AIBU this is NOT a moustache

My son (age 13) has been given a Saturday morning detention for having a moustache (not allowed at his school).
I have attached a pic, I don’t think this is a moustache and certainly not enough to shave.
Interested in what everyone thinks before I challenge the school.

I think some days I have a better moustache than that!! 😭😂

Weeellokthen · 02/06/2026 16:46

Wff 😂I would, without the shadow of a doubt challenge this ridiculous decision.

Roomonthe3rdfloor · 02/06/2026 16:46

Nothing there! Saturday morning detention wtf, just don’t send him in.

How can a school dictate what to do with body hair? What if students don’t have money/access to razors etc I’ve never heard such a stupid rule.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 02/06/2026 16:47

That’s absolutely ridiculous! My child has a similar ‘moustache’ and he would not be attending any detentions for it- it definitely cannot qualify as a proper moustache!!

dudsville · 02/06/2026 16:49

How did they even see that on him. Poor kid. The furthest thing from a rebellious act of ever there was one.

fartoomuchtoblerone · 02/06/2026 16:50

Absolute nonsense!

Fifthtimelucky · 02/06/2026 16:50

Whilst I agree it is not much of a moustache, it is certainly more of a moustache than I would want myself!

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/06/2026 16:52

Dear god. Poor kid. I’d be going ballistic at the school, why embarrass a young teen for nothing!

Loulou4022 · 02/06/2026 16:53

I will usually support schools to the hilt however looking at this photo I have more of a tashe than this!! I suppose I can see a bit of hair growing down over his lip but it looks very pale?

SinceYouSaySo · 02/06/2026 16:54

Looks like the attempt at one (bless) but, that being said, how strict is this school?

MyMilchick · 02/06/2026 16:57

I would say no but also, what a stupid rule by the school. What is the reasoning behind that rule?

JasmineTea11 · 02/06/2026 16:58

Wow this is so wrong. Why are schools body shaming children?
Can you imagine schools monitoring girls facial hair? Terrible double standards. Leave the poor lad alone, to do what he wants with his tash!

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2026 16:59

Am I missing something but what if it WERE a moustache? Would that also mean he has to shave his armpits and legs too?

Possiblyfamous · 02/06/2026 17:01

Going ballistic… sigh

SummitWrong · 02/06/2026 17:02

Blanket ban on facial hair? Sounds like potential for discrimination on religious grounds for some boys

(I have more of a moustache than this and its still a week until my next waxing appointment 😬)

MrTiddlesTheCat · 02/06/2026 17:02

I think I'd die on this hill. What right do they have to dictate someone shaves off their natural body hair? Do they also put girls in detention for not shaving their legs? If not, why not? Sex discrimination?

Good point. I know girls who have had moustaches.

Allmarbleslost · 02/06/2026 17:05

I could grow a better moustache than that as a 46 year old woman!! I'd be contacting the school and he certainly wouldn't be doing the detention.

ILikeMondays · 02/06/2026 17:06

Good grief. Yes, definitely challenge them on this one. I think you may turn up and find they agree with you and it was just one very odd member of staff who they need to have a word with.

You beat me to it.

Mine is actually darker!
As a teen I had to use Jolen crème bleach on it because it was so dark, I’m not sure bleached orange was any better though tbh! 😂
Thank God for weekly waxing these days.

School are ridiculous op, really out of order.

Blueuggboots · 02/06/2026 17:08

I would be seeking clarification from the school to find out if this detention was only given for your son not having started shaving yet, or is there more to the story?

x2boys · 02/06/2026 17:08

The school are being riudiculous at 15 my son had a full beard not once waa he told to shave.

Possiblyfamous · 02/06/2026 17:01

Yes, and.. @Possiblyfamous ? This rule is crazy, nothing to do with education and should be called out (never mind the fact, the poor lad doesn’t actually have a ‘tache..)
