond the norm.

Well done Brighton.
