"Race-based pogrom" and "huge act of self-harm by mindless idiots who are actually only damaging their own futures".

Northern Ireland's First Minister Michelle O'Neill says "groups of masked men" were "burning families out of their homes"

One pastor in north Belfast says black people's homes were targeted, while an MP tells the BBC there was a "race-based pogrom"

The PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher says the violent disorder in Belfast was a "huge act of self-harm by mindless idiots who are actually only damaging their own futures".

I agree with all the quotes. Sick of mindless racist thugs and their 'protests', where they look like they are enjoying themselves while they commit violence and set fire to things.

Homes set on fire in Belfast night of violence as MP says people targeted based on skin colour - follow live

On one street, hundreds of masked men carrying bottles and bricks set bins on fire and shouted "foreigners out", our reporter says.

Where is Farage?

Where is his condemnation of this awful, mindless violence?

So you want to carry on accepting unlimited numbers of men from Sudan, Syria and Afganistan who will not be returned? You don't think polititians and the behaviour of these men has led to communities that previously didn't have integration problems to be up in arms. I hope you have a HMO of these people move in next door to you so you can be so holier than thou when it is you that feels unsafe.

Wishing feelings of danger on posters who don't agree with you is not going to help one bit. It just makes you seem blinkered.

I don’t know. This does not entirely seem like the usual suspects and it seems organized. It worries me a lot. Organization of these events are increasing across the UK. This event in NI looks close to a race riot. That is what looks different, and I would think that has a bit of currency elsewhere in the UK. It won’t be called that - but that’s what it is starting to look like, more and more.

Cailleach1 · 10/06/2026 19:04

@Backedoffhackedoff ’No one needs to carry or show a passport to travel between the uk and Ireland.’

You said this, didn’t you? First of all, the CTA was only ever for those of Irish and British nationality travelling between Ireland and the UK. It was never meant to include others.

Secondly, my experience in the past was that even eligible people usually showed a passport on arriving in Dublin airport from the UK. I certainly did. Well, besides that one time.

I do wonder if the same people who love to bring up George Floyd’s criminal record will acknowledge that the victim has 161 prior convictions

But the rioters last night, well rioting is their main purpose, especially around this time of year. It was just a handy excuse?

Not much happened in the rest of the UK, despite the likes of Robinson agitating and fliers being posted on SM. There was something in Glasgow, I think.

How does border control know who is Irish and/or British nationality? If they're not required to show or carry a passport?

Oh well I read it meaning that if someone comes to the UK, they will more than not, get given refugee status from those countries and therefore are not likely to have any deportation.

Could be read either way I suppose.

Failed asylum seekers are sometimes detained but not usually, its not practical.

QUOTE:
Afghan and Sudanese nationals were the second and third most common nationalities respectively arriving to the UK by small boat in the YE March 2026. However, returns to both countries are currently on hold. Iran (the fourth most common small boat arrival nationality over the same period) and Syria are currently not accepting enforced returns. See Home Office ‘Country returns guides’ for more information on the returns process for individual countries of origin. Despite this, 128 Afghan nationals and 93 Syrian nationals arriving by small boat with no right to be in the UK were returned in the YE March 2026.

As per the quote the Government is not removing anyone to Afganistan or Sudan so it is a certaintly that they will not be removed - unless 1 person is sent to France and another is sent back to us in their place (before the 1st person comes back) under the 1 in 1 out migrant Hokey Kokey.

How many people are returned from the UK?

Yes I thought it wouldnt be long until something like that was brought up.

Not surprised. I think the whole area has a high level of criminality doesnt it?

Im quite happy to bring up George Floyds criminal record, because it was intrinsic into why he was targeted or suspected in the first place.

It doesnt quite explain this for this bloke. Unless theres more to the attack that we know so far.

The community currently up in arms has always had integrations problems. And I wonder if you chose "up in arms" intentionally. The paramilitaries in those communities never decommissioned their weapons after all...

But thank you for your good wishes. I have reservations about all men, irrespective of race. Who are "those people"? And why do you make them sound like Amazon parcels?

No. I do not find reassuring. It seems to have elements which are unusual in terms of who is participating. I would be loathe to say “usual suspects”.

My perception is in the UK that is a cadre of organizations which is using public order to create racial tension. In NI, they have succeeded in a riot. I am not confident that you would not have the same in England. Twenty years ago, I would have been confident there was no concurrency.

This looks organized. And I am not sure the government can handle it

Well, as I said, it was called a catch 22 situation. I proved my eligibility by showing my ticket, which had London as departure. I also showed my driving licence which had my birth place on it, showing I was Irish. Maybe nationality was on it too. I think I still had my old paper licence. Before the new fangled plastic card.

We have had people deported to France and Italy though (where I work),, I wasnt necessarily talking about Sudan or Afghanistan themselves.

A bit like how there always is, but the uneducated jump on the bandwagon at every opportunity

She doesn't care that other people are feel unsafe under diversity is our strength, so she should put her money where her mouth is. I'm sure she will feel fine about her children coming and going past a HMO full of recent arrivals. Diversity is our strength remember.

Threatening me with - gasp - immigrants next door. All because I said racism was the fault of racists. Is rape the fault of women who have lots of sex?

ColadhSamh · 10/06/2026 19:21

Pogroms are not a new phenomenon in Belfast or anywhere else in the North.
Almost 28 years (12th July) since the murder of the young Quinn brothers. 😥

TemperanceWest · 10/06/2026 19:14

Which elements do you mean, Grapthar?

One, an overlap with English extremists with Loyalism which seems to be increasing. Two, a direct call across the sectarian divide to Catholics. Three, explicitly racial. It is. It is beyond usual Loyalist “street” policing

None of this is “normal”. Not that I dismiss what happens in NI, but this is different

I'm not threatening you with anything. I'm pointing out that other people have to live with the consequences of your wokeness and their lives are being made a misery.

Winter2020 · 10/06/2026 19:23

And yes massive amounts of immigration lead to racial tensions as they have in Germany, Sweden and I am sure many other places.
