Question2288 · 01/06/2026 19:51

DP has just decreed a daily shower as ‘excessive’ and they are absolutely not to have them.

OP posts:
FlowerSticker · 01/06/2026 20:50

Tell him, he's right...he does pay 50%, so he can now pay nothing and move out...

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/06/2026 20:51

He showers 3 times a week ? Thats rank and sure will be smelly in this hot weather

guessing you don’t get that close to him as whiffy and tmi bit sure A bit of knob cheese about 🤮🍆

your teens can and should shower daily

stichguru · 01/06/2026 20:51

He DOES pay half the bills.
So it is half his responsibility to make sure the children have what they need.

Loubissou · 01/06/2026 20:52

I bet this is just the tip of the iceberg.
What else is he controlling about?

Roxy9176 · 01/06/2026 20:53

I shower every day and I think it’s good hygiene. My stepdad used to comment on it which then led to me being worried and not showering enough. As long as they aren’t having really long showers, I don’t see the problem

susiedaisy1912 · 01/06/2026 20:56

Don’t let your kids smell op just because you’re with a weirdo who doesn’t care bout his own personal hygiene

Oh thank god for you lot - genuinely thought I was losing it.

It’s interesting reading some of the comments. You are all spot on: not their dad, if he showers 3 times a week that’s a good week, and it is most definitely the tip of the iceberg.

He thinks he has a say as he pays half the utilities.

Grim. Truly.

WhatNextImScared · 01/06/2026 21:17

Ugh grim - he should be encouraging their independence around hygiene and pleased about this

Pinkflamingo10 · 01/06/2026 21:17

Please tell us you are not staying with a smelly controlling man who thinks it is ok to tell your children that they cannot wash themselves every day in their OWN home

WhatNextImScared · 01/06/2026 21:19

OP, tell us what the iceberg looks like under the waterline…..

And you are with this shower dodging control freak because... ?

You shouldn't be exposing your boys to someone controlling like this.

onethousandandtwo · 01/06/2026 21:22

Showers two or three times a day. 🤔 I bet they've been to elevenerife.

chirrupybird · 01/06/2026 20:43

In the good old days you had a stand up wash at the sink with a flannel every morning. No wonder we are so short of water. Excessive showering/bathing, daily/twice daily, is getting ridiculous and the cost in terms of water usage is scandalous.

Everyone stank of body odour back then. Them days were old, but not good.

Thecomedyclub · 01/06/2026 21:56

FlowerSticker · 01/06/2026 20:48

Are we short of water? 🤔

You could ask people in Kent and Sussex

Purpleturtle45 · 01/06/2026 22:03

My 14 year old showers almost every day and my 12 year old every second day.

Cooshawn · 01/06/2026 22:07

A daily shower isn't excessive for anybody.

VivienneDelacroix · 01/06/2026 22:09

At least once a day for my 15 and 16 year olds.

Why is he paying half the utilities? How many people live in the house and how many are his DC?
He is being very unreasonable to moan about a daily shower, but if you’re on a water meter and they’re spending hours in there then he’s probably right to moan about the cost.

Sixpence39 · 01/06/2026 22:17

A daily wash in their own home is the bare minimum for their wellbeing as teens, not to mention their self esteem. My step mum used to try to restrict my shower access too and it was awful - a choice of being smelly at school or having fights at home. What else is he controlling?

cinderswithahorse · 01/06/2026 22:18

It sounds like such an unhappy home

Teenagers are stinky! They must shower every day, with soap!!!!
Please don't tell us your DP wants sex on his non showering days...... 🤢🤢🤢

FieryA · 01/06/2026 22:19

In what world is showering everyday not an essential? How is that even up for debate, irrespective of how much he contributes to the household? He is totally illogical and clearly, an unhygienic man. He pays half the bills, so he can dictate people's routines? What's next, you can only flush the toilet once a day? He is utterly stupid and I would probably not stay with such a man.
