To use in your Airbnb and on the beach?

Another person who doesn't want to hear your sodding music at the beach. Use earbuds and keep your speaker for the Air bnb.

AImportantMermaid · 08/06/2026 03:29

Speakers on the beach always sound shit - tinny and echoey. Nobody wants to listen to other people’s music, particularly if it’s not to their taste. Imagine going for a nice day at the beach and someone starts pumping out Sheeran on a shitty speaker, or drum and bass when you’re a Mozart fan. It’s why I wear headphones on the beach - it’s unbearable otherwise.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/06/2026 03:34

@MyCloak me too!

You must live up north

What's that supposed to mean?

Bikenutz · 08/06/2026 04:15

This has to be a wind up…

I hear the waves everyday

Why did you ask? You clearly intend to do this and have been dismissive of everyone who has disagreed with you. What a pointless waste of time.

Wow they live among us. It’s a shame to be so uneducated.

Ouch, what a refutation! If we’re into name calling I would propose that with your lack of intellectual challenge you are more Karl Pooper than Karl Popper

SunnyRedSnail · 08/06/2026 07:01

@itssoeasy I feel like this is some sort of reverse where you're now going to tell us that your day at the beach was ruined by some twat playing music loudly.

Speakers on the beach are irritating.

It’s cultural in Australia it’s common to use speakers at the beach- people don’t get annoyed about it.

I’m in Australia and I do not want to hear anyone’s shitty music at the beach, although I’ll make an exception for Xmas day.

Nope I was just asking a question because I got my speaker out while I was home alone yesterday

I feel like the beach would be fine? It’s an open area, not like a train…

No it wouldn’t. Don’t be that person.

Hard no. My local beach is ruined by other people's music in the summer.
I just about get why kids do this, because they haven't learnt societal norms, but adults? No way. It's the height of rudeness.

I am sure there are plenty of people annoyed about it and either sit there and seethe or don't go anywhere near the beach because of the selfish arrogant people that play music.

Let me guess, you are also the twat who plays music from a speaker in the garden for all neighbours to hear

pinkspeakers · 08/06/2026 14:37

I'm not sure why people think that a little bit of music is so much worse than the sound of people talking/laughing/playing/shouting/singing/whistling....

Or are we all supposed to sit in complete silence on the beach?

I also think that people have in mind much more crowded beaches than I do. I honestly think that with a bit of wind and waves that no-one else on an uncrowded beach is going to hear the music from a small portable speaker at all.

DoubleDoubleDown · 08/06/2026 14:38

Wow it's wild, such strong reactions to thought of some music in a public place. I have a funny vision of everyone at my local beach.. chilling,. playing music,. smoking a little doobie when along comes an angry mumsntter grabbing peoples speakers and hurling them in the ocean 🤣🤣

I sometimes hear music from another garden. I really don't mind. We occasionally play music outside. No-one has every complained. Though we do have a fairly large garden and small portable speakers so I doubt anyone can hear much.

I loathe people playing music on trains. I don't even like people talking loudly. But outside in a park/beach/garden I don't understand the objection to some low level noise from a small portable speaker ( as opposed to blaring music)

Anibanani · 08/06/2026 14:42

MrsOni · 07/06/2026 19:36

I don't mind. That's my opinion.

I don't play music, but if there are people on a beach with a speaker, it doesn't bother me. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

And I respect your opinion of course, but I would say that for every person who doesn’t mind, there will be another person who does. The only way to listen to music while respecting the people around you who’ll be disturbed by it, is to use headphones. That way, your music doesn’t impact anyone and people of all opinions are happy.

BauhausOfEliott · 08/06/2026 14:52

itssoeasy · 07/06/2026 18:41

Firstly, it’s not shite.

Secondly, it’s really common for my area? You always get groups down at the beach at the weekend listening to music.

But it completely depends on the beach. A busy resort beach in a big seaside town where you can probably already hear music from beach cafes and stuff anyway and there are groups of people playing frisbee and whatever - fairly normal.

A quiet beach out of town where people go to relax, read and enjoy peaceful natural surroundings - absolutely not normal or OK to play music on a speaker. And of course you're not in danger wearing headphones on a bloody beach. Get a grip.

just some quiet Olivia dean or something

What do you mean 'just'? Why do you think that would somehow be more acceptable than any other music? What part of 'other people don't necessarily like the same music as you' don't you understand? I can't stand the sort of music Olivia Dean makes. Really, really not my thing at all; it really grates on me. You saying 'just some quiet Olivia Dean or something' is like me saying 'just some quiet Nine Inch Nails' or 'it's fine because it's only The Fall'.

Summerbay23 · 07/06/2026 21:24

To be fair I don’t think she’s solo travelling because she’s lonely but probably because she’s a rude, selfish, ever so slightly antisocial person who people don’t particularly want to hang out with.

This is a pretty unreasonable leap!

You’re thinking from a different cultural perspective, people are less uptight and upset about things in Australia- all sorts happen here that people don’t get upset about that would have mumsnet clutching for their pearls in the UK.

And as I have said above, I’m Aussie and, barring Xmas day or Australia Day, I don’t want to hear other peoples music at the beach. I am lucky enough to live near a huge and fairly empty beach, people with speakers inevitably set up near me despite there being miles of empty beach to share! It drives me crazy, just fuck off up the beach a bit so I don’t have to hear your crappy music! Or use headphones, or you know enjoy sitting on a glorious empty beach watching the dolphins!
