So why are you asking? (Almost?) everyone has said don’t do it. You know that the majority will find it really annoying and yet you continue to push the idea that it’s ok and you should feel entitled to do it.

And no, while Olivia Dean isn’t ‘shite’, she’s not everyone’s cup of tea and on the beach, some people would prefer no tea at all, and to enjoy the sounds of the sea, the seagulls and relaxing peace of being out in nature. Of course if you find yourself in a secluded cove with nobody around it’s absolutely fine, but given you seem to think it’s unsafe to have headphones in I don’t think you’ll be veering too far away from the crowds.

Instead of latching on the the yob part of the post above, how about engaging with the suggestion of bone conducting headphones? They would be the perfect answer to this issue.

Here's a thought: maybe you don't have to be listening to music every waking minute. You could take some time to listen to the natural sounds of the sea and be alone with your thoughts, assuming that you have any.

I don't care how nice you think your music is. It's not what anybody else is choosing to listen to in that moment. Please stick to headphones, the speaker inside the apartment and the sound of you ragebait posting on mumsnet for your ambience.

Why would it be more dangerous to wear headphones on a beach than to listen to a speaker? If you're worried that somebody can sneak up on you, then you're definitely too close to other people to use a speaker!

Why wouldn't you wear headphones on a beach. No one else wants to hear your choice of music on the beach. It's one of the many things which passes people off on the beach.

So confused! Sound travels on a beach as well..?! Imagine if everyone brought a speaker to the beach... How would that work..? Don't even understand the problem. Bring speakers just make sure they are small enough to fit in your ears. Feels like you're just asking if it's okay to disturb other people's holidays with your music. No. It isn't. Obviously.

Sounds travel further on a beach too, due to the proximity to water and often beaches are long, straight strands. But by now the OP will be eating pizza, drinking her cocktails and thoroughly pissing off everyone around her by playing (most likely) hyper-commercialised voice-tuned pop music with a rap bridge. I tend to agree with this. But then I'm happy to absorb the atmosphere around me most of the time. I like earwigging other people's conversations, listening to the sound of the sea and seagulls or getting into conversation with strangers/locals. I don't feel the need to be wired for sound or block out everything around me.

I’d say generally beach is fine - as long as it’s not packed. Groups of people on Brighton beach play music all the time. Adds to the atmosphere of the place. If you want to read a book, you just go down to a quieter section of the beach.

Not everyone likes Olivia dean. There’s a big chunk of society that’d rather listen to the rap than her. Point is not everyone likes the same music and wants to listen to same as you.
if you’re worried about safety only wear one earphone. Or get those ones that don’t block out external noise.

No you're not, you're arguing. You asked a question. The question has been answered, many times, adamantly and thoroughly. But you're not listening. You're arguing. I don't know why people do that on here all the time!? They ask a question. Get the answer and then argue against that answer constantly! It's mind boggling. Listening to music, out loud, in public, is antisocial! End of. Other people have paid good money for a relaxing holiday, not to listen to other people's crap taste in music. But that's not what you want to hear, is it? You wanted people to agree with you, but they don't, so you're going to do what you want to do, regardless of anyone else and how our may affect them. Usual selfish behaviour from an ever growing section of society today, unfortunately....
