Really? She lived with this guy and didn't know? She had a camper van parked on the drive and didn't know he stole the money to buy it?

I don't buy it.

How the fuck can a pencil sharpener cost £110?!

No, no, no you're it, London 😂you keep the wee fuhrer. We don't want her back 😤

Can I specifically request that you do not send her to Yorkshire?

There have been rumours around for the best part of a decade that Sturgeon wasn't living with her husband, but with another woman. These are rumours, and I'm not sure how much credence to give them, but it would explain her not knowing. I'm no fan of the SNP, just in case anyone thinks I'm trying to make excuses for Sturgeon.

Sturgeon actually said in her autobiography that she didn’t consider her sexuality to be “binary.”

She was also interviewed and was asked if that meant she could fall in love with a man or a woman. She said “I believe that, yes.”

If the rumours of her not living with her husband for years is true, then it’s possible that wouldn’t have known of her husband’s crimes.

Makes you think, doesn't it. A bit like how the late queen and king charles knew nothing about andrew until it was in the papers. Makes you think, doesn't. We are mushrooms

Sick of hearing it trailed out as an excuse, but it does sound like a mental health issue. Almost as if he wanted to be caught and was looking for an excuse to spend the money on the most ridiculous purchases.

It doesn't surprise me that people don't know what goes on with their nearest and dearest, even if they live under the same roof. If they are busy people with their own lives and money, they aren't going to be particularly interested.

“Oh look darling, someone has given us a £100,000 camper van. Must be an SNP supporter who wants to remain anonymous. I wonder if I need to buy another £1000 coffee maker for it.”

I’m not Scottish but I’m intrigued by this story. It’s so bizarre. I’ve just read that he was/is awarded legal aid. In my opinion, humble as it is, this is so wrong.

May I point you in this direction.. Sturgeon most definitely was wearing the goods.I'm the man with the money Murrell told Shetland jeweller.

I got the Rollie on my arm and I'm pourin' Chandon
And I roll the best weed, 'cause I got it goin' on
😁
edited to clarify that this is not a suggestion of consumption of illegal substances... the Rollie and the Chandon? probably.

ToWhitToWhoo · Yesterday 00:21

We don'r know at this stage. But I think it's likely that at least she had no idea of the severity of it, and that she split up with him becaus she felt shocked and betrayed when it came to light.

There's been many super-injunctions and press embargos over the years. Rumours galore about their very separate personal lives. It'll all come out in the wash I'm sure.

400k is far too much to hide from a partner

Not if he already makes 150k a year and she is travelling all over the place as First Minister etc. etc. and they are not real partners the way most people think of it, it was more business partners?

welshgirl2025 · Yesterday 00:40

of course she knew or at the very least had an inkling that something wasnt right. Dont trust any of the politicians in power today - all in it for themselves

BeanQuisine · Yesterday 01:02

Mr Sturgeon: Ooh fancy that, Nicola, I won 400 thousand quid on the pools!

Mrs Sturgeon: That's nice dear but I'm busy right now, being the president of Scotland...

Mr Sturgeon: I didn't steal it or anythink.

Mrs Sturgeon: 'Course you didn't love, now run along while I decide which chap I'll appoint to which key women's role...

I don't know if it will. Certainly not all of it. The evidence may have been so overwhelming that it would have been ridiculous to plead not guilty, but by entering a plea of guilty at the start of the preliminary hearing Murrell has avoided all the details coming out in court.

Doesn’t this look like she tried to cover it up. Why would she try and stop party workers from reporting dodgy goings on.

Disgusting.

And stop her Party Audit Committee from accessing the accounts they needed to access. Why would you shut down your Audit Committee if you had nothing to hide.

Interesting! If she IS lesbian (or maybe bi?) then that would mean back when Kezia Dugdale and Ruth Davidson were party leaders, all 3 of the major parties were led by lesbians.

Which begs the question- why have a Lavender marriage when Kezia & Ruth didn't need them? Surely SNP voters aren't more socially conservative than Tory and Labour?

She was on a different level to them politically, she was interacting with a global audience to get trade and tourism into Scotland, you have to present a certain way, the house in Spam Valley and the rings on fingers probably convinced most people who were not looking too hard. For sure there are other properties they both own somewhere to lead separate lives in, the Lego house next to loads of neighbours where she always talks to the press is like a prop from Brookside, it is too obviously part of an act IMO.

Goatsarebest · Yesterday 01:25

You have an Audit Committee to prevent the exact thing that has happened here. That is one person in power being able to use funds for their own means without being found out. That's why you have this committee. So she restricted their access to the information they required to such an extent that 3 prominent, experienced and financially literate members of the Committe resigned. This was her doing. Why as leader of a Party that relied on funding for a very clear ideological objective would you close down your Audit Committee. There is only one reason. You didn't want them to find something out.
There was a business in Co. Clare, where I live run, for the benefit of Irish Republican causes, particularly supporting families of IRA prisoners. A manager stole 200k from it. The Provisional IRA 'Audit Committe' weren't stopped by the leadership from 'doing their job' in this case.

Only one left so order it quick. I presume they are sold, or they wouldn't be marketed, but this has got to be up there with the stupidest thing you could buy with your ill gotten gains.

She was investigated, as part of the 5 year long Operation Branchform.

Investigated, Arrested, questioned at length, released without charge, informed in March 2025 she was no longer considered to be of any relevance to the investigation.

But naw, some random mumsnetters know better than Police Scotland who spent 5 years, millions of pounds, thousands of man hours, and turned the family home and SNP HQ upside down looking for evidence.

It would be amusing if it wasn't just prototypical mumsnet and entirely predictable.

I don’t see why anybody would have any faith in Police Scotland.

The fact they took five years is suspicious enough

OvernightBloats · Yesterday 02:37

He chose to steal getting his kicks from buying expensive pencil sharpeners and cruet sets amongst other silly things - what a strange way to get his thrills. It was his way of saying 'fuck you' by spending ridiculous money on every day items.

Very weird man. At least if you are going to steal money, spend it on something exciting!
